This beautiful park surrounds Lake Lynn with a 2.6 mile trail that loops around. The park is smooth and has a painted center line, which makes it great for walking, jogging or biking. I would hope folks that are biking or inline skating remember to look out for pedestrians! I did not see any wildlife but you can expect ducks and geese attracted to the water source. There are a few shaded picnic areas along the trail. The entrance to the park that I used did not have a handicapped entrance - there is a staircase from the parking area to the start of the trail. I think there's another entrance elsewhere. I understand that the park gets quite crowded during peak times so come first thing in the morning and you'll have the bonus of a smooth lake like a sheet of glass. Lake Lynn is my neighborhood park. It features popular trails, tennis courts, playgrounds, shelter and meeting room rentals, a large modern basketball court, and a lovely community center. The park & recreation staff are professional and they keep this community center in pristine shape. My daughter attends basketball training here and the open gym hours are an added bonus for young athletes. I love the convenience of the trails within proximity that connect to the lake. One of top 5 favorite places to spend time at in Raleigh. The lake views offer serenity and mental escape. read more

Beautiful walking path along a lake with ducks geese turtles squirrels and wooden bridges. Some shaded and some sunny spots. Benches here and there. Bust with all ages and dog walkers. It is a great place. If you want a more private and peaceful walk this trail tends to be full of people. Good for safety but not good for being alone with your thoughts. read more

Hey family! I wanted to share this with you all. As you know, I live in Greensboro but I will venture out to Raleigh and Charlotte occasionally. I had been seeing posts on Instagram from the LetsGetSocialRaleigh account and I kept saying I was going to go to an event. They had one this past Saturday for a hike and chill. Since the weather was about 65, I felt I couldn't make an excuse and I got up to join in on the hike. I'm trying a new thing to make connections with others and try to do more group things instead of being solo. Please understand, I LOVE doing things by myself most times but I thought that I'd try something new. The park was very nice but I will warn you, this one is very hilly. I've been on trails before but not one like this. Considering I haven't exercised in a few months, it wasn't so bad. Please stretch before you tackle it lol. It was wonderful to be in nature. Although, I didn't keep up with the group, I didn't mind as I was being present in the moment. It was so peaceful and serene and I wasn't bored. I would definitely walk this again. I didn't get a chance to explore more of the park other than the trail but I promise I will report back. If you're in the Raleigh area or even if you're not. It only took me an hour to get there. Take some time to get in nature and recalibrate your energy. I felt so much better after the hike and I felt balanced. I hope that I will do this more often. I might even invest in hiking shoes. Very pretty park with a good walking, running trail and lots of wild life from frogs to geese and deer. We have been here many times and enjoy the walk. The trail goes around the lake and must be about 2.5 miles Today the City of Raleigh Parks Department again did one for the books, we decided to counterclockwise for our "once around" the lake and after walking about two miles we found a crew working on removing a tree or two and the sign "crew at work" was just a few hundred feet from the actual place of work so we had to walk back around and advise everyone about. They are working so it is ok for us to walk the extra mile but the Parks Dept will also get a review for being so coordinated. What I always found amusing is the mile markers, you see some on the right other on the left and nothing makes sense because you don't know where is the "start" and if you start at mile marker 1 which is about a quarter of a mile from the parking lot and walk about another quarter of a mile the next marker reads 1 3/4 and of course you are not even half way around read more

Love Lynn Park or, as I refer to it as, Turtle Island or Duck Island! It is an easy 2.8 loop trail around the lake! Great place to take the dogs, have a walk/run, and ride your bike! Great photography opportunities! Ample parking off the street! The scenery never gets old because it seems like there is something new to see along the way! Lots of wildlife, as well! Lake Lynn is a nice natural setting surrounded by a number of apartments and private residences. The paved path is shady, winding and somewhat narrow, so not recommending for bikers. Entire loop around is about 2.75 miles. Turtles galore, as well as a few herons and migrating geese. For those who live nearby, it is a nice nature break. However given the distance from my home and the narrow curving trail, I much prefer the other greenways along the Neuse River. read more

I love walking around Lake Lynn! I can never get enough of those cute little baby turtles all over the place. Lake Lynn can be a bit of a hot spot so expect the trail to be a bit crowded. Mom tip, I recently went with my baby and the bumpy bridges were great at getting my fussy babe to sleep. Parking is usually pretty easy, but if you are meeting a friend make sure you all know which part of the loop you are starting on. I've done the full loop before, but it is long, so often times I just do part of it and turn around and go the way I came. Highly recommend if you are looking to go for a nice stroll and wanting to switch up your scenery! read more

Ahh, Lynn Lake, the lake I go to when I want a change from Shelley Lake. This, too, is a nice, big lake with a paved trail around it. I find though that the trail here is a little wonky--tilts here and there making your walk a bit uneven, and probably biking not as nice as at Shelley Lake. It is a nice 2-mile loop though, taking you through some treed areas, as well as over wooden bridges. There's lots of wildlife to see--my favorite are the strange-looking goose-chicken hybrids. (At least that's what they look like.) In the summer the piles of HUGE turtles are really cool, too. There's lots of grassy areas here, but not as much of a picnic area as Shelley. But grab a blanket, bring a lunch, and enjoy the sunshine and the beauty of yet another lake we are blessed to have! read more

Beautiful trail surrounding Lake Lynn. Most of it is shaded by trees with a few spots, near the parking lot mostly, that are out in the sun. I always see wildlife when I walk this trail Usually sucks, geese, and turtles, so many turtles but I have also seen a snake (little black snake off the trail and down by the water) and a deer walking through a shallow, marshy part of the lake. There almost always seems to be a breeze coming off the lake as well. There are some mild hills around the circle and some spots in the pavement that are cracked or crumbling but for the most part it's well maintained. Sometimes it smells a little funky where the water doesn't move, but not too often. It's an enjoyable and calming walk even when there are a lot of other people on the trail. read more

Great place to enjoy the great outdoors. Watch out for goose poop! Great place for a walk with the dogs. Although it gets busy during the obvious times, it doesn't seem too crowded. I love the nature and it's very quiet and peaceful and great place to relax. It's so beautiful out here and just a nice place to get way. I love scenic area and peaceful atmosphere. Lake Lynn is my home away from home and despite my enjoyment of exploring all the parks and lakes in Raleigh, I've been visiting this park for over a decade so I always come back to it again and again for the joy it brings me and anyone I take there. I am shocked that in five years of writing reviews that I've never reviewed this particular park! It's my favorite place to walk. I don't love running there because it's so hilly, but lately I've felt compelled so I've run some of it. The 2.8 miles of trails are paved and a little narrow, but wide enough for those coming and going. People walk their dogs, push strollers, run, and occasionally you'll see some bike riders although the bike riders aren't very courteous to the walkers. Aside from walking and running, some people do actually work out there or even just relax. There is one grassy hill near the Lynn Road entrance where people work out often running up and down or doing group workouts in the flat area. The flat grassy area right near the lake at the Lynn Road parking lot is also popular for those who want to lay out or read. There are plenty of ducks, geese, turtles, squirrels, and swans to see. I may be a "grownup" now, but I love to feed the ducks and take pictures of the animals again and again. Water fowl are my favorite. I've even seen a Great Blue Heron there! There are some fish in the lake so, since it's warmed up, I see people fishing every time I go there. There is a community center at the Ray Road entrance, which seems to be the more official one since Lynn Road's entrance isn't even listed on the Lake Lynn Park website. Outside amenities include: - 4 lighted tennis courts (to reserve please call 919-872-4129) - a lighted ballfield (to reserve please call 919-996-6836) - batting cage - playground - 2 bocce courts - 2.8 mile greenway trail around Lake Lynn I've taken dozens of pictures at Lake Lynn, but I'll try to limit the photos I'm posting to the ones I've taken this year alone. Another weekend, another great opportunity to explore a new trail! This time, it is the Lake Lynn loop. So unfortunately, we had great timing because early voting was on the same day at Lake Lynn community center so the parking lot was pretty full and some people had to park along the road. Difficulty wise, the trail was not that difficult. There isn't really a huge change in elevation so you don't get any uphills or downhills. It's pretty flat throughout the trail. Dogs are allowed and we've seen plenty along our hike. The scenery was mostly good if you can ignore some of the nasty green algae floating on top of sections of the lake. Also, we saw this drainage pipe that was unloading some gatorade lime colored liquid that we couldn't identify. As for fauna, we saw this family of turtles just chilling on a log. There were also some ducks quacking away. Overall, this is a pretty nice casual trail to try out. read more

Beautiful park! Milo & I checked out Lake Lynn on a very warm Saturday. Surprisingly, they weren't that busy, so I was happy to see that. Many trails greet you & plenty of water & water wildlife to watch. The trails are clean of brush & are neatly landscaped/"groomed." I love that there was no trash around; however, it was evident some people do not clean up after their dogs. I saw people kayaking & canoeing. The bridges & walkway are beautiful & sturdy. There are plenty of benches around for those much needed breaks. read more

Years ago I lived here in Raleigh at one of the Apartments on the edge of this park. And it might not have been long that I lived there, but I fell in love with this area the lake, the trail to walk around at night after work. I still think about as I sit here in this big state of Texas, wishing we had something like this close to where I live. But it is perfect to walk, run or whatever floats your boat here. Awesome park around a beautiful lake. The water on the sides is obviously gross and yellow/green looking, but the actual lake is gorgeous. It's almost 3 miles to walk around, all paved or wooden bridges, and there are ducks all around to feed. There aren't many trash cans or benches to sit on, but most people are running or biking and don't want to stop anyway. Definitely will be back on another beautiful day. read more

This is a pretty decent lake if you want to take a mini hike since it's about 3 miles around. Mostly shaded areas, but you will find yourself walking on docks that end up showing a good view. If you're looking for animals, all I've seen are Geese, ducks, and turtles, so nothing unique. A good place for dog walking, running, etc. I wouldn't recommend having a picnic here though, there's not enough big open spaces that i've seen for that. It's in a safe neighborhood and surrounded by apartments with a lot of people that are around, so it's nothing to worry about if you're by yourself. I've never been there at night though. My only complaint about this lake is that it's not the cleanest in the world, but then again pretty much all Raleigh lakes aren't that I know of. Overall though, it's a place worth checking out! read more

This park has paved trails and a tot lot! We got to see Canadian geese, turtles, and fish. Because there were wooden bridges, we got to see Lynn Park's wildlife up close and personal. I also saw a couple of people biking, jogging, and one dude fishing for Bass. I was with another mommy friend and her 18 month old looked like she enjoyed feeding the geese and of course the tot lot playground. I have a 6 month old and there was plenty to see to keep her stimulated. Make sure you pack water and bug repellent. This is a great trail but the non shaded areas get extremely hot and humid. We did find a little gazebo to rest at but were quickly shooed away by a wasp. Apparently, she made her home underneath the benches we were sitting at. Love this trail. Next time, I'll pack some bread so I can feed the birds and provide more entertainment for my munchkin! read more

Despite the thriving ugly duck community, Lake Lynn Trail is one of my favorite places to run in Raleigh. The trail is mostly flat. There are a few hills here and there, but nothing too challenging. It's about 2 miles and some change all the way around, so it's a great place for a post-work run on a weeknight. The trail runs right alongside the lake, so you have the opportunity to see some cool wildlife, like ducks, turtles, and if you get lucky--a crane! Lake Lynn is home to probably the largest muscovy duck population in the area. I may sound like a duck expert, but I literally just googled "turkey duck" to figure that out. They're actually an invasive species, so don't feed them. Feed the prettier ducks! A lot of people park on the lot on Lynn Road, but the lot near the community center off of Ray Road actually is much larger. read more

Great multi-use nature preserve park. I love parks that are still "natural". Not so manicured, and home to real forest animals. But this park has also been made very accessible to people and parts of it are well developed. There is a beautiful boardwalk all around the lake. Jogging, Walking, Fishing, Stroller pushing, Fish & Bird feeding ... This is what the boardwalk was made for. There are different trails, of different lengths, that wind themselves through the shade, up the hills and by the lakeside. And it is the lake, with all of its wildlife, that is the main attraction here. But there is also a tot lot, and it looked like sports fields and the normal things you would expect at a normal park. Note** Could use more water fountains. As I didn't pass any, I would seriously suggest bringing ice water if you visit on a hot summer day. read more

I have nothing but praise for Lake Lynn. The boyfriend and I walk here quite frequently on the weekends, and sometimes after work if it's still light. The trail is fairly wide and paved. The "short loop" is 2.1 miles (I've clocked it with my Garmin) and the "long loop" (add the spur to the Ray Road parking lot) is 2.6 miles. My boyfriend and I train to walk half marathons, so the Lake Lynn trail offers us a bit of a challenge with the varied terrain. Plus there's a lot of wildlife in the area--squirrels, ducks, Canada geese, regular geese, the occasional crane. Please note, watch where you step, as some animal "by-products" end up on the trail! :) There's a lot to see along the trail--it's not dull. It can get crowded on the weekends, with folks walking their dogs or their children. ;) I've seen people fishing the lake off the bank and also in a boat (with a trolling motor), so the lake may be stocked? Not sure on that count; don't quote me on that. I go for the fresh air and the walking trails. read more

Always do my outside marathon training runs around Lake Lynn. Great path, great people walking there great dogs. Pleanty of trees and shade also plenty of parking. Great overall park and trail. Runner beware, people do not move out of the way, often forcing the running off the path to pass. This is not just a one time thing. Otherwise i love it here. read more

Lake Lynn is a great place to go for a run, and has become a favorite for my husband and me. The loop is mostly flat, but offers several little offshoots that we like to run up and down to add a little extra distance. It is clean and we have always felt safe. I wish people wouldn't feed the ducks and geese so much! I'm pretty sure it is illegal and that the entire loaves of bread that I have seen people throw to them can't be too healthy. The community center offers water fountains and clean restrooms if you need a break. I would definitely suggest giving it a try, whether you are walking, biking, or running. read more

I definitely enjoyed my run at this lake over Lake Shelley. Its cleaner, smells better, and the path is more shaded with scenic views of the lake and wildlife. I saw so many different species of birds, I lost count. The trail has constant rolling hills versus steep and sporadic ups and downs. I appreciated the bathroom and water fountains at the community center. read more

The perfect balance of sun and shade can be found at Lake Lynn park. This two mile loop is paved and has bridges where you can stop to see the wildlife (mainly ducks and turtles, but we've also seen deer and rabbits in the woods). If you pull off at the community center, there is a playground for kids of all ages as well :-) read more

Lake Lynn is a beautiful park and conveniently located in my area. It's too bad that all the irresponsible dog owners in the triangle area come here, though. I see dog poop everywhere not being picked up and dog poop bags that are tossed aside. Most of the dog owners I see do not even carry bags, even though there are bags provided and trashcans in multiple spots. This is so lazy, irresponsible, rude, and disgusting! If you can't clean up after your animal then don't have one. Or don't bring it. I made a suggestion about this to the person at the front desk but it was ignored apparently. If I don't see improvements, I won't be coming back or recommending this place. read more
