I used to love the Lagoon when I was a teenager! Every weekend I would don one of my many pairs of fluorescent colored jeans, as was the style at the time (the green were my faves!) and head down to the Lagoon ice rink with my friends. There used to be a huge queue outside of spotty adolescents dying to get in so that they could hang around the edge of the ice rink but not actually do any skating, while the DJ (yes an actual DJ) played a selection of 90s dance hits.
"Groove is in the heaaa-aaarrt."
"We are the children of the night. We fight for the future of our nation."
"Rhythm is a dancer. It's a source of passion."
"Everybody's freeeeeee to feel good."
And so on. We really did think we were the coolest things out at the time. Sigh, those were the days. I was devastated to hear that the ice rink is no more and instead it has been replaced with a sort of sports hall type thing where you can play and watch racket and team sports. There is also a gym but it is perma-mobbed so I don't use it anymore. The pool is quite good fun. It has a section for doing lengths but there is also a wave machine and what can very loosely be described as a flume.
You can also have beauty treatments at the Lagoon although I have never sampled any myself. There are loads of really fun fitness classes such as street dancing, belly dancing, vibe cycle and loads of martial arts style classes.
While I will never get over the loss of the ice rink of my youth, I do think the Lagoon has come a long way in the past few years and is a great place for anyone who wants to get a bit fitter as there is so much on offer at a reasonable price. read more
