Do you have the tendency to face Mecca five times a day?…read moreThen you would appreciate Roshan's. It is one of the only Halal friendly food outlets in the Mall. I like a good curry, in turn I like Roshan's. Which if you didn't gather, makes a good curry. I don't remember the names of what I have tried, it is not because of lack of sensitivity, but more so because I sadly have not eaten there for some time. It makes me sad and I shall now endeavour to eat there again. It's the first to your left when entering the food court from the mall entrance.

So of course, I headed straight to the David Jones Food Court! While this initially sounds exciting, you have to lower all high expectations...because this place ain't all that great. At least Roshans cut the time of my hunt for Indian food. I have been here so many times, going all the way back to senior high school when I was just 17, so I can definitely say that my taste has significantly changed since then. I must say - today I wasn't very impressed. Roshans does serve other Asian food, as well as traditional Indian food, but something has definitely changed about their 'Butter Chicken', which used to be my lunchtime favourite. Today, it tasted more like a really badly done Satay chicken, rather than that buttery taste I used to love. I was literally spitting out parts back onto my plate, it was that bad. What's happened here? Did they change their chef or ingredients for the worse? Did some customers complain about the awesome taste, that they had to water it down? I dunno, but I was so disappointed today. Luckily i had their teriyaki chicken as a second choice, to rescue me from my hunger pangs. Maybe next time it's actually half decent. For now, I am not content after this bad Indian food experience and now I have to find another place I can go to enjoy better Indian food that my stomach craves for! Overall: If you got nowhere else to go for lunch - this is rock bottom of my list of lunch spots! Why oh why, you used to be so good. I would like an explanation and hope for future improvement.

A saving grace for Malaysians and Singaporeans away from home!…read more In the 17 years I've lived in Adelaide, the only way I could have REAL satay was to make it myself. Thankfully, there is now Papparich. Whilst many Malaysians and Singaporeans from states like NSW and Vic say that it's "not the best", I say, beggars can't be choosers and when you really have a hankering for proper roti and satay, this is it. 1) The menu is all authentic. It's not been diluted or modified to cater to the western palate like many Asian restaurants. 2) I can sit in there, close my eyes and the accents I hear, I am brought back to any eatery in Malaysia or Singapore, except that it's not hot and humid. 3) I haven't given it 5-stars because ... I wish there was the Nonya style of laksa and the Singapore-style of Char Kuay Teow. Every other dish, Singapore has a version of, and I'm quite happy with what is there. 4) The prices whilst not the prices one would get in Malaysia and Singapore, won't break your pocket either. For me, the must-try is the Satay. If you've never had Satay in Malaysia and Singapore, you have to try it here. You will never order "chicken satay" as an entree elsewhere again. So far, I have tried the Nasi Lemak. Though I would like for the rice to be more lemak, it's probably better for the waistline that it's not as fragrant with coconut as it should be. The Nasi Lemak comes with different types of meat but the condiments are all the same. I wish there was one with fried fish ... perhaps like a Tommy Ruff which is closest to the herring or mackerel that is included in most packed Nasi Lemaks you'd find on the street or in hawker centres. I usually order the Nasi Lemak with an extra serve of the Sambal Ikan Bilis as I prefer that. The steamed chicken with various styles of noodles is a great meal. I had the Dry Hor Fun (flat rice noodles served with a gravy and not in a soup). It comes with a good serve of blanched bean sprouts and the steamed Hainanese-style Chicken is clean and tender. Really, I think the chicken is poached. There is a dish on the menu that is Deep Fried Chicken Skin ... I want to try it ... but I'm thinking I might go into cholesterol-arrest! They do not take reservations and the minimum for EFTPOS is $20.

Can confidently say that i am glad we did. Let me start with the excellent service - we showed up at this restaurant 20 minutes before closing time and were welcomed with warm smiles and a simple yet friendly atmosphere. In our starving desperation, we shamelessly ordered an outrageous amount of food (double what was needed), all the while thinking surely this must be the friendly owners worst nightmare when they were clearly closing up shop. However instead of doubling over in cardiac arrest, the little man behind the counter nodded encouragingly and recommended appropriate sides. The meal was mostly prepared before us with the chicken and lamb skewers cooked to perfection over charcoal and the rice, salad and bread prepared in the back. Everything was served warm within half an hour. I have enjoyed Afghan Cuisine at several different restaurants, including much better known establishments and can say that the food served here definitely stood its own in terms of authenticity and deliciousness. Yes, definitely enjoyed every bite, from the succulent charcoaled chicken chunks down to the fluffiest rice i have ever tasted. All the while the owner kept checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. Stomachs full we mentally prepared for what we thought would be a wallet destroying bill. Instead our minds were pleasantly blown by how cheap the bill was and infact went back to confirm that he had charged us the right amount for everything we ordered. So there you have folks - Excellent Service, Amazing food and Awesome prices. It doesnt get better than that.

Then the delivery driver called to say he's at our door but the lady doesn't want the food and where are we. He was in a suburb 30 minutes away. The Food arrived completely cold but, the temperature wasn't even the main complaint. The food had no flavour, looked like half eaten left overs and stunk, pretty much a dogs breakfast. So if you have a spare 2.5 hours and would like to eat a cold dogs breakfast I would recommend this to you, If not stay away. Since it was like a dogs breakfast i I tried to give some of it to my dog but, he spat it out and went out in the garden and ate some grass instead.

I tried other dishes like Nasi goreng, Beef rib soup and Hainanese rice--my husband's favorite -- and they are consistently delicious (generous servings too). I highly recommend this Malaysian fastfood. Actually, their place and meal presentation looks highly appealing that you couldnt help but get drawn to it even just to take a quick look at their menu. If there's one thing that I dont find impressive is the customer service...many times they just look unfriendly. My husband for eg. Asked one staff if he can grab more tissues. Instead of saying a simple 'yes' (or no lol), the girl in a quite condescending tone said "it's in front of you".... Man! My hubby was silently pissed off. He even swore to himself not to eat there again. Actually we havent come back after that incident but it wasnt really intentional, we just wanted to try other restos. Sometimes he still mentions his craving for their Beef ribs and Hainanese rice. Im sure we'll eat there again in the future. Like he said we are there for the food not for the people. Lol

Fish Head's menu focuses on more Indian, Indonesian and Malay cuisines with hint of Singaporean, the huge emphasis on the fish head curry which is also their namesake. Unfortunately, we did not sample this dish this time, to my regret as I learn that they serve it two ways; 1) with the head it all its glory and 2) fish meat only in its signature curry sauce. Never mind, another excuse to pop back in, especially as the weather is getting colder. Done away with the tea cups and saucers as light fittings, it is replaced with more sleek lighting. You cannot miss the massive mural of a fish on the right upon entering. The very low lighting might put some diners off, especially those with challenging eyesight. Staff are still learning the menu, but is super friendly, big tick there! Food ordered includes satay mix, spinach and cottage cheese, twice cooked duck and otak otak (grilled fish wrapped in banana leaf). We share the yellow rice between the two of us. Every thing was delicious, except for the spinach and cottage cheese curry. It tasted as unappetizing as it looks - refer pics. Some part of the duck was a tad dry, however, the flavours was delightful. The satays which included chicken, pork and veal served with a tasty peanut sauce was lovely, might be a little bit small for some. The banana wrapped fish was really really good. The fish was not overcooked and the sauce had a spicy tang to it. Apart from their teething problems, I believe this might become a popular destination in Chinatown.

While the name raises eyebrows, the food is pleasing and don't worry, there is only ONE dish on the menu that you can choose to have served with the fish head. Like the famous Curry Fish Head in Malaysia. That brings me to the cuisine. It's Indo-Malay-Indian. A blend of flavours from these countries that focus heavily on spices and herbs to create well balanced rich flavours. Tonight we had the Soft Shell Crab, Otakotak, Beef Naan, Crispy Pork Belly, Twice Cooked Duck and Beef Cheeks. Soft Shell Crab was crispy and well seasoned but the salad it came with was my favourite. I just wanted more and more of that tangy dressed salad. The other dishes were richer and sweeter so it was perfect for countering that and resetting the palate. All the meats were very tender, the duck and beef cheek curries both had lovely flavours. I would say the dishes here are very much on the sweet side, if they could pull that back a little the other flavours will have a chance to shine through better. I have to mention that the OtakOtak is not OtakOtak like it is in Malaysia. Instead it is a fillet of fish topped with a sambal like paste and steamed in banana leaf. If you are looking for a taste of home or authentic otakotak this is not it. Otherwise, all the other dishes were thumbs up. Lastly we made room for dessert. Mango Panacotta, Pandan Coconut Crepes and Coconut Sticky Rice served in a coconut with fresh coconut flesh and coconut ice cream. They were all delicious and fragrant. I think it offers something that the area doesn't have, probably not anywhere in the city. I wish them all the best, I personally would return.

Some friends and I stopped by on our way home from the beach after rejecting the Grange Fish and Chips store's thirty minute wait for a serve of medium chips. My friend bought a corn version of a chiko rolls with a kind of creamed corn substance inside, which despite my hatred of corn separated from the cob, I quite enjoyed. But hey, when something is fried until all the nutrients have disappeared, sometimes you can't help but enjoy it. They also stock Arizona ice tea - one of the best ice teas around. Cute label too. The interior of the store is as characteristic as the exterior - the counter is decorated with money from all around the world and the metal pizza oven has Fel-Fella magnets arranged to spell Fel-Fella. Someone musta been bored that day. The service was a little on the inconsistent side, I got served straight away, but my friend was standing at the counter for ten minutes before someone spoke to her.
