From the outside it looks very small but what it lacks in width it makes up for in depth. There are many tables and they are spaced apart well enough for some privacy. The first thing that struck me is how friendly the staff are. In most Indian Restaraunts the staff are polite but not overly friendly. I remarked to my friends that they all must have been on a customer service course because they smiled, asked how we were and came around asking how we found the food. I have been back a few times both with a large group of 10/12 friends and as a couple. The service is always incredibly friendly, although with 12 friends it was a bit slow but what do you expect if you dont pre-order? Everyone who has been with me agrees the food is excellent. The place is clean and the prices are reasonable. A big thumbs up from me.

I am not a regular when it comes to takeaway Indian food so I came across Westmead via a leaflet…read morethat came through my door. When I received my food I was pleasantly surprised. The food is not as greasy as I've experienced from other takeaway and is delivered exactly when they say it will be. I have a limited tolerance of Indian food and so eat it rarely and usually have similar things so I can only vouch for their chicken dishes, inlcluding the Garlic chicken, the butter chicken and the chicken jalfrezi all of which were flavoursome and tender. Each order usually comes with four free poppadoms with mango chutney, mint raita and onion salad. I bravely ordered the Vindaloo one fateful evening. It isn't the hottest i've eaten but was full of flavour and still packed a punch. Judging by the name I would assume that Westmead only serve Halal meat which makes it suitable for Muslims and non-Muslims, although I can't confirm this. Service is prompt and once you have called once they store your details in an automated phone system so you don;t go through the hassle of describing where you live over and over. Westmead Halal is the only Indian takaway I have used for the last three years.

I fancied a curry and as Paprika, the only other Indian in Ewell Village, didn't display a menu outside, I wandered into Dhansiri. Behind the tinted glass facade is a competent Indian restaurant. I started with a papaddum and onion bhaji, both staples of a British curry house experience and both came through the taste test. For main course, the usual suspects were all listed but my eye was drawn to the Raan-e-guddaz lamb shank, which had been marinated overnight in tomatoes and onion sauce. It wasn't quite fall off the bone soft as described but the meat was very tender and generous. I liked the whole lamb shank being served on the bone as it confirmed that it had been cooked on the bone, which retains a lot of flavour. My mango lassi was adequate, perhaps not quite as full of mango flavour as others I've had. I was offered a free liqueur at the end of the meal. Overall, a solid Indian.
