The Greenway is a series of connecting trails that wind all through Raleigh (and beyond in some areas!), providing exercise and relaxation all at once. Why bother with the treadmill in the gym when you can hit the Greenway and enjoy flowers, wildlife, and birdsong while you work out? Every stretch I've been on has been paved, with sections over water being boardwalk-style, which makes access possible for wheelchairs and strollers as well as providing an even surface for walking/running and biking. Some sections do require the crossing of a city street for access, especially on the stretch from Raleigh Boulevard to Lassiter Mill, so keep that in mind. Some sections have sporadic lighting, such as the area around the art museum, but most are unlit; I recommend carrying a pocket flashlight if you go out toward evening because the canopy makes things a little darker. It's an enjoyable, peaceful, pleasant walk through the nature hidden in our city! read more
