We usually…read morestay at the beach houses right across from Martin Bay, but we weren't able to secure any spots there, so we went with the only available area for a group of 10, and Eagle Canyon was it. Based on other reviews and the photos I was able to set my own expectations for the trip. I knew our cabin, the lily pad would be tight. But it was just my husband and two little kids. Our cabin was narrow, but still had a semi-kitchen. Mini fridge, stove up, small bathroom, and a bunk bed + full bed in the bedroom then a futon pull out. My 6'4 husband had to sleep on the futon because he was too tall for the bedroom, but that was fine by me because the bed was actually really comfy. Overall, we spent almost no time in our cabin. Our in-laws had a butterfly cabin which is very similar layout to the lilypad, and my mother and father in laws cabin was the eagle, so it was bigger. They had a full fridge so we stocked a lot of food there and they were a bit more secluded. The cabins we were in are tucked in between mobile campers so we started with a lot of neighbors and then they left over the week and it was just cabins. Now, onto the amenities, they have a general store with a lot of what you might need if you forgot some food items and drinks, including alcohol. They had beach toys and stuff for kids. The staff was SUPER nice and really friendly. The play ground was nice, they have basketballs for the court, and we enjoyed the pool, it was really perfect for toddlers not sure about teenagers. On our favorites was the pony rides on Sunday, our kids really enjoyed that. It was a really unique place to stay for 3 nights and I enjoyed getting all my steps in going back and forth. There is a trail to walk close to the beach. If you don't mind the 30 mins daily drive to the beach its a good place to stay.

I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the entire area and overall respect of the property and other guests. The pool wasn't exactly first class but the kids LOVED it and had a blast. Very friendly service. The location was OK- a bit of a drive (10 Minutes to the nicer beach) but we would totally stay here again and highly recommend. (I also want to add that adjusting your expectations is helpful- I looked at some of these reviews and honestly, You are signing up for a camping area in Nebraska- not the Ritz. We have been to beautiful spots and airb&bs and we're pretty picky so this was exactly what we signed up for- a fun low key family camping adventure)

I found a few things to like about the rebuilt rest area: It's new. It's big, with lots of parking. It's relatively safe: there are no hidden spots for spooky characters to hide. The merge back onto I-80 is long and perfectly angled. Some key things are missing--things which traditionally make Nebraska rest areas great. No shelters to protect picnickers from sun or rain or wind. No tornado shelter. No local character. No art/sculptures. No trees. No panoramic views for cars (the tuckers get the view this time). No obvious pet "exercise" area. There's nothing innovative about the interior of the building. There's a cavernous space with no clear purpose. Accessibility was a checklist item but not a true priority. Yes, there are ramps and button-operated doors. But the doors are narrower than some wheelchairs and tight turns are required. I got a few bars of intermittent Verizon 4G signal and 3 bars of ultrafast T-Mobile 5G+. I get the impression that the new design came from someone in another state who had never visited other Nebraska rest areas.

A paved loop pathway leads around the back of the building, past a field, if you like to get some walking in when you stop. In July, we got bitten many, many times by flies (even as we swatted and flapped a jacket about to deter them) so just be aware. I did not see a designated pet area and picnic tables are in full sun, no shelters or tree shade. The information desk attendent was available to answer questions about NE tourism and there are lots of travel brochures available (no charge).

Our son calls the two bed cabins our tiny house at the lake. We have also shared the big house with friends and it is great. Lots of room for several families and a backyard for them to play at. The convenience store has everything you need for fishing, boating, or just those items you forgot to pack. Best place on the lake!

We love that they can pull their campers right to the beach and create your own camp. There are different packages so you can get all you need. This year we added another camper to accommodate another family. It was great to have 3 different campers to relax in during some chilly days. We also ordered fire wood and corn hole boards a picnic table and chairs. I highly recommend all of these. We also rented the boat with the slide and was unable to use it due to high wind. These guys KNOW what they're talking about when it comes to weather, I can assure you they don't cancel boats out of any other reason than safety. We ended up with a pontoon the next day (no slide sadly) and Jason said very sternly wind was coming by 4:45pm and he wasn't off by the minute, the wind picked up so fast it could have become a dangerous situation with the little kids in the water and we raced back off the water. I really appreciate their concern and they are super helpful even if we have to call and wake them up :) Really do enjoy our time here every year because they make it so much fun.

So we went to a different boat rental place and they have heard that they cancel on people a lot. So if you want a better boat rental choose Ski Patrol! We rented from them without an issue and were able to enjoy our vacation with friends. Kind of disappointing to be lied to maybe you shouldn't have that boat out to rent if your not going to rent it!
