As a vegetarian, it was lovely to find a place with so many options. Food was delicious and it sits right on the river with a view of the castle. Dined here two nights in a row and could not be more pleased with our service. David could not be more cheerful and charming, gave us a hug as we left!

Nice to have a vegetarian restaurant in town. Vegetarian or vegan is not a big thing in Cz so finding one is good. The food here is ok but nothing special. Service is lovely and the location is amazing with seating next to the river and magnificent views of the castle tower. Good variety of choices but I wish they would use less salad leaves on each and every dish, it's unnecessary and takes away from the flavour of the food. I had nachos which was nice but lacked toppings for the bowl. My main was sliced tofu, seitan and vegetables and it was nice but nothing special. Aperol spritz lacked spritz. Overall a lovely experience. May repeat it again sometime.

Arrived in Český Krumlov from Prague for a Christmas break towards the end of a 30-day state of emergency due to COVID-19. I had remembered visiting Laibon when I first came here over twenty years ago and was so pleased to see it was still open. My partner and I popped our heads in around 3pm and received an effusive welcome from David, the owner. When asked if we would need to book for a 7pm slot, he suggested that we could arrive around 6pm, as most places were still having to close early due to the curfew. When we arrived, we had the pick of tables and David was an impeccable host. I had a Bernard světlé (light) beer and my partner had a Coke Zero, and we began our meals with hummus and baba ganoush, salad and flatbreads for starters. Delicious! Between courses, and with another small group having arrived, David chatted to us about what had been happening in the Czech Republic and in Krumlov during the pandemic, while we filled him in on the news from England. For our mains, we had the pakori and the quesadillas, which were also beautifully prepared and incredibly tasty. More beer and coke, before we finished with buckwheat pancakes, cranberries, apple, cinnamon and cream (to share). So good that, even as carnivores, we're considering skipping meat for Christmas Day and just returning here. Highly recommended!

If you heard someone say they didn't like Tina Fey, do you think you'd ever be able to trust them again? Correct answer: Hell-to-the-naw. And that's exactly how I feel about anyone who would dare say they don't absolutely LOVE Laibon. It's so good. Like, Tina Fey good. Like, we were only in Cesky Krumlov for 2 days and we came here to eat 4 times. FOUR TIMES. I was going to look up fancier words for 'delightful' in the thesaurus to describe our experience(s), but then I thought (the thought I almost always come to), 'f*ck it!'. I'll just tell the reader the effort I was planning on putting into my descriptive and that'll be a measure in and of itself. Did it work? I can't hear you. I'll assume it worked. ... and that you think I look thin today. Thank you. So anyway. This place. It's outstanding... as is the entire town of Český Krumlov, which I think may have been my most favorite destination of our entire trip which included Prague, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Brussels. If you're anywhere near the region of Bohemia, do yourself the favor and book some time in Český Krumlov and bookmark this listing to be sure you don't pass up this gem. The menu is strictly vegetarian but even our Eastern European, meat-eating, dining companions couldn't put their forks down and were highly suggestive about coming back for the lion's share of our meals while staying in the city. They have a cozy and beautiful outdoor patio on the river but we sat in side as it was late November and balls cold outside. Inside is like a rustic, subterranean, Earthy cave-dwelling with dining areas set apart so that event when the restaurant is full, you feel like you're in a private dining type scenario. Our server the first night was this magical man named David. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and the fittest soccer body you have ever scene. Calves for days. He's bubbly and giggly and either a very manly Muppet or a Muppet of a man. I'll let you decide. David is also a first-class world traveler and possibly one of the most interesting people we'd ever met in our entire lives. He was more-than-well-versed in all things Southeast Asia and spoke about 10 billion languages. If you needed something--anything. Even things beyond the scope of what a regular restaurant would offer, David's got a guy. He really made the experience our first night out and for the rest of the trip our conversations were peppered with mentions of a very memorable David. The food is very much inspired by India and Pakistan and while there are tons of options on the menu, I highly recommend their sharing platter. You get to pick eight (I think) different options off the menu and it serves 3-4. We got a different platter every time and there wasn't a single thing that we didn't find lick-worthy. They serve a variety of fresh juices and teas as well. I ordered up one tea our first night in as my dinner, as I'd been poisoned earlier in the day by a restaurant in another town and spent a good part of the rest of the day barfing up my inner organs and felt that tea would be a good way to ease back into digesting things. Fresh ginger tea to be exact. The tea is made by friend of David's and was absolutely the best tea I've ever had, ever. Each person at my table tried it and was also blown away. I drank two pots of that tea myself and and felt like I'd gone through a full body detox but without any of the nasty stuff that normally goes along with a full body detox. A hefty meal that left all 4 of us stuffed to the brim with drinks ran us around 65 total, I think. That included 2 appetizers, drinks for all and a giant shared platter that we could barely finish, but you could easily stuff yourself here for under $8. Laibon for life!

Good food though a bit cold. They don't accept cards that is not acceptable with their price tag.

We really enjoyed the vegan combo platter, chili, red lentil soup, and ginger tea. :)

We really enjoyed the vegan combo platter, chili, red lentil soup, and ginger tea. Everything was perfectly seasoned and portioned. Plus, the owner of the restaurant is about as charming as they come... a really sweet and engaging guy. :)

Good experience. Staff was very friendly. Is vegetarian only. While I'm not a vegetarian, it was tasty anyway.

So lovely! And so great to get some veggies in such a meat heavy region. Order something more Indian style.

They have a cozy atmosphere both inside and outside, the service is excellent (if we pretend no seeing the cyclo-pants on a young waitress), and they are pretty creative for Lipno standards as well. Coming for lunch, you would be pleased by a fresh and affordable menu (their soups are excellent, but the true is, that I am always nuts for good soups). The standard dinner menu is nice as well, creatively adopting local seasonal food like chanterelles ("lisky") and blueberries, but offering also quail eggs and snails, for those of us who want to go this route. Their pancakes are delicious ("Domaci livance s jahodovou omackou", 89 Kc) as well as our traditional Czech meals ("svickova", "koprovka", "kachnicka"). The wine list is OK, full of bottles from good Moravian wineries, and although the waiter has not been using the sommelier serviette while presenting us a sparkling wine Chateau Radyne Extra Brut at 389 Kc, it tasted super nice in the sweet Lipno sunset. We will be coming back. Often.
