This was cremation only...no service, no announcement in local paper. Just felt like we could have been shown a little more of a caring attitude. Tragically, her son died 6 weeks later. Completely different funeral home and experience. Could not and still do not understand the cost for her cremation.

Calling hours before the mass of burial gave us a chance to connect with my mom's circle of friends. The instructions for the pallbearers were clear and the process of bringing her coffin into the church for the mass and then taking her in the procession to the Pleasant Grove cemetery all went smoothly. Parting with a parent is always difficult but we felt cared for in a respectful way. They were also helpful with logistical legwork which reduced stress at a time when we really wanted to focus on mom.

Typically funeral homes are not something you shop around or compare to much, but we found ourselves facing a terminal diagnosis with a few months to prepare. Knowing nothing about funeral home I just kinda stopped in on one. After 3 trips and lots of bad information, bad care, and not returned calls I said this is not how it is supposed to be. I sought out recommendations from others (which I should have done first with this type of service) and Zirbel came highly recommended. I talked to them and instantly knew this is how it is supposed to be. Caring, receptive, quick to answer questions. We were able to plan just want we wanted and they did an incredible job. Karen was extreamly wonderful and we could not have asked for better service. The Greensprings folks also met us at their parking area, and provided transportation to and from the gravesite for those of us who needed mobility support. All of the people we've interacted with have given us the impression that they care deeply about our planet and are being careful to preserve the natural ecosystem with plantings as well as with their rules about burial shrouds and coffin materials and so on. When we returned home from the burial, I had the impression we'd been on a hike in the hills - a very different vibe from the usual somewhat depressing and formal funerals I'd seen in movies, and a feeling more like a beginning than an ending. The whole experience was perfect for our family and has left me feeling confident that Mom is safe in the arms of the earth, exactly where she wanted to be, surrounded by wildlife and flowers and trees.

Central New York Cremation Service opened several months before Ithaca closed and is located just 15 miles from the Ithaca, They serve all of Central New York and do not charge any extra mileage fees for people who pass in Sayre, PA for example, in fact there are no hidden fees, straight forward, honest, and simple is how we do it. Total price right now is $1350 including the crematory fee, but it has lowered twice since we opened due to the increase in families using the service. We are a people driven business not a profit driven business. Also unlike how Ithaca Cremation Operated, Central New York does work with insurance companies and pre plan trusts.

Please be advised if the death occurs in the Pennsylvania hospitals ( usually in Sayre) extra fees (above the cost of transport) will be incurred if transport to New York State for cremation is requested.
