The most striking thing about this restaurant is the high level of service.i can think of at least 5 examples of how their service exceeded my expectations: 1) When we arrived, the staff were expecting us and knew it was us. We had called 3 hours ahead, but this touch set the tone. 2) they had set up a perfect table for two for us by the window, with an incredible view. 3) We wanted some salad as we had been binging on hearty food throughout our Tuscan adventure, and if you've been to these parts, you know that even their salads have carbs. So when we expressed our desire for a green salad which was not on the menu, they had no reservations about cooking us up a perfect salad. 4) The chef came out to check on us to see if everything was ok. He walked to each table, which I have rarely seen. 5) When we were leaving, I asked if I could take my bottle of sparkling water with me. It was late at night and I was doubtful of finding a place to find water. The restaurant actually gave me a whole new bottle to take with me. Now how about the food? Really amazing! Duck ragout, and ravioli, both were excellent. The wine was incredible. I had a glass of chianti classico but regretfully didn't write down the name. If I could rate this place 6 stars, I would! An incredible vista!!!Unfortunately, on the night we went. The service was poor, we were told by three waiters it was their first day, and that the head maître d' was sick (not information that should be share with guests, but I am not a local). The service was extremely slow, not up to the standards of a restaurant like this. Our food came out between 30 minutes and an hour and a half after ordering. That is one meal came out after 30 minutes and one meal came 90 minutes after it was ordered. We were told that since we did not have reservations, we should expect such a service, premium service (all food arriving at the same time) is exclusive to people with reservations, however, we did notice guests that had reservations getting their own utensils and menus an a bit annoyed. Some of the food was very good, unfortunately, not all. One dish was described as Wildboar. It tasted, to us like beef, poor quality beef at that (good enough for Americans). The staff insisted that the meat was high quality wild-boar and we were not sophisticated enough to know the difference. (We are sure it was not boar) Please try it, I assume they're service is going to be much better than the night we dined, it was a pretty epic failure on the wait staff and kitchen. This place does have the most epic Tuscan view.

If I had to sum it up into 3 things they would Be: 1. Nonna's meatballs - you knew these were going to be good for the get-go but even our expectations were surpassed 2. Grilled beef filet - cooked to absolute perfection. Rare and flavorful - I would be hard pressed to think of when I had a better steak 3. Chocolate creamed covered profiteroles. Not exactly a traditional Italian dessert but one that blew our minds. Like I said, we went back 4 times looking for these. The family which runs the restaurant are amazingly friendly and modest people. They made our entire family feel welcomed and despite our limited knowledge of Italian made us feel at home right away. His genuine passion for his restaurant, his food, and his guests is easy to see and really adds to the experience. The food was absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere made for a memorable evening in Tuscany. Max made us feel welcomed and truly took the time to make our celebration special. I suggested we go for bistecca alla fiorentina, or Florentine style steak. This typical Tuscan offering is the region's signature dish and for good reason! We hopped on Sabino's scooter and took a gorgeous ride through Chianti to get to Da Padellina. When we pulled up, a Porsche 356 1600 Super was parked in front. Porsches are really not my thing but this vintage beauty captured my attention. Not fancy, the restaurant's history is long and shows on all the walls. Sabino and I dined upstairs overlooking rolling hills. We split a huge slab of meat (you get to choose it before they cook it) and it was carefully explained to me that the cooking method for bistecca alla fiorentina is very simple: fire, salt, pepper, olive oil. Basically it's all about the meat, which is served very rare. We also got sides of beans and potatoes and plenty of red wine. Those in search of a proper Florentine steak will surely find it here. Two words to sum up my meal at Da Padellina: Buonissimo Bistecca! Definitely one of the more memorable meals I've had in Italy.
