*** This review is again only for the gym/fitness room of the cepsum and not the entire place (does…read morenot include the various squash, volleyball, etc. Rooms and the courses) Over time, the gym at the cepsum has definitely gotten better. The price is still very decent coming to about 15$ a month if you're a student at HEC, Poly or UdeM and you buy the 1 year subscription. They added a new multi room where TRX courses are taught and there's a bunch of cross fit equipment. Usually, the room is closed, but at certain times, those who are the gym membership have access to that room and can take advantage of the different equipment. The gym is fairly clean and even thought it says to wipe the machines, people don't seem to do it very often. You have to have a towel to get in. That's super important or they will deny you entry. Usually, it's pretty busy after 4pm on the weekdays. Before that and all day during the weekends, there's not too many people. I think the biggest upside to the CEPSUM gym is the proximity to the schools and the student discount. It's definitely not worth it if you don't live close and you're not a student/employee of one of the aforementioned establishments.

For a university student, everything is paid for except the gym. The fees are quite affordable compare to many gyms and the place is not always busy. I never reserved the machine I want. The complain I have is for the gym, there are too many cardio machines and not enough weight machines to go around. Overall, this place is pretty great for a sport enthusiasm. I would even describe this place as a god send for the sports athletes.

Ballers may be interested in private sessions, but I love the groups classes - there's nothing like breaking a good sweat with the rest of the amazing Avengers. In addition, the group classes are max 6 people, so it's still a pretty small, which allows you to have professional feedback along the workout.

I started out with private lessons for a long time, because I was simply intimidated. But Fred's natural charisma and encouragement put me at ease immediately. I progressed and looked forward to going to the studio as often as I could. As a California transplant, I was not prepared for the cold winters and I could not get outside to run as I normally could. So I hunkered down for the winter and did what Fred told me to do. And it was always fun. I mean sometimes it sucked, but in a good way. Fred is always aware of where I am in terms of ability and knows when to push, when to encourage and when to make adjustments. He Then spring rolled around and I ran my maybe 40th half marathon. After not running on my own. I beat my personal time by more than 7 minutes. It was pretty fantastic.

They offer a variety of classes which I have not tried but I am pretty sure they are extremely legit! They have a fabulous steam room and sauna and beautiful showers. As soon as you enter you can see that alot of time and effort went into planning not just the layout and decor but also the quality and functionality of the equipment. It's all brand new.....a completely renovated space with roughly 20,000 sq/ft of facilities including a big and well equipped weight and cardio room as well as boxing, yoga, pilates, spin, crossfit, etc.....everything you need to get fit. Then go relax in the well decorated locker rooms for men and women with showers, steam, sauna, sitting room w/tv, or get a massage. On the way out, grab a smoothie or one of the prepared meals on offer to take home so you don't order Domino's or stop by McDonald's on the way home and then completely negate the intense workout you just had. There are trainers on staff at all times to ensure everyone is getting the proper workout and you always have the option of taking individual or group classes. All the gym equipment was carefully researched and chosen from an Italian company called Technogym. I've been working out there for 3 weeks now and my workouts are better then they've ever been. The machines are very well made and have better range of motion and support for areas like your back then other machines I've used. Also, in our high tech world, the cardio machines (elliptical, bikes, treadmills, etc.) allow you to access the Technogym app to track your workout and accomplishments but also integrate with your Netflix account so you can binge watch all your favorite shows while sweating like an animal. The location is great as well and there is alot of parking all around. It's right behind the Home Depot on St-Jacques, which is great because you can go get your lumber and soil right after your workout.......as one does :) Over he course of many years, I've worked out at the Sanctuaire, Victoria Park, Mansfield Club, and others. B52 got it right, a nice place to workout that has everything you need and most of what you want.......I say most because there is no pool, tennis or squash. If you're looking for a new gym, this is the place.

Éconofitness - After many months, we still have leaky ceilings...

Econofitness is a no-frills gym for the basic membership but it has all I need in a gym. There is an option to get the membership that includes the fitness classes but the difference in price ($5.99 every 2 weeks vs $11.99 every 2 week) was too much for me. I am satisfied with the regular gym membership so far. The gym is rarely very busy so there aren't wait times to use machines. The changing rooms are clean and well maintained. The staff are borderline rude and are not very helpful. Because of the low price, I'm willing to look past this for now. Also, due to renovations, there are some leaks in the ceiling so water has been dripping into bins for the last few weeks. They should probably take care of this. One major complaint that I've heard from a lot of women is in regards to the cameras that are placed around the gym. This gym is for women only, which means that it may attract women who are not comfortable working out in areas where men are present. This can be due to religious reasons or not. Some women who normally feel comfortable working out are uncomfortable with the fact that there are cameras. This is something to consider before joining if this would be a problem for you. If you get the full membership (11.99 every 2 weeks), you have access to a pressure therapy bed, a massage chair, a meditation room, a tanning bed (cancer risk, don't do this!!!), free showers and access to the fitness classes with an instructor. The basic membership, which is what I chose, just includes the gym and fitness classes with a virtual instructor (prerecorded). The charge a lot for showers 1$/3 minutes so it is not worth it to me. Overall, I am satisfied with the changes from Énergie Cardio to Éconofitness. It is a budget gym that does the trick for my student budget. 3.5*

Big changing room and roomy gym. The ceilings are high which let it breathes. And no Econofitness ever had cleaning wipes so I'm not quite sure why people complain although this is an issue that should be addressed in all gyms for sanitary reasons, of course. The least we can do is bring our towel which is in my opinion better than nothing. I actually went from the basic one gym only access to this gym (upgraded my subscription) so I could have my gym closer to me and I regret nothing.
