Without question the best laksa in Melbourne, and believe me I've tried a lot. Beef is the personal fave for me, but I've sampled the chicken, fish and vegetable options and all are phenomenal. If you're a fan of eggplant like me, get a hearty extra serving for cheap! Good location close to Melbourne Central and Vic Market, staff are nice and quick and the lovely lady who is often at the counter has my regular order committed to memory. My partner and I visited the restaurant around 5pm, and the floor was not very busy. There was a big sign at the door advertising for more hiring, even there were three waitresses working on the small-sized 10 table floor already. While my partner insisted on ordering the Hainan Chicken, which arrived quickly, my order of "Hawker Laksa" took a significantly longer time to be served. In fact, my partner had already finished her meal by the time my bowl of laksa arrived. Although the restaurant has been in this location for quite some time, I was surprised that the waitresses were not taking orders. Instead, customers were required to approach the counter and place orders with a counter person there, who would then give a number stand to be set on the table. The Hainan chicken was okay, yet the fine chopped ginger was an additional $1 charge? On the other hand, my laksa was delicious and I could tell it was made with the authentic ingredients of that Hawker Street. While the restaurant was not very busy at the time, I found it frustrating that my partner and I were not served at the same time, and the wait for my food was quite long. Given this, it would have been nice for the staff to provide a clearer explanation for the delay. However, despite the wait, I must say that the laksa was well worth it. As well as the laksa, there are plenty of other options on the menu at this very popular restaurant. We tried the Laksa House Special Laksa and the Classic Har Mee (prawn noodles) with chicken and shrimp. It was delicious - the stock was rich and full of flavour and they did not skimp on the ingredients - plenty of chicken, shrimp, tofu puffs, egg etc. Even though it was busy our food came out very quickly and it was really good value for money. read more

1 star for prices! Very reasonable and affordable. Average prices were about $10 AU. 1 star for portion size. Quite large, enough for my partner and I. 1 star for the flavors. I tried it twice during our visit to Melbourne. The tom yum noodle soup was delicious! It was just the right amount of spicy and sour. Definitely cured my headache from the night before. The house laksa was also good, but it had more of a curry flavor than I'd like. However, there was more than enough seafood to make up for it! -1 star for the service. Although we only grabbed takeout on both occasions, the staff seemed quite irritated with us. I would've thought they'd be glad that they didn't have to wait on us in the restaurant. Does it really hurt that much to smile at your customers? Hmmmm. -1 star for the establishment being cash only. Maybe if they advertised that on their door, that might help patrons be more prepared. The day before we left Melbourne, we discovered this place. We ate there for lunch and ordered theirs chicken laksa and just love Unami flavor of the broth. We came back for dinner and ordered fish laksa I just love it so much. I also had chendol and live it also. Wish I could eat more. read more

LOVED the combination curry laksa here ($9.80), it was especially comforting to have on a freezing cold Spring evening. The soup was sooooo satisfying, it was fragrant, not too thick, and all the spices were in perfect harmony with each other. The noodles were plentiful too! I chose the combination instead of the House special, because this one came with mussels! Well, one mussel, but it was a very plump and delicious mussel! The tofu puffs were soft and spongey, they soaked up all the laksa flavours. Grilled eggplant is also included in the dish, wondering if they'd let me order extra eggplant next time as it's' so damn good! I'll be back to try their Hainanese chicken rice and everything else on their menu. Why not, it's amazing AND most of their dishes are just under $10 (which is sadly becoming a rare combination these days) so enjoy while it's around :) read more

This is my favorite Laksa Place in the CBD. Always good value and so delicious. I think I've tried the majority of the menu. My must have is the Hawker Laksa, comes with fried egg, tofu puffs, prawns, sambal eggplant, fishcake and 2 fried chicken drumsticks. Makes my tummy happy. read more

Look, food was great. It service was terrible. Up on going up to he counter to order I asked if they do Vegetarian spring rolls waitress said yes. The waitress did have a hard time understanding English so I had to repeat a few words to her but always kept a smile, she felt very irritated for some reason.. I then asked for spring rolls as starters and two chicken Laksa as mains. Moments later, we received fish cakes from another waitress and I asked what this is and said it is wrong and not what we ordered, she returned the plate. The waitress that took my order originally came, holding the receipt that says fish cakes.. I explained that it is wrong and we asked for spring rolls not fish cakes. As we don't eat fish.. Ever since moving here I always noticed a shop under renovation whenever i pass by Elizabeth St via tram, (yes i know i'm weird who would noticed a shop that its closed) but one day, this permanently closed shop burst into life. Although it was quite awhile before i tried it. So anyway the deal breaker. Food is cheap, there is almost nothing above $15, plus the food is authentic (according to my Malaysian friend) however although they are a laksa house it seems like they make better fried chicken rice than laksa :/ so be sure to order some fried chicken with the sweet smelling yellow rice. Small hole in the wall kind of place. I ordered deep fried lobster balls and seafood laksa noodle soup. Not sure if I came on an off day, but my seafood noodle arrived lukewarm and the one mussel I had was still thawing in my soup. Bustling eatery with hearty, authentic Malaysian food. A great "cheap and cheerful" place, the staff is friendly, but the service is mostly not table service (for meals under $15, I think that is ok!) The menu is extensive with a variety of rice, noodles, soup, curry dishes. There are a few noodle varieties that are not often available in Melbourne. Being a noodle nut, this is right up my alley. Between the 4 of us we got a variety of dishes. The Tom yum fish cakes were a good sized serving with 6 pieces for $6.90. Of course the laksa house special curry laksa - the soup is intensely spicy, fragrant and coconuty. A little thick for my personal preference but delicious none the less. Chilli mee pok - delicious flat noodles without soup, with a minced pork in shallot oil, with the option of chilli oil. Ban mee - the delightfully thick egg noodles, in a piping hot clay pot with a curry laksa soup - this is the noodle that will keep me coming back! Bak Kut teh - a traditional pork herbal soup with pork pieces, pork balls and tofu. Had such a hankering for this after drooling over the MLH menu, opted for the pork hock version. It was exactly what I felt like on a cold wintery Melbourne evening! Service wise - you get your own water, cutlery etc, and order and pay at the counter. The Bak Kut Teh, Laksa and Pork BBQ were absolutely scrumptious. This is what I call authentic Malaysia and Singapore cuisine. The hot Teh (milk tea) and Gula Melaka flavor special drink were really great. This is the taste that brings out my childhood memories. Nice food, but beware - apparently (and I say that deliberately) this establishment is "cash only". So I went down the street to an ATM only to later witness another customer pay with a credit or debit card. The cashier held the terminal for him to use. Clear as day. Food was served within a minute so I was concerned but it was delicious. steaming hot Spicy Curry with chicken and eggplant.
