We got a home run: a gastronomic success! What a delight to find this jewel of a restaurant in Le Bourscat (just outside Bordeaux, France)!
While our hotel restaurant (at Maison Pavlov) has been absolutely lovely, when walking past we stopped to read the dinner menu at La Table du Décanteur, and were then told that evening would be having live music - so we made reservations!
Our experience was an absolute delight from arriving to leaving. The restaurant atmosphere was modern and lively - and served and eclectic mix of people of all ages. Seating was both indoors and outdoors - and their wine list was extensive. Upon arrival, we were immediately welcomed, and quickly accommodated with our choice of seating. Not knowing what type of music nor the volume to expect, we asked to be seated indoors, but even those on the patio were able to talk while enjoying the music.
The menu (in French!) was "interesting" to navigate - long-unused French only goes so far - but our server was happy to explain anything we didn't quite understand. The menu changes weekly, and while the menu described it much better than I will - my husband and I "started" our meal with artichoke hearts and pastrami, and for dinner we had beef tips served with peas, butter beans, and a wasabi-like sauce - topped by the thinnest sliced and deep-fried jalapeńos! (It was a pleasure on the palate - not at all hot or in the least uncomfortable!) The three dessert selections each sounded amazing - but since we have been eating *well* for the last six weeks of travel, we decided to forego dessert.
We weren't rushed out the door and were able to enjoy the ambiance and the guitar player - who added a lovely touch to the evening with both his voice and melodic music. While only open a short while, certainly La Table du Décanteur is an experience not to be missed if you're in the Bordeaux area! read more
