“One of my favorite things about the club is the view of Lake Minnetonka and that the swimming pool is never crowded.”

She was pleasant and friendly over the phone when I made our room reservation. I will say most of the B & B's I've enjoyed, was partially because we had a chance to get to know the owners a bit and see how passionate they were about making a great B & B experience for everyone who stayed with them. So, maybe I've just been spoiled a bit by the extent of the services and amenities others offer, but that's my comparison. What this place does have going for it, is it's location. However depending on where your room is, you'll hear the traffic noise as this is located on a busy street. Also, the fact that there isn't really much else around lodging accommodations limits your choices for this area. There is private parking for guests. The room was clean and comfortable. It was lacking the extra little touches that many travelers have come to appreciate from bed & breakfast operators-shampoo, blower dryer, complementary water or soda, glassware or plasticware instead of dixie cups in the room. Self service coffee, tea and microwave popcorn was available in the dining area. For the price of the rooms, the little extra touches might have helped.

But hey, our hosts were relaxed and friendly, and the folks we sat down with to breakfast had fun stories to tell. The rooms are idiosyncratic but charming. The bathrooms: just idiosyncratic, but they worked. Breakfasts on the weekends were more elaborate and tasty, and on weekdays simpler but adequate. I get the feeling this may vary with the number of guests. The Birdhouse is on a "busy" intersection which is no big deal because Excelsior is a pretty quiet little town; and a charming one. You are a walk away from good shops and restaurants. You are a very short walk from Lake Minnetonka and its activities. The Porch and grounds are delightful. If you get the right weather for it, lazing outside could be a delicious experience, with an elevated view of the neighborhood. Of course, getting bearable weather (not too many mosquitoes, not too much heat and humidity, not 5 degrees below zero, can take scheduling and luck. In the winter, I imagine the large parlor would be very inviting. So a point off for the various weird bathrooms, which were all functional but awkward, but all in all, I will be staying there again, the next time I visit relatives.

We decided to try Birch's on the Lake for Restaurant Week. My wife ordered one of the options…read morewhich was Roasted Cauliflower Gratin with Gruyere, Truffle Oil, Parmesan, Shallots, and Cream. She said that it was one of the best versions she has ever had. For a main course, she ordered the Short Ribs with Mashed Potatoes, Baby Carrots, Peas, Cippolini Onions, and Horseradish Cream. She said it was excellent, but could only eat about half of it. She also ordered one of the house-brewed beers and I agree that it was fresh, cold, and excellent. I ordered from the regular menu and had the Barbequed Chicken with BBQ sauce, roasted corn, spicy Fresno peppers, red onion, 4 cheese blend, chili lime crema ($21). It was HUGE and I could only eat half of it, but it was excellent. Kind of spicy and kind of sweet, but overall balanced flavor. And very tasty! This left us with a dilemma. My wife's Restaurant Week menu also came with dessert, but we were stuffed. However, they packed up the Chocolate Stout Cake with salted caramel buttercream, Sebastian Joe's vanilla bean ice cream, and warm fudge sauce. I thought it was overly sweet, but it had good flavor. The view from the windows at Birch's Lake is unsurpassed. There is a great view of the lake and the shore had beautiful trees that were in full autumn colors. I am sure that this view is impressive in all four seasons. The service was excellent. We went relatively early and the restaurant had plenty of room (we had reservations). However, even though it was a Tuesday night, by the time we left, the place was packed. The only reason I didn't give this place five stars was that the menu didn't have the variety of items I was hoping for. It seems like there are more options over the weekend, so I recommend checking out the menu online before you come. And be sure to make a reservation!

So we arrived a little grumpy and decided on eating out on the deck over looking long lake…read more Immediately felt the Mood change ordered the Grouper tacos. Bursting with flavor grilled to perfection. So good ordered them again. Thanks Blaine for the good service.

The Hotel Landing is a great place to host an event, work lunch, conference, meetings or an event!…read more One event was in the main lobby- small but fit plenty of vendors and the event room was a good size with a PowerPoint - served alcohol and NA options! Parking: free after 6pm, valet available, street parking - have to pay up until 6pm (2-3hr parking) Food: steak, chicken with pesto and potatoes with asparagus - everything was delicious! My steak was medium well- would have loved well done but it was part of the event so I can't complain! Dessert: the tray of dessert was good! Tirimisu (I've had better), cannoli - tasty and light, Lemon tart was definitely a hit I enjoyed two events there and it was a great experience! Staff were nice!

I've stayed in several luxury hotels, 4 seasons being one of them with way more accommodations for the price. Champagne upon arrival, champagne in our room very attentive staff etc. they do however have complimentary bike rentals which was a very fun surprise, we took a little stroll around, it's great being near so many restaurants walking distance. There was also a shuttle driver so that was a great addition. Our room service however took over 50 minutes to arrive.. we didn't get waters which I feel is a typical thing to provide with room service and my coffee arrived cold. we wanted late check out , they offered an additional hour and if we wanted any longer than that it would be an additional $75. No thank you. I too feel very out of place here in wayzata, so I don't know if it's a town I'd keep on my radar for future stays.
