Very painful. The moment i hit my whole back was sprung. I could barely move. I went home immediately put ice on it took Advil and a muscle relaxer. My husband made an appt. For two days later. It was 9:00a.m. I went right into xray snd found i had a compression fracture L1. I was suppose to go to France next day. The PA said i don't think you are going. I pleaded with him and said i am not disappointing my grandson. Jonathan what a great guy, he spoke with Dr.Spayde, came back in and said, did you eat anything, luckily I didn't. He said we are going to do a kyphoplasty and you should be able to go without pain. So immediately i was triage, everyone came in. I got an MRI. The nurse who is the most sensitive caring person, (wish i remembered his name) was the best IV person I ever had. And the anesthesiologist was so kind and reassuring. This is s little past four weeks now and i feel great. I would give ten stars. How it is so amazing that all these guys got it together to fit me into their schedule. I can't thank them enough. In August of 2018 Erik Spayde performed a bi-lateral fusion for scoliosis treating severe sciatica…read more I did not know at the time, but the hardware was flawed, angled 40 degrees forward and totally mis-aligned with my sacrum; his flawed hardware basically crippled me, I could barely walk. Previously, at 73 I was in perfect health, surfing and backpacking. By the time I realized I was not going to get better the statute of limitation has passed. As a result of now being crippled I lost everything; my car, my company, everything I owned, and facing homelessness. I was told by 4 USC and UCLA spine surgeons the surgery was permanent and irreversble. I was devastated and depressed. Fortunately I found Dr. Alamin at Stanford, he diagnosed the mis-alignment, (I included my xrays) but told me he could fix it. I underent 8 hours of surgery, Dr. Alamin removed the flawed hardware, installed new hardware most of the way up my back, and I can basically walk, but I'd lost everything, I'll never get my life back and I'll never surf or backpack again. I wrote Dr. Spayde, and he denied his mistake, even though Dr. Alamin confirmed the mistake and that after his surgery I was able to walk and stand up straight. Dr. Spayde has glowing testimonials, but for me, he derailed my whole life, a life I will never get back, and a doctor who refuses to admit he screwed up. He may have glowing testimonials, but one mistake is one too many, including a lawsuit in 2013, a former patient, Mr. Hurst won, settling out of court. I filed a malpractice complaint with the Medical Board, and they basically threw it in the trash can, they protect the physican, not the patient. Based on my loss, and whatever loss Mr. Hurst suffered, and Dr. Spayde's denial. Don't go to him for treatment, he could make a third mistake, a devastating and irrepairable mistake.

Very Disappointing Experience - Nerve Injury After Vein Ablation…read more After battling sciatica for two years and undergoing spinal fusion nearly a year ago, I finally regained much of my ability to walk. I went into this vein ablation expecting further relief. Instead, I am now able to walk only about 10% of what I could before the procedure. I was never shown a diagram or clearly informed where the procedure would be performed, nor was I told beforehand that Dr. Sant Hilaire would not personally perform it. Instead, the procedure was performed by a nurse practitioner. Immediately following the ablation, I developed significant pain, burning, and numbness in my left leg and foot. An EMG later confirmed sural nerve neuropathy. At my one-month follow-up with Dr. Sant Hilaire, his only recommendation was Gabapentin, compression stockings, and another follow-up in a month. Unfortunately, my condition has continued to worsen, especially the pain and numbness, and my mobility remains severely limited. I am deeply disappointed with this practice, particularly the lack of communication before the procedure and what I consider inadequate follow-up care after such a serious complication. I trusted this practice with my health and expected far better.

Unprofessional, Money-First Care…read more I made an appointment with this doctor, and was in the hold time of five weeks to see him. A week later his office called to say he says I had to see a nurse first to confirm I "need" surgery before the doctor would even speak with me and then wait several additional weeks to get back on his schedule. The office showed no concern for patient inconvenience or extra cost: a deductible twice, making two trips, and waiting longer while they screen for higher‑paying cases. That is prioritizing revenue over patient care. My time has value also! When a physician places potential income ahead of patients' well‑being, it represents a breach of the fundamental duty of care, they are expected to act in patients' best medical interests, not their bank account. That erosion of professional responsibility creates delayed diagnoses and treatment, unnecessary costs and travel, and emotional stress from uncertainty. Once care feels transactional rather than ethical, patients lose confidence in clinical judgments, second‑guess recommendations, and may delay or avoid needed care entirely. Trust is essential to clear communication and good outcomes. It is difficult to rebuild when decisions appear driven by revenue rather than health. And if this guy's nurse turns people down as not profitable enough, then they need to start shopping for a new doctor after waiting over a month. Why even start with this mess?
