The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with its modern seafood restaurant decor. The presentation of the restaurant facilities and the food is good. Comfortable, clean, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would not, however, come here again. The specialty is supposed to be seafood, but both plates I tried left much to be desired. I'm a big fan of ceviche, so I ordered the Peruvian ceviche. Ceviche is best served cold and it is known for its tangy flavor. The presentation of the food is really lovely. The fish chunks sit in the bottom of the plate and topped with crunchy choclo, pickled red onions, and sweet potatoes. The fish, however, was bland. It was seasoned with a bit of chiles for spiciness, but it was lukewarm and had no tanginess, leaving me wondering if it was cooked enough as the acids of the citrus are meant to "cook" the fish. I had to ask for several limes to give it flavor myself. I also tried a "Timbalito" which is a corn-husk bowl filled with fish and octopus. This one had slightly more flavor and spice, but needed limes as well for a balance of tanginess. Most disappointing is the quality of the seafood. For a specialty in seafood, the octopus tasted an awful lot like canned pulpo, which is fine but not the quality I expect at this price point. I would also stay away from the cocktails. The menu lists the names of some cocktails but not the ingredients, so the bartender has to explain verbally each drink to you. I asked for something not as sweet, so I had a spicy margarita. The spice was just a little bit of tajin on the rim (which is mostly just salt) and the drink itself was undrinkably sweet. Had to quench my thirst with a bottle of water, because the restaurant does not offer tap water. Not impressed, not coming back. read more

I travel on the road quite a bit for work, so I never know what kind of restaurant I'm going to walk into. I was staying at the Hampton Inn, and didn't want to fight the McAllen traffic and construction. This restaurant was within walking distance of my hotel. What a fantastic, fine! The restaurant is basically on the second floor , and you got to find the door to the lobby to go upstairs by the elevator or the stairs. Of course, there's all kinds of signs, but who reads signs Lol! I ended up eating here two times in a row and sat at the bar. This was through the middle of the week and early. I wish I would've got the bartenders name, a guy and a girl the service there was beyond exception they were so very nice explaining the menu explaining the drinks, personal service was just beyond what you would expect in a restaurant these days on the second night they even learned it was my birthday and brought me out a cake with a candle. This hidden gem is absolutely amazing! The environment is very lively and upscale. It truly is a little bit of the Carribean in McAllen. Upon arrival we were served a small serving of shrimp soup with crackers and tostadas. We ordered the shrimp quesadillas, and they were delish! I also had a extra delicious shrimp tostada with a very large serving of Pozole (seafood style with shrimp and mussels). The Pozole was Yummy but I felt it lacked some spices. Oh and the mojitos are beyond refreshing. For dessert we tried the tart, passion fruit with merengue chocolate and strawberries. Yum! Need I say more. 2.5 stars We were looking for a new spot & came across this thanks to Yelp. However, the address is a bit confusing & we ended up at a motel in Pharr. I ended up calling for directions & found it just fine (located off Expressway 83, north of Rio Grande Regional Hospital). It's located in a new building on the 2nd floor with the option to climb stairs or take an elevator. The inside is very modern & chic with an alfresco option (which I'm sure is really nice at night). The service was friendly. The food was pretty good for the most part but kinda pricey. A few things I had issues with were: (1) menu was completely in Spanish (didn't find out til afterwards that they have English menus upon request only); (2) our waitress was nice but kept coming to our table every couple of mins to ask if we were ready to order (which we weren't cause we were struggling with the Spanish menu & never offered that they had it in English) & then once we got our food she would come every couple of mins wanting to clear our table/plates/salsas & when we would politely decline she would still linger; (3) our shrimp appetizer was a decent size with big shrimp & had a cut in the shell for easy peeling but was not cleaned/deveined! (4) the presentation on my wood "plate" was nice but messy as my rice & salad kept falling off not just the plate but the table and the waitress had to come sweep it up (luckily my hubby's rice came on a separate plate so I was able to move my rice and salad there); (5) the vegetable side is actually salad (which I don't mind at all & it was quite delicious & helpful in making my tacos) but, if my hubby had ordered that he would have been very disappointed as he would be expecting cooked veggies; (6) we both had Spanish rice with our entrees...mine was super delicious, his was not! It had a different color & flavor & when I asked our waitress about it she couldn't answer our question or resolve it. Oh snap! That's more then a few issues, LOL!
