I brought my dog to Lakeland, on emergency basis, Dr. Ericka, did what I thought was a wonderful job diagnosing her medical issues and treated Abby. Abby was incredibly sick after ingesting chicken bones and the remains of the very old chicken that a bear had drug out of our garbage, and the Dr. got us in quickly that morning and treated my dog. This could have been a very bad situation if her staff hadn' listened and both she and the Dr. hadn't been kind enough to move us up immediately. I felt there was serious professionalism on everyone's part and was very appreciative when we left with antibiotics and medications and thorough instructions from the Dr. on how to treat Abby to make sure that we didn't end up with a serious flareup happening. I want to send a huge Thank You to everyone at the front desk, the doctors assistant's, and Dr. Ericka for probably saving my dog!! read more

Just wants money. Unnecessarily put my dog under for her to shave around a hot spot. The benefit of anesthesia must always outweigh the risks. This vet only cares about $$$, not the health of your pet. Avoid at all costs. read more

I don't usually write reviews; However, My Vet Dr. Kelly is the most caring and compassionate veterinarian I have ever seen in all of my 40 years as a dog owner. I have three German Shepherds, two young females and a elderly male that's 10. My first experience with Dr' Kelly was with my youngest "Lucy" which at the time was a puppy and at the visit Lucy shook terribly from fear. Dr. Kelly took almost an hour on the floor with treats and lots of love to win that dog over. I was very impressed to say the least! I am a very difficult dog parent and have tried several other vets in the area. 4 other vets to be exact. She is far and away the Vet that I trust for all of my dog care. My feeling is that she does this with all of her clients. She along with her Vet Tech assistant Melissa are the best. They offer Quality care and listen to my concerns then give options. No this Vet isn't the cheapest I've ever seen, but in my opinion my money is well spent here. My opinion, go here, See her, she cares. Pete C. read more

worse vet experience I've ever had going to Lakeland vet. sent home with food for cat and a $800 bill, no medication or solution to the problem. took cat to another vet the next day and issues were taken care of. Lakeland even accused the other vet of malpractice when I requested a refund of part of what I paid. they don't deserve any business read more

Well if you want a vet to go to that just wants your money and doesn't care the about the well being of your animal, this is the place for you. They will over charge you not give the treatment your pet deserves. I warn you if you love your pet you will go some where else. read more

I wouldn't recommend this clinic to my worse enemy. Had to get my cat put to sleep to get him groomed. Brought him home and he wasn't breathing right and it was like his brain was fried. Brought him back in and his chest was so full of liquid that it was either spend an unknown amount of money on if and maybe or put my buddy down. I was devastated and paid more money to stop his suffering. So if you like spending alot of money for bad work this is the place for you! read more

Was fairly disappointed in the after-hours/emergency care, poor medication directions (that even other Vets looked at the notes and couldn't make heads or tails of either) and a general sense of "they're doing us a favor" made this expensive trip a regret and ineffective. Didn't offer any effective palliative care, and I found better emergency services in Brainerd/Baxter at the Animal Care Center, located behind Home Depot. You can reach them at (218) 822-6000. If you are currently more North or East of Brainerd/Baxter, I recommend the Crosslake Vet Hostpital - they can be reached at (218) 692-4400. I regret taking my pet to them in an emergency situation, and I am writing this so you don't end up disappointed as well. if you can, go someplace else. In a pinch, I hope that they are better with you and yours then they were with me and my pet. read more

So figured I'd start off with the good - Friendly Staff, Good Hours, Boarding Facility, Clean Building. Then the Bad - Let me start off by saying everybody makes mistakes, myself included so I usually don't go out of my way to post a negative review until the establishment in question has had a chance to make the situation rite or has offered up poor service routinely, in this case I have a couple examples I'd like to share to help others make the best decision for their beloved animal. Most recently brought my Alaskan Malamute in for treatment for a reoccurring ear infection, 3 instances of the infection reoccurring all treated at this facility. 1st instance was an examination, drops, and send me on my way ( seems okay ) 2nd instance a few weeks later, infection back, they knocked him out and gave me some strong antibiotics, should be good. 3rd instance infection had come back ( found out later was never cured ) but anyway was given a brief exam and told it was likely an allergy and drops, follow up with us in a week. By Friday - 3 days prior to the follow up, my poor doggo was screaming in pain, shaking his head, was walking in circles poor balance and coordination, woke me up 3-4 times that night, I was terrified. First thing Saturday morning, rushed him off to the Garrison animal hospital, who took me in right away thankfully, they discovered upon examination and shaving the ear, that the infection was the result of an ingrown hair which was causing the repeated infection ( one would have thought this should have been discovered the 2nd time when they had him under full sedation or maybe the 3rd time ) anyway - the Garrison animal hospital and super star Dr. Katie also pointed out the infection was pretty advanced and didn't feel the treatment of just drops would be effective to help him get over it, let alone the ingrown hair issue being overlooked, anyway so that was my experience. The resolution ? I called and asked for my money back from the 3rd treatment, I was given a 60 dollar refund of the $160.00 I originally paid, figured it wasn't worth further pursuit, mistakes happen I get it, but I sorta feel this situation was handled poorly and I am glad the Garrison hospital was able to come through for me before my poor doggo lost his hearing or worse. read more

We were visiting the area with a new rescue dog I initially brought in on a Thursday to ensure there was not a problem with her breathing. I was very happy with Dr. Emily's exam and fee charged (though I was surprised by their policy to charge for even making the appointment). Anyway, the problem came back overnight on Friday so I called to get her back in on Saturday morning and discovered their concept of Animal Hospital is NOT 24/7 availability, but that once warranted, and for a minimum charge of $450.00, they will schedule time with a vet. I was also very frustrated by the fact that the receptionist confirmed all of my contact information and told me t for a nurse. After holding for more than 30 minutes I called back and asked the receptionist to have the nurse call me when they were able but she said that was not possible and that I would have just have to hold? Finally, after another 30+ minutes on hold, a "nurse" answered and explained the $450.00 price to be seen, and because the problem subsided again and we could not afford that cost I did not make the appointment. I did talk further with the "nurse" as I had never heard of a nurse in a vet practice and discovered she was indeed a vet tech who feels that the training/education she has received is equivalent to that of a registered nurse and so has adopted the title. I don't understand exactly if this is a trend or movement, but was very put off by her attitude and overall responsiveness to my situation. She did text a list of other 24/7 providers throughout the state which I did not use as the issue did not reappear thankfully. I would not recommend or return to the Lakeland Veterinary Hospital based on this experience. read more

I brought my cat in two days in a row on emergency because he collapsed and was acting lethargic. First day was sent home with cat food and told he showed signs of kidney disease and diabetes. Second day with diuretics and antibiotics and told he had fluid on his lungs. No surgery was offered and was told if I wanted a ekg or oxygen therapy to go to the cities. Was told they don't have the staff to provide overnight care. Was not advised of how serious the condition was. Felt like I was pushed out. My boy died new years eve. If your pet is having an emergency do not take them here. This is more like a clinic than a hospital. read more

We are only up here for the summers, and previously went to a different animal hospital (for 4 summers) for our (3) cat's prescriptions. Every time I went in there, I had to explain who I was. I went to LVH when the other place was going to make me wait 2 weeks for an appointment. When I brought my cat in to LVH, I was greeted BY NAME. The tech, Kathy, listened, responded to and wrote down everything I said. Dr. Kelly was the kindest, gentlest vet to ever handle any of my pets, and she did a wonderful, thorough job with diagnosis and treatment. After 4 years of feeling like an outsider and neglected, it's nice to feel welcomed and secure that my pets are being treated by someone extremely knowledgeable and who really cares. read more

I'm disappointed that I have to give one star because if I could go negative, I would. Lakeland Vet is very accommodating in terms of time, but that is the only positive I have. They up charge EVERYTHING on all their services and micro charge by dissecting their process and creating individual charges for one procedure. I brought my dog in for a urinalysis, they charged $30+ for the urinalysis and the cystocentesis-$70 which is basically how they collect the urine. On top of that they tried to talk me into doing X-rays, which was an additional $100, for precautionary reasons. They then prescribed a medication that was not affective and then called to inform I would have to spend an additional $15 on a different medication. This was just one of a few very disappointing encounters with this business. I suppose if you have a lot of money and treat your animal as a child this clinic would make sense. For me, my children are my children and my dog and is my dog, I don't have health insurance for my dog and not sure if that even exists but I don't care to spend $350+ on every visit to the vet. I have currently transferred to a different vet in staples that does the exact same work for half the price. read more

Caring, courteous, competent. My dog needed a doctor to treat an ongoing health condition while we were traveling in the Brainerd area. I'm glad I found Lakeland. They were willing to consult with my vet in Illinois to make sure he received the proper treatment, and it was less expensive than IL too. During my visit I saw many dogs coming and going from the kennel area, so it seems a popular choice for boarding as well. read more
