Checked it out and was ready to roll with a cabin, but the very last cabin was listed as a caboose. Chance to live a Gen X childhood dream? Yes, please! This is up there with the high end treehouse hotels that are way beyond my budget. Yes, there's road noise from U.S. 50 and an occasional train toot from across the highway, but the historic novelty of getting to stay in a supremely renovated caboose is so very, VERY worth $120-ish per night. It's well-designed (rich, warm hues - yellow, orange and red - offset by decorative teal and royal blue accents) and appointed, complete with (starting from the caboose of the caboose ): a two-headed rainfall shower, early-mid 1900s elevated toilet basin with the tug chain (like the train driver's whistle cord), stained glass window, saloon doors to get in/out of the bathroom area, water pump styled faucet/sink, a mini-ice box fridge that reminds me of the one at my grandparents' house when I was a kid, matching microwave, mid-size TV, pressed-copper ceiling (real metal; definitely not plastic), raw-edged tree cross-section headboard, queen bed, a hammock (my favorite), an upper-bunk that kiddos will surely fight over, opposite side lower bunk, elevated front- and backward seats (where the brake guy used to sit) and an authentic train door as your entrance. What's basically a back yard (broadside, behind the caboose) has a fire pit and Adirondack-ish chairs, so super-cozy on a cool night (firewood's about $7, which I'm pretty sure is normal at any box store). In short, a totally unique experience that meets or beats the more predictable hotel experience and prices. They are intentionally designed to be consistent, while the caboose was designed to be totally different, but in a really cool way that combines rustic with comfort and modernity. I'm just in town to work, so I can't really speak to the other areas of the campground except this one.

Worker hit the main line, shut off water with no warning so couldn't fill fresh tank. Then sold me fire wood that was pressure treated landscape timber. But here's a change again. The girl just came by as I was typing this and refunded 2 days of no water and the firewood. I am understanding that this is a new owner and he's spending money to improve everything. Let's give him a chance.
