Brookville Lake is our home lake. We live 35 minutes away and we own a boat so we spend a lot of…read moretime here. The lake itself is a little more than 5,000 Acres which is then surrounded by about 11,000 Acres of woods and picnic areas. Our main focus is fishing it is what we love to do. We were able to get out fishing about a week ago as the weather had turned nice. In the summer months the lake does get pretty busy with boaters and skiers. The first time this year we got out and caught 19 crappie and one catfish. That lake is full of catfish. We catch enough fish in the lake over the course of the fishing season to feed our family and extended family for the year. You can also find campgrounds here and you can reserve them through the Indiana DNR website. There are also hiking trails through the woods. Plenty to do if you want to get away for a week or a weekend.

This is my favorite type of park - a hidden gem of true nature among the warehouses and blight of industrialism. If you have the Merlin bird app, keep it listening here. I always get at least 15+ different birds in my loop around the ponds. In the trees you can see hundreds of birds nests, they look like little apartments. You can often find people out here with giant lenses hoping to catch a glimpse. The walking loop is a perfect distance for me. It's about 2.1 miles and if you take the optional traces you can make it even longer. My dog is not really into walking that far, but too bad for him. Also got my first mosquito bite of 2026 here! Be warned that when it rains, the beginning path at the Gilmore entrance can flood and come up through the holes, so watch your step. One of my favorite places in this part of Ohio, and I'll miss it dearly! Big gratitude to the people who keep this a wonderful place to experience nature. PS - Dogs are supposed to be on leash here. We headed left onto the boardwalk from the small parking lot and headed through a wooded area before we found ourselves walking alongside the ponds. The way the woods and boardwalk are situated, it seems likely they are seasonal wetlands, but on the cold crisp day of our visit, the ponds were the first water we spotted. We headed back to check out the bird blind, which is nicely constructed and features some helpful signage. Unfortunately, someone had left poop inside of the structure. Other than that unpleasant surprise, the area was very nice and a good place to visit.

We went with some friends who were visiting from out of town and initially wanted to get a motorboat but because we had 4 1/2 people we could not get it. We settled on the paddle boats with the canopy and it turned out to be a better experience. We moseyed down the lake eating watermelon and strawberries and listening to bluegrass via Bluetooth to submerge ourselves in the experience. For a few hours, I forgot I was in the city. It was a pretty cheap and stress free experience. There are so many options for the water vessels along with fishing and summertime treats in the field house. Parking is $3 a pop but you can get a year pass for $10. The return on investment is incredible if you ask me...but I guess no one is asking! :) Enjoy! Not so humbly submitted, Michael C

I had also sent an email through the "contact us" option on the website asking for the email address for the supervisor or guest relations. I received a response from Lisa Herring the next day 8/12 letting me know that this was the correct email address and to send her my comments/ concerns and that she would forward it to the correct person it needed to go to. I then forwarded her the exact letter I had emailed to the assistant manager. I have yet to get a response from either person, so I have attached a copy of the letter that I sent in hopes to receive a response from the person in charge of Breezy Point at Woodland Mound! To whom it may concern, Hello, my name is Alexyss Parker. I'm writing to you today to inform you of an experience I had with your lifeguards at Breezy Point splash pad. Upon arriving, my daughter was so excited to play in the water. Getting her shoes off was almost impossible because she was so excited. As she ran through the water, I heard both of the lifeguards yell at her to walk. She kept running. Because I was tending to my other child, I could not get to the lifeguards quick enough to talk to them about the situation. During the time I was tending to my other child I heard the lifeguards yell at her a few more times to walk. Once I got my youngest situated, I walked over to the lifeguards and told them that my daughter has Autism and she doesn't understand that she needs to walk, she doesn't even know that they're talking to her. As I was explaining that my daughter doesn't understand, one of your lifeguards then asked me to tell her that she needs to walk. I then told her I would try to explain to her that she needs to walk, but I again told her that she has Autism and doesn't understand. I expressed to them that I didn't know what else to do, that she's going to run a bit because she's excited (she runs and flaps her hands when she's excited). The lifeguard then told me that she needs to walk because if other kids see her running they're going to run too. I told her I understood and would do my best to keep her from running. Throughout our time there I could see them talking amongst themselves and sometimes pointing at my daughter. It honestly made me feel uncomfortable and like it was an inconvenience that my daughter was there, even though they had to tell other kids multiple times to walk as well. I had even heard one of them say to another child, "You need to walk, I don't want to have to tell you again!" Isn't that her job? To make sure these kids are safe? Some kids need repetition and need to be told something over and over again, until it finally clicks for them or in some cases it doesn't "click". My daughter is one of those kids who needs that repetition. I feel as though if they were more educated in being around special needs children, the conversation would have been a lot different and our time there would have been more fun. The young gentleman that took over for a short period of time while the other girl I'm assuming was on break, did a wonderful job at trying to help remind her to walk and had even reached his hand out to her to try to get her to slow down. He was very patient with all of the kids, unlike the other girls who just completely disregarded even trying. My daughter is not the only child in this community with special needs. There are other kids who have a hard time understanding and comprehending rules and safety just like my daughter. We have been here multiple times before today and it has never been this much of an issue. I bring my daughter here because I feel like Breezy Point is the safest place for her to play and enjoy the water because it is a gated area and she is completely oblivious to danger. I wanted to make you aware of this situation that way you could use this as a teaching tool and better educate your staff about how to appropriately approach and handle the situation given they are faced with another special needs child (and another parent trying to do their best) in the future. He read something about having birds of prey at this park .. we'd never been there and didn't realize it was going to take an hour to get there. When we arrived there were naturalists who had birds they had rehabilitated after illness or injury. All of them were not going to be able to be set free which is always sad but we got to observe them from a short distance and they answered questions about the bird which was interesting. YOu never know till you try .. if I had know that was all it was I'm not sure we would have drove that distance. we looked at the birds for about 30 minutes and drove back. there was no fee for the park or the birds of prey

A lovely little park on the northern side of Cincinnati! There's a great one mile nature trail with…read moremarkers and educational markers that makes for a nice brisk walk. The lake is great for catch and release fishing and is 1/3 mile loop with lovely views of the water and woods. The bike trail has two loops. The A loop makes a great 4 mile trail run with lovely wildflowers and trees. The B loop is a little more rigorous and woodsy. Highly recommend this park!

It was well worth the cost and I am considering bringing my wife back to experience it. I believe I was there for at least 3 hours but who knows. The history and overall story of this area is fascinating and the knowledge exhibited by the speaker was limitless. She knew everything and answered every question like it was nothing. In my group were several former employees which added to the experience. Our group had the somewhat rare experience of climbing to the top of the mound and the view was great. The reclamation and preservation of this area is commendable. If only it was not necessary in the first place. Visiting here would be great for all ages and bring your zoom lens to take photos of one of the most diverse concentrations of birds and other wildlife in the area.

I thought I saw a beaver but in looking at pics it was a huge rat in the water eeek. But today only birds, turtles and dragonflies. Had hoped to see beaver or snakes but no luck. saw cedar waxwings but they were turned away so not the best pics and when I repositioned they flew away. sighhh. I got there late in the day and was already tired but it was a perfect weather day and got 2 days worth of steps in, but you have to be patient and bit lucky.
