I really hope that I am an honorary Spaniard at this point. Not only have I camped out on the beach and indulged in some Cuarenta y Tres*, but I have perfected the Spanish bar hop!
La Tapería de Sybaris was the first destination on a three-stop bar hop. (We did this for two consecutive nights.) We started each of the evenings out with a glass of the house Ribera. I loved the red fruit flavors and slight hints of oak. And at 2.50 a glass, I was tempted to get a refill but remembered that this was a marathon, not a race.
In order to prevent me from falling on the floor, we sampled various tapas over the course of the two evenings. I do like that Sybaris includes a small bite with each drink ordered. This is supposedly a very Andalucian thing, but I've noticed the practice to be much more consistent in Galicia (go figure). And on the second night, I did receive a little piece of Galicia in the form of a few pimientos de padron. Mmm.
But because a bite is never enough for me, we ordered the following:
Chorizo and aged manchego cheese: Pretty self explanatory and near-impossible to screw up. But for the price (approximately 10 euro), we received enough chorizo and cheese to feed about 5 people.
Setas a la plancha: I wanted something a little lighter to share. The mushrooms on the counter caught my eye and the bartender said that he could grill the mushrooms with a little bit of oil and vinegar. Perfect!
My journey to the south and to Málaga was not only much-needed, but extremely memorable. I'm glad that La Tapería de Sybaris was a part of these adventurous nights out and I hope that I have a reason to return one day.
