But, where they may be weak in those categories, they make up the distance and more by providing amazing service, spa and culinary experience offered to there guests. We had the pleasure of staying in the resort for a couple weeks during our daughters involvement with a Juilliard music program in Geneva. You know when you have reached the height of of customer service when all the staff addresses you by name and has a sincere concern for your well being. That is how we felt by the time we had to depart. Like making a new family. We will be in Geneva next summer and for sure we will be staying at La Reserve.

There's a grocery store across the street if you want to save money on water and snacks. -Friendly English speaking staff. -They give you a free unlimited metro pass, although we never needed it. -I was worried the decor was a way to distract you from dingy, dirty rooms. That wasn't the case; it was clean enough. -They can provide you a plug adapter to borrow, if you need it. -Decent tourist trap restaurant located in the hotel (tastes great, but ambiance and price was not good). -Beds were comfortable enough but clearly older. Also, twin room had the twin beds together. Not ideal if you don't want to essentially sleep with your companion. Cons: -The AC barely worked. It was so hot up on the 6th floor. -If you switched off the built-in overhead light, all the outlets in the room lose power but one. It made it very difficult to charge our phones overnight. -Lighting in the room was terrible. -The shower was horrible. If you angled the head to face where you stand water just goes onto the floor because there's no curtain and the glass is 1/4 the length of the shower.

The front desk staff was nice. There is a restaurant with great food. They accommodated us and allowed us to order and eat you arriving 10 mins before closing. The surrounding neighborhood has its "rougher" parts, especially with brothel occupied Rue de Berne *ahem*, though I never felt leery/ unsafe, more so intrigued, really ;). The easy walk to Geneva Lake and Paquis de Buvette was much convenient, on the other hand. It was a short stroll to reach Old Town as well. Perhaps my feedback would be that the AC and mini bar fridge could have been colder, but my American butt be so high maintenance, therefore they are minor gripes. Super helpful to have a link sent prior to our visit to acquire the free public transit pass for tourists. It allowed us to hop on one of the many trains leaving from the station at the airport to Geneva train station.

The lobby is small and intimate but fabulous and all done in woods, Italian marble, lots of plush green walls with marble busts, statues and artwork. There's also the famous "Leopard Bar" in the hotel. I booked via AMEX FHR (the hotel is also a member of Leading Hotels of the World) and got a wonderful deal with breakfast and a room upgrade. Try to get a room in the front of the hotel facing the lake because you'll have the most beautiful view of the jet d'eau and the quai. Reception was so kind and actually showed me a couple of rooms. I ended up taking a room that was on the side because I loved the color and the artwork, but I could still see the lake when I looked out the window. All the rooms are different colors and shades and have different themes. Mine had a turquoise hue with a Parisian "can can" theme, original artwork and a chandelier. I also saw a room in the center with a direct view of the fountain that had a nautical royal blue theme. The thing this hotel is really famous for is the high tea at the Windows restaurant. Make a reservation in advance because it's very popular. It's something you can't miss. Try to nab a window seat with a view of the lake. The tiered tea tray is incredible and they make fabulous scones. I actually consumed an entire tier by myself! They also have a wonderful breakfast in Windows restaurant and I highly recommend the fresh crêpes with maple syrup (sirop d'érable). After breakfast, take a walk in front of the hotel to the quai where there is a modern statue for the Empress of Austria, Sisi, who was tragically assassinated nearby in the 19th century. She was staying at the Beau Rivage hotel next door. All in all this is my favorite hotel in the area. You won't be disappointed if you love the classic, grand hotel style. As it's privately owned and a part of the Red Carnation hotel group, it's not completely modernized and sparkling high tech new like some of the other hotels which have lost their character. The United Nations offices, Red Cross and WHO are very close by, so there are large numbers of dignitaries staying in the hotel on a regular basis. Be sure to visit the hallway with photos of some of the well-known people who've stayed at the hotel, which was first opened in 1964. We certainly had one of the lower end rooms, facing west toward some local housing (and a co-op) vs. overlooking Lake Geneva in the distance. Incidentally, the co-op has some decent ready-to-eat food selections... so if you don't want a sit-down meal, it might be a good place to visit. Other than the hotel restaurant, there are only a few good places to eat within easy walking distance of the hotel. Our room was spacious by European standards, and there was beautiful lighting, extra seating, and desk space. A room safe and minibar are part of the package. The king bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed, with an expansive deep bathtub and wonderful large bath towels. The toiletries were a rather exclusive brand and had a great unisex scent. We only had breakfast in the restaurant, but it, too, was outstanding. Both buffet and menu selections were available. Servers were competent and sincerely nice. We especially enjoyed our interactions with Sarah. The hostess was wonderful as well. This hotel had many amenities that we didn't use, like a pool and sauna.
