New review from Nov 2019:…read more This is my second visit here and far more disappointing. The reason is the waiter/owner was grumpy and when I asked for a takeaway box for the moyin moyin he actually scowled! Wow. The moyin moyin is quite flavourful but the jollof rice is a real disappointment. I've had far better in Ghana. Two years ago: I popped into here for lunch around 1:30pm today and whilst the owner could have been friendlier in greeting me (a smile doesn't hurt ya know), I appreciated him coming outside the restaurant to hand me my takeaway food where I had waited in the lovely sun for my order. The interior is quite small with only a couple of tables with lovely African sculptures all around. There is chalkboard of specials along with the regular menu. Sadly the sweet potato balls were sold out so I got the moin moin and the spinach stew. All together less than a tenner. There are four pieces of moin moin, which are just deliciously savoury. I recommend eating them with the nonspicy spinach stew with melon seed, which, whilst not delicious, was tasty and filling. It would be perfect on a cold winter night. If I was in the area, I would return just for the moin moin!

Food - Perfect! I'm not a big Fufu person so I always get the Banku and either Palmnut or Peanut Soup! Yum! They also provide a water dish so you can eat the Banku and soup with your hands! (the traditional way :-D). If you're not too adventurous and want to stick to something more neutral, the Jollof Rice and Tomato Stew is always a safe bet and is delish every time. I think they also have a few Caribbean options too. Culturally, I find Ghanaian food to be on the spicy side, so be careful if you have a weak stomach. Service - Always 100% I think Baba may be the owner and every time I've come over the past 5 years, he's been here and has always been very lovely. Ambience - Great place to come and watch football with the local Ghanaians. It's vibrant and loud, very fun and usually feels like a family atmosphere. Location - Very convenient for South Londoners. Just down the road from Norbury Station, or right at the Tylecroft Road 109 bus stop. OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH: Decor - Really it would be nice for the restaurant to be renovated, but the costs associated with that may be too high at this point. Even still it truly deserves 5 stars. Great find!

When we walked in....this dog lover seen a dog an was excited so I didn't realize the smell that the other two people I was with notice right away. It was a strange smell....that I can't put my nail on. After the dog lover excitement wore off I definitely smelt it. Fast forward we were not able to sit in as the owner stated she was going to close in an hour and 30 minutes and you could only do take away at that time. Was not happy about that but just went along with it. Placed out orders for a veggie platter and made sure the injera was gluten free. Walked next door to take a look while she was preparing our food for take away. Came back and the food was packed and ready. Oh and just a heads up they do take card and cash. If you have a US card her machine does take it even if she states she doesn't think it will. I did it and she was shocked lol. Food is packed and we leave. After getting back to our rooms and opening the food...that smell I was speaking about in the beginning we can all smell again. It was a unbearable smell that made it extremely difficult to eat the food. I was able to eat the injera and it really smelled and taste (maybe in my head) like the smell. I ate the veggies and even though it had a slight smell I was able to complete that but the injera was a BIG NO! All in all we could not figure out the smell. The owner was a sweet lady, but I wished she wouldn't have told us to take away as it took away from the experience. I wish I was able to give 5 stars like most folks...but I have to be honest with my experience.

Kokeb is the perfect example of a spot I would have never found without Yelp! Lost in the middle of an unknown neighbourhood (at least to me), Kokeb's street isn't precisely the busiest when it comes to restaurants. 18 amazing reviews and great Yelper pictures convinced me...and oh my this was a great lunch. I wanted to go for the lamb but Genetesh advised me to pick the N°21, "Spicy" beef with 1 injera and a local ethiopian beer to get it all down...perfect combo. Kokeb is all-in-one. Excellent ethiopian food comes together with the local decor & music...and Genetesh is there help you feel welcome, relaxed, at home...she'll also help you out if this is your first ethiopian experience (bye bye fork, hello right hand). Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the Kenkey and Tilapia. For those who don't know, Ghanian food tends to be eaten with your hands. Kenkey is kind of like a "dough", so you can use it to grab food. Kind of like using mashed potateoes to pick up food; kind of weird, but it works. So if you want to try something different, I'd recommend it. Super cheap relatively speaking, as well, but you get what you pay for - this place kind of looks like a restaurant in Africa.
