The workshop was hands on and began with toasting beans, We explored a Spanish church version of a hot chocolate recipe that was kept secret for over 200 years! The workshop advertises itself as a place to "make chocolate"; I guess I interpreted this a little too literally. The workshop consisted of literally pouring melted chocolate into molds and then adding some toppings like nuts or sprinkles to it. While this was very fun for my daughter who is a toddler, I felt ripped off for this experience. Furthermore, that you aren't even provided enough chocolate to complete your molds is a little disappointing in my opinion. Others in my group seemed to agree. The chocolate itself is very pricy, especially for the quality. It was more expensive than the pricier bars I've seen at Whole Foods. However, if you go to the botanical gardens, this chocolate is sold there but for about 25% more than what is in the shop. It also would have been nice to have had dark chocolate as an option for the experience. I think just having one type (milk chocolate) is an easy way for choco museum to improve. While our host was friendly and informative, it felt like a stretch to call this place a museum. I did learn stuff, but it seems you could only access the "museum" if you paid for a workshop.

This is the place I have been able to sit down in the cool shade of the garden, sip coffee or cool orange soda, while writing the first chapters of my book. I've been to several coffee shops in Bucerias, but this is my favorite. It is the best writing space I have found in town. The coffee is less than a buck and refills are free. There are a few cats who will enjoy the garden area with you and sleep on chairs. The garden is shared with Casa Tranquila budget hotel, and Patricia's hospitality made me feel most welcome.
