If I could split my review, I would... so here's my story:
Food: I have been very pleasantly surprised at the food here. Much like American-style Tex-Mex, the nachos con guacamole are right on the mark, and EXACTLY what I wanted. I have also tried their chimichangas, which are filled with a more creamy-vegetable mix than with the typical (meat) beans and cheese, but still quite good. There are several other "bowls" of beans and cheese, along with some meat-based dishes, that were popular with our group. The guacamole is fresh, and the flavors are right on the mark.
When the service is discussed, let me say that my experiences here have been mostly positive. However, with our group celebrating a friend's birthday, something happened that left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Here's what happened: when the waiter brought the check, there were a couple of missing items, specifically pitchers of beer and margaritas... but when he brought the ticket out, he wanted us to increase the amount we paid to make sure to cover those items that we consumed but did not appear on the bill. Because this was a birthday celebration, I wasn't going to push the point and request a new ticket, even though that is what I should have done. I didn't want to cause a scene when everyone else was enjoying the time together.
Clearly, he was going to pocket the difference from the ticket and what we paid, which included items that were not on the ticket. The waiter also, well, waited at our table to increase the pressure to pay the increased amount.
To be honest, I don't feel bad about paying the amount because our group really did consume those items. However, it was unethical of the waiter to not include them on the formal bill so he could make a personal profit. However, the next time I go there, I will make sure the bill is perfectly correct before a) paying the amount on the check or b) requesting a revised bill that accurately reflects the food we consumed.
