    1. I chose this Hotel because of the Hamam and the heated swimming pool. Neither was operational…read more The Hamam was out of work pending for the technician to fix it. The swimming pool is not heated. The staff at the reception told me it is 26 degrees Celsius. It was when I put my toe in that I realised it should be between 16-18 degrees Celsius. 2. The flush in the toilet of my room did not function well. 3. Internet was off for an hour one morning. This is not good especially for people like me who are there on business and have to work. 4. Breakfast is poor, very little variety for 15 Euros. Regarding bread, the first day I found just sliced white bread. For a 5* Hotel in France I expected at least baguette. Several of the dishes were empty but nobody bothered to fill them. When I finished my breakfast they were still empty. The second day neither water nor milk nor nature yogurt. I had to ask for all three. 5. I had twice dinner. The second night I was offered neither water nor bread. I waited 10' to get the menu even for such a small hotel restaurant with a small number of tables. I ordered the R salad. What I received was a tapas plate with fried calamari and falafel. When I said that this is not a salad the chef offered to make for me a special salad. It was when I got the dish that I realised that it was a salad from the menu, a basic one with lettuce, egg, olives and tomatoes. No seasoning, no sauce, no taste. If the chef had told me that I would get that specific salad from the menu, I would have ordered something else. Conclusion no good value for money. I was expecting more from a 5* Hotel with rooms at 120 Euros per night.

Typically, I assume most hotels have a REAL bed - the room I was given ONLY had a sofa bed - for $137.00. The sheets were awful, they were so scratchy I slept on top of the blanket. I would have traded the "kitchenette" for a bed with decent sheets. I was told that only the "superior rooms" had real beds....seriously? The dinner I ordered was ok, the meat was way overcooked but it was edible. I won't be back any time soon.

An absolutely great deal if you're living in Geneva and need a meal that actually delivers on the…read moreamount of money you pay. In Geneva you're looking to pay ~50CHF for really really mediocre food. Everything is overpriced there and because Geneva's top restaurants prey on the unrefined palates of bankers, businessmen and policymakers who have to travel through Geneva, it leaves people looking for an affordable, high quality meal really out of luck. Lucky for you, you can travel to the neighboring French town of Ferney Voltaire (take the F bus) and enjoy a fantastic prix fixe meal at Hotel de France for the same price and get in addition to a starter, plate, and dessert -- an amuse bouche as well as a selection of cheese from one of the most diverse cheese carts I've yet encountered in Europe. I generally turn my nose at hotel restaurants but Hotel de France does a good job of putting together a menu that will please anyone. Vegetarian options available. Each plate is composed and recognizes a need for balancing flavors and textures. Each plate is artistically presented. Bread is complimentary and is required for sopping up the rich cream sauces that accompany many of the dishes. Best in Ferney-Voltaire, maybe even in Geneva for the price. (Accepts CHF and Euros)

From the appetizers to the dessert, this is one of the best meals I have eaten in my life. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a flavorful meal. I didn't give them 5 stars not because of the food, but more so for the initial customer service we received. Although, it did improve as the night wore on.

This is likely a result of the clientèle they regularly serve. The United Nations offices, Red Cross and WHO are very close by, so there are large numbers of dignitaries staying in the hotel on a regular basis. This also means a very secure environment that caters to people of varying nationalities. The TV channel selection, for example, reflects this. Be sure to visit the hallway with photos of some of the well-known people who've stayed at the hotel, which was first opened in 1964. We certainly had one of the lower end rooms, facing west toward some local housing (and a co-op) vs. overlooking Lake Geneva in the distance. Incidentally, the co-op has some decent ready-to-eat food selections... so if you don't want a sit-down meal, it might be a good place to visit. Other than the hotel restaurant, there are only a few good places to eat within easy walking distance of the hotel. Our room was spacious by European standards, and there was beautiful lighting, extra seating, and desk space. A room safe and minibar are part of the package. The king bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was well appointed, with an expansive deep bathtub and wonderful large bath towels. The toiletries were a rather exclusive brand and had a great unisex scent. We only had breakfast in the restaurant, but it, too, was outstanding. Both buffet and menu selections were available. Servers were competent and sincerely nice. We especially enjoyed our interactions with Sarah. The hostess was wonderful as well. This hotel had many amenities that we didn't use, like a pool and sauna. Be sure to look these up ahead of time so you bring what you need.
