Butterflies floating and gliding all around me with a good book was precisely what I needed. Later, I headed down one of the paths and came to an area with a big beautiful bird feeder set up in a shaded, tucked away area and a lady asked me if I would like to help fill the feeder. I was honored. She explained she was with Friends of Fredericksburg and they are often out there restocking the feeders for their feathery friends. She mentioned their website and I can't wait to research more about them and their events. I will have to venture back that way soon to check out more of the trails and scenery.

It's an extremely zen and tranquil space that brought us such harmony on our visit. It's as though you're able to breathe and relax without a care in the world whilst walking this lovely oasis. Everything is meticulous from the koi pond to the raked gravel. The grounds seem to have brought us so much peace and balance as we took it all in. If visiting Fredericksburg, it's a must-see. Travis P Trail Rides in Blanco, TX exceeded our expectations for a fun afternoon horse back. Travis himself is a hilarious and knowledgeable guide that takes great photos! I especially loved the little handmade leather satchels he provides for your belongings while you ride. I was also pleasantly surprised at the affordable rate ($40/pp for an hour ride). Not to mention the horses were all beautiful and clearly well taken care of. The experience was intimate as my family of three was the only group there at the time but I could see Travis P's being fun for larger groups and/or parties. I wish we lived locally so I could ride here all the time. Thanks for your hospitality, your infinite humor, and all of the memories Travis. They will not soon be forgotten.

There's a nice long loop around the base of the rock top hike and there's the summit hike. The summit hike is the one that draws the crowds. On this occasion we opted to do the loop. The weather was pleasant, but got warm fast. There's not much shade, so prepare accordingly- sunscreen, hats, water. The trail is peaceful and quaint. We didn't see very many hikers or wildlife. The hike is relatively easy, until it isn't. At one point, I really thought we must have turned off the trail. We were down to single file, rocky terrain. I didn't remember this part of the trail so I'm memorializing my trauma now. Luckily, I was with a supportive and helpful partner who lead the way and helped me when I needed. Once we got passed that stretch of terror, we were home free! And then we had to traverse the parking lot clear to the other side. Come to find out, there's two ways to start the loop. Pro tip, park somewhere in the middle to trick yourself into feeling like the end doesn't last forever. Sign me up to go back on the winter!

The park protects the birthplace, home, ranch, and grave of Lyndon B. Johnson, 36th president of…read morethe United States. During Johnson's administration, the LBJ Ranch was known as the Texas White House because the President spent approximately 20% of his time in office there. Johnson donated the ranch in his will to the public to form the park, with the provision that it "remain a working ranch." You can see his birthplace home, school house, the cemetary where he and his family are buried, the show stables, his prized Hereford cows, and even his downsized "Airforce one-Half" Across the street at the state park you can see the home and building of the Johnson's neighbors, the Sauer--Beckmanns in the living history farm area. There is also a bison herd and longhorns on the property.

It was disappointing not to be able to tour one of the site's main attractions, but there was still plenty to see and enjoy. One of the highlights was driving through the grounds and surrounding area. The route was scenic and offered a nice look at the Texas Hill Country. We also saw lots of cows along the way, which added to the charm and made the drive feel like a genuine Texas experience. Even without access to the Texas White House, I found the site worth visiting. The combination of history, open landscapes, and the relaxed driving tour made for an enjoyable stop. I would recommend it, though visitors should check ahead to see whether any areas are closed for renovation.
