One of my favorite gelato spots in Italy! I didn't originally plan on coming here, but I noticed a…read moredecent line when I was passing by and figured it must be popular for a reason lol. I'm so glad I decided to give it a try because it definitely did not disappoint! I've had pistachio gelato at so many different places, but this one was honestly what I think true pistachio flavor should taste like. It wasn't artificially sweet and had the perfect balance of nuttiness and creaminess. The staff recommended pairing it with the Field Flower Milk flavor and it ended up being such a great combination! The mild, milky flavor didn't overpower or compete with the pistachio at all and complemented it really well. Definitely a spot I would come back to if I'm ever in Florence again!

I don't know if there is bad gelato, but I haven't encountered it yet. That said, Sbrino is the…read morebest gelato I had in Florence, which puts it toward the top of the list of my favorite gelato worldwide. This tiny little shop has an inefficient system for ordering, which results in more of a line than their should be, and subsequently more of a delay than I'd like in getting the most delicious caramello gelato cone into my face. However, I find it hard to be upset with them once I am eating the gelato. Eating this gelato makes me very happy, and I would like to come back to Florence and eat it every day of my life until I die, fat and happy. (My apologies that my friend is in my photo of said gelato. It's the only photo I took of it, and I understand that no one wants to see his silly face, but I really wanted you all to see the gelato.)

I made it my…read moreintention to try as much gelato as I could in the city so when we had some down time post-lunch we thought that a little sweet would hit the spot. To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.

The lines seem long, but they move quite quickly! Pro tip: choose the left line if you're ok with classic or pistachio-topped affogato. It moves much faster compared to the right line. Also you can also order gelato in that line! We came here twice during our trip here. The espresso is freshly brewed after they line your cup with gelato. It's perhaps also the priciest spot we've been in our whole gelato/affogato adventures in Italy - 6€ for classic and 9€ for pistachio topped affogato. However we thought it was worth every euro! They also have gelato options as well! I got a piccolo cup, which is 3€ and comes with 2 flavors. I got their pistachio and hazelnut flavors, and my goodness, it was the best gelato I had throughout my whole trip. The pistachio comes through very nicely without and the hazelnut packs a punch of a flavor! Also I was able to take my gelato and mix with the espresso from my affogato to try some new combinations. Must go if you're in Florence!

hands down the BEST thing I ate in all of Italy…read more I would book a flight to come back to Florence for this delicacy alone. no other establishment should be allowed to call their gelato and espresso an affogato without express permission from Vivoli. sure there's a line, but it is worth every little second of the wait. they crank these out and they are absolutely marvelous. my only complaint is that they're so busy that you could only choose from pistachio and plain instead of their larger selections of gelato. 10/10!!
