This hole in the wall place is soooo great! Delicious authentic Mexican food! Also they have a shop where you can buy all kinds of snacks and knacks. The fajitas are a must with guac!

Excellent horchata here, good food with extensive menu, small general store too I usually get the tacos here which are pretty good (also it's maybe the only place that serves fairly hot salsa verde) - though you'll also find great birria, tortas, and gorditas. The menu is huge - lots to work through. The place is very roomy and the walls are all lined with booth-seating which I like, not to mention a ton of windows, which gives this place a bright environment compared to most cavernous restaurants around vernor. It has a very home-like feel to it, in a way that other comfy hole-in-the-wall restaurants don't. It would be easy to bring large parties here too. Being in company of more than 6 can get really hard in southwest, but not here. (They might also cater too, as I've seen them carrying out to a van large tin trays of rice and meats - but you should double-check). There's a small general store area in front of the register where you can get snacks and other pantry items, meats, hot food) They have some of the best horchata in town here. It's as good as Sr. Lopez, which beats all others. They do up micheladas in really big glass mugs too. I think there's a full bar. Service is always above par. (and they get just a few bonus points for having a keep-you-guessing tv display... sometimes it's Latin American futbol league, sometimes it's SpongeBob SquarePants)

Just had La Rosita's steak tacos for the first time, they were excellent. Love that they have 99 cent tacos on Tuesdays. We will return.

Lots of tender chunks of flavorful beef swimming in a delicious broth with potato, carrots, onion and some kind of squash. It comes with rice and beans. I sometimes add that to my soup as well. Instead of crackers I use tortilla chips. The chicken soup is equally as good. I don't know why more Mexican restaurants don't offer this option. Mexican soup is much different than gringo soup. I cut everything up into tiny pieces. Mexican soup is entire carrots, a potato cut in half, half an onion. That said it totally works. I highly recommend the soup at Lupita's.

Heads up; it's cash only (atm with $3 fee in the building) and 1 bill per table. I ordered 5 quesadillas to sample the different meats. I'll go from best to worst. The cabeza was rich, but not too overpowering which I've experienced before. No fat either which was great. The asada had a nice flavor and was perfectly tender. The pollo was equally flavorful and tender. All 3 get an A grade. The carnitas was pretty good, but not as tender as the others. Solid B. Finally, the pastor was a bit underwhelming. Simply too saucy to fully enjoy it. A C grade on that. Only negative would be how greasy they were. The tortillas were absolutely drenched in grease which wasn't great. Overall, a solid experience. Wish I would've degreased the tortillas more.

I ordered a carnitas burrito, one of my favorites. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered it. Our table ordered 5 tacos and a burrito.... 45 minutes is outrageous. Once it finally came, my burrito was about half the size of what it typically is (posted a photo of my last burrito from here for reference) Then, they cut the burrito and there were pieces of foil all in the burrito (pictured) really not okay. The worst part, there were three massive bones in my burrito!!!!! When I complained, they said that carnitas has bones in it... I've never had bones in my burrito. They asked if I wanted something else and I said I want the same burrito but without bones and they told me that if I got the same meat it would probably also have bones in it so they didn't remake it for me. If I bit down on it I could've broken my tooth or choked. Really really disappointed with my experience last night. I'll be back because this isn't "normal" for them, but I'm really disappointed. The manager ended up comping my burrito and explained to me that sometimes baby bones get through the meat when they're cooking it... you can see from the picture we're not talking about baby bones- these were three massive quarter size bones

We had the combo plate and the parillada de mariscos, as well as the spicy guacamole. The spicy guacamole is made with habaneros, by the way, so caution if you think you like spicy but are not ready for the heat! My only disappointment was that I was looking forward to grilled seafood (hence the parillada), but the seafood came sautéed instead, leaving the calamari rings a bit softer than I like them, but the lemon butter sauce was delicious.

I have been trying Mexican restaurants all over the U.S. and no where compares to vecino and to think I found my favorite in Detroit amazes me. It truly is worth every penny. For what to order: All their appetizers are great. We usually switch it up and are satisfied with each one that we've ordered. The Totopos with salsa are a must and their guac is great as well. For mains- the asada del día is our go to. It is always cooked to perfection and comes with fresh tortillas. And it is hard for me to come by a tortilla in the U.S. that I enjoy. But here, they are excellent. They import their corn from Mexico and you can tell. This is served with bone marrow and some garlic onion spread that goes great on the taco. For dessert- their tres leches is amazing. The coconut cream pairs so well with the cake. I could eat like 10 of them. As if it's not obvious at this point vecino is my favorite restaurant in Detroit and one of my tops in the world. I will not be surprised if they are the first ones in Detroit to secure the Michelin star

I felt a little out of place being here given just how trendy and super party-like atmosphere it all was haha! And in the months since I've come here, it remains a super popular spot to go to if you're looking for that extremely lively atmosphere! None of this takes away from the quality of their delicious food! We had incredible dishes and they clearly take a lot of pride in sourcing intentionally all their ingredients for their food, and the waitstaff did their best to intro us to everything, despite how overstimulatingly loud the environment was, so I only came away from each presentation with about half the information they wanted to convey. But all in all, the food was good across the board, and we tried a ton of different dishes. There weren't any that were overwhelming showstoppers that made me want to come back here again and again to try the rest of the menu though, so I left Vecino knowing that I wasn't going to return anytime soon. It's definitely for a specific mindset and type of celebratory occasion, which is often not the one I'm in when I'm going out to eat with friends.

The food here is amazing. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, and at $2.50 each, they're an unbeatable deal. But the real star for me was the burrito--this thing had to weigh at least a pound! It wasn't just massive; it was packed with huge flavor. I went with al pastor for my protein, and it was absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned and cooked.
