This is a sweet little spot to share an afternoon tea. The service is outstanding and they offer each course with a complete tea service. We didn't have to decide, they just give you the pairing and you can have more of what you love . Everything was very tasty and they never rushed us along. A great memory made with my daughter on her visit to the city.

If you know me, you know that I love a good tea service. When I was coming out to New York, I knew that I wanted to come get tea and asked some of my friends who live locally where I should go. Lady Mendl's was VERY suggested to me and it did not disappoint. The coconut oolong tea was

What a cute little experience! My friend Ioves the ambiance at this place and sold me on the experience. While I enjoy tea, I was hesitant about the $89 price tag per person, and probably would have skipped it without her praises. After experiencing my first tea salon in NYC (!), I have to say I quite enjoyed it. I felt like we took a little trip to Europe and had a delightful two+ hour lunch without a care in the world. The brownstone salon felt intimate and special, and we were able to catch up properly with all of the cozy feels. In the beginning, the courses/selections feel miniature and you wonder if you will ever feel satiated. However, everything starts to add up when consumed with the tea pairings. To kick it off, we had a choice of soup or salad. We were very pleased with our watermelon chili gazpacho. It was fresh with a little kick. Delightful! Moved on to the sandwich bites --a wonderful two tiered selection on different breads. The smoked salmon and avocado were standouts for me, as well as the squash topping on one of the bites. Then my absolute favorite course...the scones! Perfectly warm-- two kinds: cranberry and plain. The lemon cream spread was to die for. There were also a choice of jams, but I did not look that way after I tasted the cream. This course was followed by a slice of cheesecake. I thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate one, though there was also banana option. It was fluffy and felt light. To cap it off, the final course was a selection of mostly macaroons (I tend to dislike macaroons so I skipped this course). In terms of the tea, we took advantage of the complimentary tea pairing per course, so I tasted all but the rooibos. I was concerned with the Moroccan mint tea because I don't like sweetened tea, but to my surprise it was very mild (not sweet at all?) and wonderful. They do have sugar and ginger on the table as an additive and a palate cleanser. My favorite tea was the coconut oolong tea. Really paired well with the scones and beyond. If tea is not your thing, there are cocktails ($18+) and mocktails, but it is a tea salon after all so would recommend you give it a go! All and all, this was a great experience. While I may not be tickled to do it again in the short term, I wouldn't hesitate if invited. Sorry I was too busy being present to take photos! One last thing-- check your bill. I absolutely always tip at least 20% , but don't appreciate receiving bills with tip suggested after tax, especially when the suggested tip starts much higher here.

This was a beautiful discovery, I have had a number of teas in New York over the years, but none like this. From the outside you wouldn't know how lush and colorful the inside is, which makes it feel even more special. We made a reservation in advance on Open Table, and the menu is multi-course and pre-set. In terms of tea choice, you can choose one tea to have throughout or they can pair it for you and it changes with each course they bring out. It started with the option of soup or salad, followed by tea sandwiches that they bring in from Green Market. The sandwiches were my favorite part of the whole menu, they had some sweet and savory options and they were extremely flavorful! The scones served with lemon curd, preserves, and cream were good, but very standard, as were the two cake options. Unfortunately, my least favorite part of the menu was the petit fours at the end. The macarons and chocolate were a bit underwhelming but the chocolate strawberry saved it. Honestly, I could have eaten just a plate of 2-3 chocolate strawberries and called it a day! The service was attentive, they were warm and welcoming. The ambience was dreamy, I know they also do small events and private parties and if I lived closer I would absolutely love to do something there. It has been beautifully restored! I am obsessed with the wallpapers and the crown molding, the delicate patterned china. Overall, it is somewhere I would likely return to, I just wish that for the price that they might elevate their petit fours to the same level as the sandwiches.

100% coming back here with family, a date or with friends. We originally had a reservation at a different tea place but that didn't work out. Luckily, I had this gem bookmarked. You are welcomed in at coat check ( leave a tip!) Then you are seated. This is a much better experience than at some pricier hotel teas. Service is friendly and excellent. The aesthetic here is phenomenal. Feels like you are transported and I truly enjoyed the entire experience along with looking at how pretty it is in here. There are refills with the teas. You might be stuffed when the petite fours come out but we ate almost everything. The scones and butter cream were divine and the cake was rich but not heavy so that worked out! Presentation was lovely and the plates and tea cups were pretty. I recommend the 5-course afternoon tea which is what we got.

I did afternoon tea service here with the tea pairing. This place is beautiful inside with its wall paper and table set up (each having a different china design set). From the second you walk in- this type of Parlour is what you imagine/would see on tv. The food service was delicious from start to finish. The scones came out hot and the sandwiches ranged from classic to creative. I was impressed with the butternut squash crostini one. The dessert was a slice of crepe cake or red velvet with petit fours to finish the meal. This place is a GEM & should definitely be on your list to check out.

Lovely tea room with their mismatched furniture and tea services. Wonderful relaxing tea with no need to rush. Valeria was amazing. From the moment we arrived she welcomed us with a smile and her tea knowledge. We had the tea pairings for each course. Vegetarian forward sandwiches highlighted by butternut squash crustini with goat cheese. We had the Lady M crepe cake. No room for the macaroons so we took them home. A must for a traditional tea in Manhattan. Thanks, Valeria for making it special

My sister and I got tea here for her birthday and everything was phenomenal! Going in I thought the price was a little steep but after the experience I can say it was totally worth it! It is a 5 course prix fixe menu and you can either select a pot of tea or do a tea pairing with each course. We did the tea pairing so we could try multiple and they were all delicious and pairs very well with the food. We were also offered a glass of champagne, a mimosa, or a Bellini. The food was soooo good, I usually can eat much of a prix fixe menu as a vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised that there was only one item of the entire meal I couldn't eat (it was a salmon tea sandwich, but my sister enjoyed them so it was not wasted). All of the food was fresh and had great flavor. The scones were some of the best I've ever had. We were so full by the time we left and had so many cups of tea. The service was amazing everyone was so kind, they even put a candle in one of the dishes for my sister. The space is beautiful and eclectic in the best way! This place is such a gem and the perfect afternoon tea stop in Manhattan! I already can't wait to go back next time I'm in the city.

Great spot for a cute afternoon tea. The china is whimsical and pretty, the teas are good (good flavor, not too potent), and the service is friendly and attentive. The food (started, sandwiches, scones, cake, petit fours) are all tasty and filling. Highly recommend for a leisurely weekend activity.

My friend and I visited Lady Mendl's for an afternoon prix fixe tea experience. From what I know, this tea, experience is one of the best in the city, and a great little getaway activity to do with your girlfriends. This tea salon is located in a beautiful bed and breakfast on the ground floor. An unassuming flight of stairs leads you in to an entryway, with large wooden doors. If you aren't paying attention to the small plaque on the outside wall it's very easy to miss this place. Upon first entering, you are immediately transported to a Victorian drawing room. Everything from the sofas, wallpapers, carpets, light fixtures, and cutlery are reminiscent of British aesthetic. I love the mismatched, teacup and plates, it definitely adds some sort of character. We were given the option to sample all sorts of teas throughout the five course experience and that was wonderful. The tea experience starts off with soup, which I think can be offered in a little bit of a bigger serving. The soup itself was delicious, I believe it was a potato and leek soup. Next is the sandwiches, which I liked, but they definitely left something to be desired. I found the cucumber sandwiches to be a little stale, the pumpkin purée and marble rye sandwiches were too sweet. Egg salad was OK. I think for a tea experience, I was expecting sandwiches to be exceptional, and they missed the mark for me in taste, and freshness. I also do believe that they should be mostly savory, with proper seasoning and fresh ingredients. The crêpe cake course was good, we chose the tiramisu and were not disappointed, although I do think a bit more cocoa and coffee would have done the trick. The scone course was my absolute favorite, these were served hot with all the accompaniments one would need. I really was impressed by how delicious the scones were, and we were given two each, which I think is just the right amount. The little cake pieces, and macarons at the end were a little forgettable. The cake with the strawberry cream was delicious, but the other one I didn't care for. Macarons were also average. Service was OK, our server in the beginning was very attentive, but tea service was a little slow, I had to repeatedly ask to have my cup refilled or rinsed out. I do highly recommend coming here and trying their tea experience, even though I feel there is some room for improvement, the overall experience and the aesthetic of the place was absolutely worth it.

What a one of a kind experience! A beautiful brownstone from the outside, but a tastefully decorated, warm, and inviting tea salon on the inside. I am truly obsessed. For the price, you get all the tea you can drink along with five courses that may sound small, but are so filling we ended up taking some home. Went with my sisters and would now take any women I was in the city with to experience this. The waitresses were so knowledgeable and encouraged great tea suggestions!

Came here with my high tea club for a nice, fancy high tea experience. Lady Mendl offers something unique that other places usually don't, which is a tea pairing option. This lets you try every tea on the menu in order as you get each course so that you can try them all. I love this idea! And I appreciated that this did not cost any extra. Overall, I thought the food here was really nice! I loved the sandwiches, especially the butternut squash, cinnamon raisin, and the egg salad. I also looooved the crepe cake and the scones. The gazpacho, salad, and small desserts were kind of meh but the strong parts of the experience were quite solid. I also enjoyed the various teas, especially the red tea with chocolatey notes (cannot remember what it was called). On to the negatives, though. Overall, we had to flag folks down for refills or milk a bit too often. The servers were all super nice but for a relatively small location, they struggled to keep up. Especially for me who did the tea pairing, I often had to wave my hand to ask for my next course. Not a huge problem, but something to work on. The main issue, however, was that there ended up being a mouse skittering around in the fireplace a mere foot or two from where we were sitting. This kind of soured the experience and one of my friends immediately got up to get out. I do feel bad writing it here and I know the staff handled it right away (and even gave us 25% off), but I do have to mention it just out of honesty. I'm sure it was a one-off accident though, and if they invest in pest control it shouldn't happen again (hopefully!). Overall, I do still think it's worth checking out! Our experience wasn't the best but I do think we got unlucky. I can tell the staff are kind and care about giving folks a good experience, so I would probably still cautiously recommend it.

Lady Mendl's definitely deserves its rating as a top choice for afternoon tea service. At an affordable $78 per person you are able to participate in all of the offerings of the prixe fixe. Alcoholic beverages, wine and pastries are offered a la carte with additional costs. However, the price fixe menu contains more than enough to be satisfied. Upon walking up the steps to enter, you notice the tea cup signage and open the door to the unexpected. A few steps to the right leads to the waiting room, where the hostess greets you and let's you settle in before taking you to your table. The dining room is quaint and cozy allowing for a myriad of table configurations which held about 15 or so tables. The tea service begins immediately upon confirming your choices for prixe fixe. You can choose pairings or to try all of the options as you navigate the service. The staff was extremely polite, attentive, informative and ready to take a photo as needed. Interestingly enough, Lady Mendls used to host a burlesque show (but they don't anymore), and now the upstairs facilities are used as hotel rooms. Four stars only due to the obvious water damage in the corner of the dining room ceiling and it seemed a number of glasses and tea cups were accidentally dropped that day which was a bit jarring. This aside I can certainly see why Lady Mendls continues to thrive in Gramercy Park during modern times. Go check it out and dress up if you can!

And I commonly see the upstairs for private events like baby showers, bridal showers, or birthday parties on social media. After dinner with my friends, I was looking for dessert and I was glad to see this location closes relatively late on a weekday night at 11 pm. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a waiter who led us to one of the purple velvet chair booths that was perfect for two people and another waiter brought us a pitcher of water almost immediately. The menu is on a QR code already on the table and we were given ample of time to decide. My friend and I both already knew what we wanted to order. I got the purple Yam Souffle which takes 25 minutes to make and my friend got the fried squid tails. We also got a signature Rose Green Milk Tea to share. The waitress who took our order has great memory and recalled all of our items without writing it down. She also reminded me that I could adjust the ice and sugar levels of my drink which I had completely forgotten and would have got annoyed if my drink came out 100% sweetness. Another thing is that my drink order frequently comes out wrong at other locations so I was glad she got it right! Green tea instead of black tea and with milk instead of without milk. The purple Yam Souffle is just like the other locations. Hot, soft cakey texture balanced with an ice cold red bean Ice-Cream. So delicious! The squid tails on the other hand was not what we expected. It came out burnt and hard. The outer batter was not crispy either. We informed one of the waiters and he brought it back to inform the kitchen staff. We received a new batch that was not as burnt and had more flavoring this time around. However, the squid was still hard and not like the ones we get from other locations with smaller crispier pieces. Overall, it was still a good experience and I love the decorations at this location! This might be my second favorite location after the Flushing one. Would love to come back for brunch or hi-tea. Or regular food options when I have not already eaten dinner. My usual go-tos are the twister fries, Santa Fe chicken rolls, fried salted crispy chicken, and the trio dessert combo. However, this location has a lot more variety! FYI - there are two unisex restrooms in the rear for customers to use with really cute wallpapers too.

We ordered potted rose milk tea to share, Dubai affogato and Brown Sugar Boba Mille Crêpes Cake. We came on a Friday around 4pm. Originally I wanted to try the strawberry matchamisu, however, was told that it sold out. What a bummer. The rose milk tea came with a themed pot and cups which is really cute. The rose fragrant smelled so good and the milk tea also tasted good and has a hint of rose taste. The cake was good, the boba was well cooked, chewy and flavorful! This time there was an unpleasant experience. At first when the Dubai affogato was served, we did not realize that the amount of the coffee was little until we saw another customer's dish that the volume of their coffee looked significantly more than ours. My friend brought it to the waitress attention but the waitress brushed it off and did not acknowledge our concern. When we finished and were about to leave, the same waitress came over and showed us that the container of the coffee was different and hence the volume of the coffee looked different. At this point, we did not care for it anymore. We would have been fine if the staff acknowledged our concern. We thought that maybe using standardized containers for the coffee would avoid this problem. Other than that, the food and drinks were good.

I opted for an iced, unsweetened matcha latte. After placing your order, you receive a number and wait for it to pick it up at the counter. After a few minutes, my order was ready. The latte was great without any sweetener, really letting the flavor of the matcha shine through. Although I'm no expert, the flavor, color, and consistency of the matcha all indicated to me that it was made with a good quality powder. It seems Nana's specializes in green tea, so I'd totally stop here for a more authentic experience than getting matcha from places that focus on coffee or are simply trendy matcha spots.
