The staff are also good, very friendly, attentive and prompt (bearing in mind that we went at 6pm so it was a little early). Unfortunately the reason I'm giving them only two stars is because I wouldn't consider going again. The food was really not very good. The starters were enormous- I had a chicken haryali tikka, which must have been a whole chicken breast. That wasn't bad in itself, but I just didn't like it and it started to make me feel a bit sick. My partner's salmon tikka was better but equally huge and he felt it was a little undercooked. We only managed a very little of the main. My partner said his chicken tikka masala was unlike any one he'd had before and it was like chicken in tomato soup. My Goan monkfish curry (two chillies) was barely spicy and the fish was very chewy and quite unappetising. I can't really recommend this restaurant on the basis of the food. The only thing that made it okay was the staff.

I ordered chicken tikka masala and steamed basmati rice. DISCLAIMER: I am not giving two stars because they did not have soft drinks available for take-away. Or the fact that you had to pay for the side basmati rice! (approx. 4 GBP). No, no, no.... The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the chicken tikka masala was not very impressive. I may not have ordered the "right" dish, but I figured chicken tikka masala can never go wrong. It was just okay. I've definitely had much much better - for both the quality and value. So, mehhhhh.... The ambiance was very nice. No complaints here. Free Appetizer: They give you free pappadeum and yogurt, mint/corinader sauces -- which was quite nice. I would go back again, but only on the company's money. I'm sure their other food has to be better, right? For a restaurant with such a nice ambiance... I hope so..!

We had lamb tikka and complementary poppadoms with chutney to start. Meat was tender and mildly flavorful. For the mains we enjoyed the Hairy Biker chicken special which was super smoky delicious. The okra / ladyfingers Balti style was full of flavor on top pilau rice. The garlic naan was a generous portion but if you have a large group go for the table naan. Gigantic! Prices were reasonable, under £30 for all this food. Enough for 2-3 people. Casual setting and quick service.

I believe there is an upstairs dining room as well, but I haven't been sat up there yet. I have tried a few Indian restaurants since moving to Brum and Imlees is the only one I really like. I've dined here 3 times now and we are always greeted at the door. The restaurant is not licensed so you can take in your own beer/wine/etc. Across the street are two shops in case you get thirsty and forget to bring your own. The menu seems to have a good variety; lots of starters to choose from and a page and a half of mains. The poppadoms always taste fresh. There are 3 different dips served with the poppadoms. There is an onion chutney, a spicy red dip, and a mint dip. I'm still new to Indian food so I'm not the best with my descriptions. For this visit, I tried chicken tikka for a starter and Bagaara chicken for a main. The chicken dishes were both flavourful! The Bagaara was a tad too spicy for me. I usually choose Butter chicken (which is fantastic) but decided to be a bit more adventurous this visit. In between the starter and main you are served sorbet to cleanse the palate. We also had some delicious naan and pilau rice. As far as price, Imlees is quite affordable. It offers take out too if you aren't up for formal dining. Anyway on first impressions it has a very luxurious facade which cajoled me in as though 3 wishes awaited me inside. It is a very slick restaurant and they do a very good job of representing this with their exterior, this impression was only supported by their staff who were incredibly attentive and friendly. Somehow it feels as though Imlees has been part of Moseley for years, it has a very established feeling to it and they seem to have acquired a very loyal customer base despite being one of the newer restaurants on the parade. The food was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. I had to compare their chicken korma with a my catalogue of previously consumed chicken kormas, and I must say I think it was the best one I've had. Imlees provides an impeccable dining experience, so be kind to yourself and go there.

First impressions; it was bigger than expected and nice decor but a little "cold" for my taste. Open plan layout with a few alcoves. They had made a good effort with the decoration of a large table for a Birthday party. I couldn't fault the starters but the chicken in the main courses left a little to be desired. The curry was tasty but the chicken tikka showed no signs of marinading or tandoor skewers, not a big problem except that the chicken was also very dry. The accompanying rice, nan & chips were all standard fare. The wife's desert was off one of those standard overpriced bought in frozen menus that appear everywhere but I asked for and received an excellent banana fritter which wasn't on the menu. It pays to ask. The service was very friendly, attentive and perhaps a fraction quick but that suited us at the time. The bill was very reasonable even taking into account we took our own alcohol Overall just over 3 stars but certainly would have been more if not for the chicken which hopefully was a one off.

We needed to wait for a table so were given a buzzer and were invited to take a seat at the bar. We were quickly seated and shown the food menus after about 10 minutes.....when you don't ave a reservation I think thats pretty good! The food is very much what you would expect from a curry house with a huge list of classic curry dishes and starters. We went for popadoms and dips to start....I then went for chicken pakora and shish kebabs as my main.....I had already eaten before I left the house so was just being greedy at this point....this was my attempt at having something healthier haha. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious and the prices were really reasonable! Both starters were only around £3.50 a plate and were a good size portion! I was going to be super harsh and give this place four stars due to a slightly dirty menu and the fact the tables are pretty close together but can you really mark somewhere down for being busy and popular? The staff here cannot do enough for you and I think its a great touch that the chefs bring out the food! Chosen because it was around the corner from a friend's home, I believe it is not really worth travelling to if you live far. I tried for starters the spiced calamari and Seekh kebabs. The calamari was over cooked, squid incredibly rubbery. The kebabs were fair. All the starters were thrown on the plate, no care given to presentation. The lettuce appeared it had sat around for quite a while also, slightly turning brown around where the knife had cut. The mains were oily, not well spiced at all. The naan breads, this was impressive however, it tasted good and 3 feet tall, see my photos. Would I go again or recommend it to a friend, no. Service wasn't too great. Told our starters would take 10-15 minutes but took 25. Had to ask three times for our drinks. Waiters were accommodating, we did give a 10% tip.

I can't say the what the meal cost in total, but I'd could hazard a guess excluding drinks would be about £500. This including 2 x President's platter at £79.95 each. Very nice, but I'd say overpriced. I was a bit full after the starter and my main: Chicken Jalfrezi (several spellings of this word) lacked both a flavour and spice (see update). It was quite cold when I came to eat it, so it went into the doggy bag for the next day. Same with my wife's. UPDATE: Heated up my main at home, and I have to say it tasted better, it had the spicy heat and flavour. I suppose I could still say it was overpriced, but then you have to take into account its location, sixe of the premises, and staffing levels. Especially for such a large place; it required a lot of staff. Champagne was served, and this doesn't come cheap in restaurants. Although I avoided the Armand de Brignac Brut at £375 per bottle. I think we all had a good time. Not sure it is a place I'd return, although my son has been several times.

A jug of water was on the table throughout and we could order more drinks at anytime, staff will periodically walk past and observe your table to see if anything is needed to be taken away or to give you to opprtunity to ask for something. This is done discreetly, they don't interrupt you. We were largely served by what appeared to be either the manager or head waiter, based on how he directed other staff, makes sense, our group was the largest there, 11 people. He announced an 7-8 minute break before mains would be served, this helped as it gave us a chance to nip for a loo break or for some of our table to go for some "fresh air" outside. Mains were served, I had the Chicken Jalfrazi (sp?!) which was also gorgeous. It and the rice are served seperately and you arrange food onto your plate yourself. Any naans are served on little boxes which house candles for lightining on the table, we had just ordered a few of each type for the table alongside some veggie sides for the table as well, we all took what we wanted. Once mains were done, we were asked if we wanted desert, a popular desert was strongly pushed by the staff serving us, but I opted for vanilla ice cream, which was served with a light topping of chocolate sauce, it was also gorgeous.
