Such a beautiful place, especially now in the fall. I only had a VERY quick visit, but I can tell that there are TONS of things to do here, and just a walk on the beach alone worked WONDERS for my road trip weary soul. Ohio has recently won awards for its state parks, and this is yet another jewel in its crown!! Beach review only, We live about 15min from GOTL State Park. This is our go to beach a bunch of times during the summer. Its not very crowded and there are tons of things to do around the area after the beach. Lets start with cons: -Beach is rocky towards the water, sand is nicer the further back you sit. If youre looking for Fairport Harbor raked beach sand, this is not for you. -Water is rocky for about 20' or so out, then turns into sand. -Foot wash was not working, however it has worked in the past. -No showers, but do offer a changing area. -No breakwall, so occasional driftwood shows up, this could be a good thing or bad thing depending how you view it The Pros -Never crowded like the other beaches around -Water is cleaner than other beaches around -Bike and walkable, and a grassy area up top for family parties -Sand walkway to help the Dads wheeling a wagon full of kid toys, chairs, umbrelllas, while the wife holds her stanley cup in one hand and her beach tote in the other. -5min from GOTL -Everyone seems to follow the rules, never an issue there. Great spot with tons of stuff to do around the area. Its like a mini vacation! read more

We had a great time here. My group came only for the beach front, and we had my dog, so stuck to the edges. There are sunny and shady areas, with a couple of access points from the parking lot. The restroom was decent. There are picnic tables and paved parking. The parking lot is not very large, so it does fill up, and ditto the shade, so if you're pasty white, get in early to stake out your spot! You sun babies do whatever you want. There was, if not a food truck, and stand set up selling hot dogs, lemonade, and a couple of other snacks. We brought in lunch, but the prices were decent and they seemed pretty well stocked. There are places for water sports, you can swim, and space to enjoy the sun. It's a beach in Ohio, so I'm sure there's some negative Nellies and Neds who want to compare it to Hawaii, which it is not, but for Ohio, and easy to access, I'd say it's pretty great. read more

The park is super nice and has one resort inside the park, as well as the marina. Also some cottage. Sit on the bench watch the lake, so peaceful. You could forget everything in your mind and just the lake.. read more

Breakwater beach is great! There are also some trails in walking distance of the beach. We did the purple trail, which was a muddy trail through the marsh, and then set up on the beach for the rest of the day. The only downsides I want to point out, the trail was muddy and full of mosquitos (but its in a marsh so is that really a knock against it or a knock against your better judgement?) & the bathrooms were not kept up on AT ALL. Toilet paper everywhere, empty soda bottles littered on the floor. We went on the fourth of July and got there at noon, and the bathrooms looked like this. So this tells me no one cleaned up from the day before...or the weekend before. In the park maintenance's defense, Ohio's been 90+ degrees for more than a week... The beach is great. It's a lot smaller than Mentor Headlands if you're used to that beach, however it is a very nice beach. Wear flip flops into the water or at least til you get to the water because the sand is HOT and there are many big rocks in the water (they're smooth, but they're a little difficult to navigate). The farther you get from the shore, however, the less rocks there are, and it gets deep pretty quick. No one seemed to be enforcing any rules at this beach either, so just watch out for yourself. For one, the buoy was almost on shore, obviously not where it was supposed to be, and boats & jetskis were coming way to close to swimmers . In all, this beach was fantastic for a 90 degree day and the cooling waters of Lake Erie were the absolute perfect way to refresh after baking in the sun. I would return of course, even though I have to drive and hour and twenty minutes to get here! read more

Upsides: the bathhouse was relatively clean, spacious, and has a nice changing area. On the day we went, the wind was calm and there was no noticeable smell to the place. There was a rental agency available with kayaks and paddle-boards if you are into that. Downsides: This is the least pleasant stretch of beach that I've ever been to. The shoreline is all hard rocks and slippery footing. Without a pair of water shoes, it is nearly impossible to walk the shoreline. I couldn't even comfortably stand in the surf. On top of that, the water was the dirtiest I've ever seen anywhere. You've got trash, dirt, and algae all pooled together in a relatively stagnant pool along the coast. I hobbled around in both directions trying to find a better stretch than where we started and couldn't find anything. It was a little bit better late in the afternoon after boat traffic had increased and the water got moving, but it was still not something I'd let my 4-year-old play in. read more

This is my favorite campgrounds and cabins. Cant beat that view, beautiful sunsets! Just make sure to reserve in February or March if you want a cabin in the summer! For $100 a night you can't beat it! read more

The park itself is very nice. The campgrounds are fairly spacious and have quite a bit of trees and shade. The downside to the campground is the bathroom situation. There are two loops to the campground and each loop only has one bathroom. Each bathroom only has two stalls and no showers. You have to drive to the showers which are in between the two loops. There are only three shower stalls for each male and female. With over 100 campsites that is not enough to take care of everybody and on top of that they came to clean the bathroom at 8 o'clock in the morning when everyone was trying to use the bathroom. read more

I did like the beach - not huge and not too crowded for midweek. Not sure what a weekend would look like? HIGHLY recommend water shoes, as many rocks while getting in the water. My nieces where glad that they had them. Lots of rocks on the beach too. But that is just how it is along this part of the Lake. What I did not care for was the lack of bathroom toilet tissue (out by 3pm) and the completely overflowing trash container. Not a small trash can, a dumpster. Not sure why these items were not address. read more

Review is for campground!!! Hubby and I have been camping our entire lives.We both come from families that love camping.So when we got together, camping just seemed natural to us. We've been to MANY private campgrounds but more state parks. Ultimately, what we'd love to have in a camp site is full hookup-water, electric AND sewage. But we've learned, especially in state parks is that this a rare find. Cool. We're campers. We adapt. This park is NOT that rare find when it comes to the above three I mentioned. They only offer 3 sites that include water, electric and sewage. This is disapointing as Geneva is an AWESOME area to vacation and perhaps campers would book longer stays if more admenities were offered. But then again, with Geneva being prime realstate, perhaps, this state park is little more than a place to plop your head after full days of wine and water surfing. So the campground- clean and quite. Literally the quietest campground we've ever visited. Bathroom and shower house clean. Water pressure and temp of water awesome (that's a biggie for me) Down side, besides not offering more full hook ups.....no activities. I get it, in this area of Ohio, they really don't have to. But every camper needs some down time. And activities for the kids would be over the top great. None. Beach within walking distance of the campground is awesome. One thing that stuck out in my mind is that is is the only park, both state or private run, where I never saw anyone "official" driving around. No golf carts with employees or hosts. No park rangers. Weird. Would I come back? Yep. read more

We love the campground but I didn't give it 5 stars because a van pulling a boat pulled in last night at dusk. It has not been all week. The office was closed. No tags. No ranger seen all week. So, anyone can pull in without paying? And, it felt creepy! read more

Have gone to these lovely cabins evey year with my family ever since i can remember. we rent out all 12 every summer for 2 weeks as a family reunion and a fun time. love this place and the memories i've made there growing up. although it isnt the most luxurious or spacious when you have to share the loft with 3 others, it's a tradition i look forward for evey year. it's a great deal for access to the playground, the somewhat janky side beaches, the pavilion for parties, and the nicer beach just a half mile away. i love this place so much thank you for the memories read more

This park is located in Geneva, OH on the shore of Lake Erie. My husband and I camped in the campground here with our little 9 pound terrier. It was raining most of the night we were there, which created lots of deep puddles in the grassy areas of the campsites with no where to drain. Fortunately, the campsites had paved pads to park on. It was a Saturday night and fairly active with families and children, (when the rain took a break), but we were still able to get a site. There was a tent area but this was essentially flooded with the rain. The campground has plumbed toilets that are conveniently located for campers and a shower house. These facilities are in need of some renovation, definitely old and a little dirty, but the showers were warm which is always a plus. There was a specified area for "no pets," which was thoughtful for people who don't like to be bothered with other people's pets. I've not seen that often at state campgrounds. There was electricity and full service sites available. The park staff were helpful when we first arrived and we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend trying (due to the rain I didn't manage any good pictures). read more
