Good Malaysian food, if you love Bak Kut Teh 肉骨茶。Selection is quite limited...in my personal opinion. We tried dry version, simply delicious.

Mother Hen Soup

Had been visiting this place for some old fashion bak kut teh even before the rebrand. Aunty Franklee opened for business with a fresh look while still serve a great selection of Malaysian dishes. This time I tried their Mother Hen Soup and Borneo Milk Tea. The Mother Hen Soup comes with a bowl of multigrain rice and half a tea egg. Perfect with the huge bowl of chicken and mushroom soup. The broth is a winner and it really does feel like home cooking.

Woohooooo, Eureka this place is still open, we were the last customers. As we walked in two Ceiling fans were working hard, I don't think the AC was on, it was HOT, steamy, the room is filled with South East Asian aromas and it's not even a 40 degree Melbourne day, lots of goodness has been cooked and served before us, humidity, smells & sweats, reminiscence of a Hawker street somewhere in KL, Kuala Lumpur. I can feel my sweat from the BoxFit session has a new flavours now. From the Street level, this place is nothing fancy, the bright Green Jade colour is the only attractive feature about it, BUT what they are serving are incredible for what they are charging, they could and should charge more. Started with the CKT (Malaysian and Singaporean loves to abbreviate words) or Char Kwee Tiaw, Fried Rice Noodles, then Char Hor Fun, Combination Fried Rice Noodles with Egg Gravy sauce and lastly some Curry Puffs or Samosa (Indian) or Pastel (Indonesian). This pastry varied inside, but has common ingredients; Potatoes, Curry and Chilly. It was the right decision, not sure whether my muffin top would agree, worry about that later. In under than 5 minutes after we ordered, those goodness were flying onto our table .... so QUICK .... they served the best first ..... CKT - Char Kwee Tiaw, easy 8.5/10 ....VERY strong aroma of the Pork Crackling and Chinese Sausages, BIG Prawns just needs that burnt-wok taste, makes it a little drier .... That was a joy for around $12 Char Hor Fun 7/10, not quite there, rice noodles needs to be fried more but the Egg Gravy Sauce was tasty, it can be better and traces of the egg yolks still prominent, that tasty runny eggs .... about $12 Curry Puffs easily 8/10, fried to perfection, balanced ingredients and served hot, very important in my opinion, the aromatic flavours lingers as you bite into it, $5,50 for three. All these flavours plus Sambal & Chillies makes my palate sings. Life doesn't get much better than this after a long long day. Simplistic Joy and no drugs needed, just some CKT. A decade ago or so we might not be able to get these kind of offerings, so I must thank & commend the Chef and proprietor of the business for bringing that Hawkers' spirit and providing these goodness for us to enjoy.

Good location close to Melbourne Central and Vic Market, staff are nice and quick and the lovely lady who is often at the counter has my regular order committed to memory. While my partner insisted on ordering the Hainan Chicken, which arrived quickly, my order of "Hawker Laksa" took a significantly longer time to be served. In fact, my partner had already finished her meal by the time my bowl of laksa arrived. Although the restaurant has been in this location for quite some time, I was surprised that the waitresses were not taking orders. Instead, customers were required to approach the counter and place orders with a counter person there, who would then give a number stand to be set on the table. The Hainan chicken was okay, yet the fine chopped ginger was an additional $1 charge? On the other hand, my laksa was delicious and I could tell it was made with the authentic ingredients of that Hawker Street. While the restaurant was not very busy at the time, I found it frustrating that my partner and I were not served at the same time, and the wait for my food was quite long. Given this, it would have been nice for the staff to provide a clearer explanation for the delay. However, despite the wait, I must say that the laksa was well worth it. In fact, I would recommend trying the laksa despite the long wait.

BBQ pork laksa had a nice broth, but the pork was tough and not very flavourful. The Hokkien noodle had a decent sauce. The tom yum fried rice was tasty but a little salty. Nice ingredients. The grass jelly iced tea had little flavour aside from brown sugar. The so-called chicken satay wasn't even satay. It was fried chicken on skewers, flavored with turmeric. It's a bit like the chef is doing rough analogies of Malaysian dishes. That said, the place seems to be doing quite well and has been around for years. Good place for cheap eats but don't go here for an authentic Malaysian food experience.

A friend had recommended this place and so four of us went out here for dinner on a Friday night. Service is quick. Menu is expansive with a large range of appetisers, a few noodle dishes, curries, laksas, and even Thai food (so bizarre). Meals are for person only and not for sharing. We ordered the following: 1. Traditional curry laksa which arrived with one mussel (literally), some prawns, two pieces of white fish, and some tofu in an average sized bowl. The laksa was served at room temperature. It was yellow in colour, not super creamy or thick (so lacked the creaminess and flavour of coconut milk) and tasted like turmeric only. Not spicy at all. Even the extra sambal I asked for didn't help with the flavour. It lacked flavour. 2. Nasi lemak with beef rendang - the beef rendang tasted exactly like the chicken curry that came with the sliced up cold roti canai. My friend couldn't even tell if he was eating beef or chicken. Fail. 3. Char po hee - goeey looking rice noodles covered in an eggy slime and hiding mushrooms underneath tasted like nothing. Just slimey. We left most of it behind. Cash only too. Very disappointing. Restaurant is clean. Service is quick because the food is not fresh and served at room temperature or cold.
