Macaron Assortment ⋅ Château - Versailles, France
    Justin L.

Selection is on the limited side. If you're planning to visit Paris, I would stop by the Ladurée pâtisseries on Champs-Élysées or Ru Royale instead. The only upside to this location is the short wait. The store is on the Garden Level of the Palace of Versailles, near the Queen's staircase. It's accessible from the Royal Courtyard if you're coming from outside. Based on some floor plans, I think the space used to be the bedchamber of Françoise d'Aubigné, known as Madame de Maintenon. Inside there is a display case with twelve macaron flavors available for purchase. The room also contains cabinets along the walls, displaying other merchandise like candles, keychains, books, tote bags, and room sprays. I don't remember if the prices were higher compared to other stores, but everything you see can be bought on their website. Since it is a smaller outpost, they don't offer other pastries (flan, tarts, cakes), ice cream, or brunch items. I was bummed to find out they also don't sell macarons individually, you have to buy one of their sets. The smallest box is 6 pieces, and they also have sets of 8, 12, 15, 18, 20, 24, 28, and 35. They come in various colors, shapes, and sizes; making it a nice gift for anyone and everyone. Overall, the macarons were very well made. The outer cookie shell was delicate and soft, but still had a slight crunch. I found the inner part sweet and well-balanced with the cookie, with just the right amount of filling. If you haven't tried Pierre Hermé, I would make a stop there as well! The closest one is inside the Westfield Parly 2 shopping center about 5 kilometers away.

Ladurée is always a staple for me every time I drop by Versailles. Why? The macaron is incomparable here! I first discovered it when I was 13 and never went back. I've been comparing the brand to others ever since. It's everything about this brand; Ladurée sticks out! The packaging, the flavours and the way it just melts in your mouth! I haven't had other macarons come close to this. Again, I came back at 21 and spoiled myself. Just one box, I told myself. Just one. I came out with 2 all to myself. No sharing. Now, living in my hometown of Vancouver I found out my favourite place made a home here. Never been happier! Also, if you scrolled down my reviews... you'd see I reviewed the one from Vancouver too! This place has a special place in my heart.

The creators of the macaron, you can never go wrong with Ladurée. There are macarons everywhere in Paris, however Ladurée will always be superior (even to Pierre Hermé). Ladurée's macarons are soft and have the right texture and quality filling. Got the pistachio and Marie Antoinette flavors. I believe Marie Antoinette might be an exclusive flavor to Versailles? I was told it's flavor was a combo of orange, tea, and honey. Quite sweet but definitely a unique flavor.

Let's face it, no matter where you are around the world if you come across this wonderful maker of Macarons, you must stop what you were doing and get in line and eat some of them because they're the best in the world.

It's Laudree, shall I say more. Definitely not disappointed, but wish there was a bigger selection. I have been to many Laudrees around the world, and everything is pretty consistent and pretty much the same. My personal favorites are the rose flavored and the orange blossom macaroons. Wish they had a matcha flavored one... I expected the price for this location to be higher then others since it's located inside the Versailles castle, but I think the prices are the same.

There was a line at the door, but it moved fairly quickly. Once inside, you're in a beautiful Beaux-Arts salon. Service generally is very good. The Chocolat Chaud is superb. There are other savories and sweets on the menu here. This time we tried a Mont-Blanc (3/5). I know this is Angelina's signature pastry, but to me it couldn't compete with the Chocolat Chaud.

Angelina, Paris, France -- April 12…read more Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 stopped here for lunch after visiting the Louvre, drawn in by its reputation for having the best hot chocolate in the world. We were looking for a place to relax and refuel, and the experience felt a bit mixed overall. Arrival and First Impressions The space is elegant with classic Parisian charm. The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. The Highlights The famous hot chocolate lived up to expectations, thick, rich, and almost more like a dessert than a drink. We also had French onion soup and an éclair, both of which were very good. The pastries were clearly well made and thoughtfully prepared. The kids had chicken tenders, which they enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit different from what they expected. The Challenges The biggest drawback was the price. The meal felt expensive for what we ordered, coming in at €154 for a fairly simple lunch. Service felt slightly rushed as they moved tables along quickly. Final Thoughts We would likely return if we were nearby and specifically craving the hot chocolate again. It is a classic Paris stop and worth trying once, but the value may not justify going out of your way unless that signature experience is high on your list.

I would definitely recommend checking this place out, especially the location near the Eiffel Tower. Great food, generous portions, and an overall good experience!

They are constantly pulling small parties (1-4) out of line to seat them quicker depending on the space available. We were lucky to get the sweetest waiter he was the kindest one we've had in the city during our entire trip! Unfortunately I did not get his name. Although while washing my hands inside one of the waitresses did come beside me and basically shoved me out of my way to place a serving tray on the sink in front of me??? Food is nothing to write home about but just aesthetically pleasing. I traveled with my 3 nieces who said the hot chocolate was too sweet and they're kids! To each their own, I still think everyone should give it a shot:) Beware if bees are one of your fears or if you're allergic and you sit outside they will be swarming all of the sweet food on the table, but don't be so afraid because they do not sting they only want your food.
