Out of the different flavors we ordered, the lemon, pistachio, and raspberry were by far our favorites. The least favorite was vanilla because it was ultra sweet. Almond was unique and tasty. Pop in and grab some for yourself or to take home as a gift; just be sure to buy them. A day before flying out if you're taking them as a gift, so they're as fresh as possible.

Since we had a late breakfast, we wanted to just sit down and have the macarons and maybe a drink. We came in on a Friday at 1 and were led to the upstairs dining room, which had a lot of charm. It's definitely for tourists because everyone else around us were tourists too, which I didn't mind. We ordered four macarons - Marie-Antoinette Tea, Pistachio, Raspberry, and Orange Blossom. The pistachio and raspberry were pretty standard. Orange blossom was good. My favorite was the Marie-Antoinette Tea. It was so good, I wish I bought some from the shop downstairs. You could actually taste the tea flavor in it. The pistachio milkshake was too sweet, especially with the macarons. Should have opted for a latte or something with less/no sugar. I'm sure there are tons of other macaron places that are just as good as Laduree but the dining area at this location and the presentation is just very pretty.

But if you haven't, this is a strong contender for worthy macarons in Paris and at a convenient location across the street from Ladurée. Located inside L'Occitane in the most gorgeous floor space ever, you will find Pierre Hermé at the center of it all. They have an impressive array of flavors that were much more unique than other patisseries. I definitely asked for a few recommendations as well since I tend to order the same thing (pistachio, raspberry, lemon, etc.) The workers were very kind. They indulged my request to converse in French and corrected me in a respectful and endearing way (I know some people get upset at this idea but I personally prefer it.) I had ordered a dozen macarons but truthfully would've ordered the entire lot if I wasn't alone and especially if I wasn't already taking a ton of sweets back for my flight home. I am a Ladurée purist and what I can say is that Pierre Hermé definitely had the best and most unique flavors compared to the two. The prices are fairly comparable and the coffrets are just as tasteful. Both are strong contenders and worthy of your money. As a popular macaron shop in one of the hottest tourist destinations in Paris, this location is undeniably crowded. There's usually a huge line circling around a central display of macaron after macaron. The line looks pretty intimidating, but it moves quite quickly, and there are so many flavors that it'll probably be helpful to have a bit of extra time to review the menu. My friend and I split a pack of four macarons, including their seasonal isapahan (rose, lychee, raspberry), infiniment praliné pistache, and a jardin de cassandre (red currant, rhubarb). The macarons were delightful. I loved the two seasonal items; they were delightfully fruity and slightly floral, and I loved the slightly tangy flavor from the raspberry in the isapahan and rhubarb / currants in the jardin de cassandre. The praliné pistache was nice and nutty, and the inner cream offered a great additional richness. It's usually super crowded so seating tends to be quite limited. My friend and I ended up taking our macarons to go and enjoyed them elsewhere as we toured Champs Elysée.

To be fair, they did also sell artisan chocolate and cookies, but the éclairs were obviously the bread and butter of the shop. The éclairs at L'Éclair de Génie were stunning, and it was hard to just choose one or a few to try. One that particularly stood out to me was an éclair that looked like it was spray painted in a shiny bronze color. (By the way this particular éclair was amazing.) I ended up getting a box of mini éclairs for 35€. 3,50€ per mini was a bit pricey considering that I've seen full-sized éclairs for the same price or even cheaper at other places. The éclairs were overall great. I tried every one but the lemon flavor, and they did not disappoint. The bronze one was exceptional as I had hoped for. I also particularly liked the ones with vanilla bean filling. Although I reserve the best éclair I ever had from a different patisserie that I won't name here (but feel free to ask me about it), these éclairs were top notch.
