On trails I've seen birds of all different colors, eagle, deer, rabbits, fox, snakes, toads, butterflies, and owls. All wildlife seen are amazing! The trails are gravel and well maintained. There are two ways to access the beach and you are able to walk the length of it, swim, sit ect. Two Rentable campsites and 1 rentable pavilion with heat, water and bathrooms. There is also a separate restroom near the lookout tower. Trails I break down to four. A more open air one that can get hot if walking in the summer. A wooded one that is sheltered by trees, keeping you cooler. The beach trail and a smaller grass trail where you are likely to see butterflies and deer.

Mentor Marsh is located close to Headlands Beach so you can get here easily from there. Around here it's much quieter than at the beach. This attracts mosquitos so use bug spray. Entrance is hard to find. It has a parking lot next to the nature center, which is an old house. There's a few trails to choose from. Kerven Trail takes you around the marsh area. There's a large open area once you get out of the woods. If it has rained recently, this place is pretty damp. There also will be lots of mosquitos. It's a marsh after all. The trails are kept pretty clean and clear. It overall is a nice place when you want to get away from the beach. It's larger than it looks. The trails will also take you to the beach if you feel like going all that way.

The baseball fields are nice and well maintained. One problem they need to fix that hasn't been fixed in decades is the lack of bathrooms close to the playground and ball fields. There's a bathroom that only kind of smells. Close by is the lighthouse. It has a small museum. This area would seem to attract many tourists. It however doesn't seem that crowded. Most people are on the beach but but that many though. It seems cleaner than many beaches. The sand doesn't have a lot of cigarette butts and litter. It's kept clean pretty good. The water is kind of murky but it's apparently safe. Along with the beach is the park. There's some great views. It seems like a safe area. There's usually someone on patrol. It has a public bathroom. It doesn't reek of piss. They charge for parking but you can park for free on a side street.

There are several entrance to walk out on the beach with restrooms on the edge. To walk to the beach you go through the sand dunes so you feel like you are on a true vacation. The beach is very big. Lots of cool rocks and beach glass to look for. We saw people wind surfing, jet sking and swimming. The water was rougher than we are used to but the kids had life jackets so no issues. Suggest wear good water shoes because there are lots of rocks in the sand.

With an abundance of activities and opportunities. It skirts Lake Erie with extensive walking paths. It also has a marvelous peer with provision for sitting and enjoying the water. There is a baseball field, extensive open lawn, pavilions, clean bathrooms, and a concession stand. The center of the park has a marvelous facility for parties of all kinds. Plus many public events. My favorite being the second Sunday of the month when they have ballroom dancing (with lessons for beginners) in a 5,000 sq. ft room. It is absolutely extraordinary! You definitely need to come see for yourself... and bring your dancing shoes.
