Some friends suggested La Roche, as it was one of their favorite restaurants. La Roche is right in the main restaurant district of Mälmo, and paid parking was available adjacent to the village square. We arrived at the restaurant to find smiling faces and a lovely heated patio for people watching. It was a bit cold, so we went inside instead.
We ordered, and after savoring my first bite, I understood why they had wanted to return. My husband, friends and I enjoyed the serrano ham, fried octopus, garlic bread, patatas bravas (potatoes in sauce), pinchos de pollo, the gambas al ajillo, a Spanish potato tortilla (names may be different on the menu), and then I had the steak with a pepper and onion sauce. Everything was delicious, though the steak was bland - I wouldn't order that again. Aside from the steak, I would order all of the other items again, but request grilled octopus instead of fried. The waiter easily helped me to avoid foods that were dangerous to my food allergies.
My husband thought the noise level was high, but for me this meshes with my memories of Spain and Latin America, so it was within expectations. A note on the service: We could have benefited from having our server return more frequently to refill drinks and take our second round of food orders. In addition, my husband was asking a question right after the waiter had taken our drink orders, and the waiter spun around and left. Once is funny, but this happened two or three times. It could have been the noise level in the restaurant, but the service was probably a 3 of 5. The food was a 4 of 5. Meaning, I'd happily return here, but may explore other restaurants the next time I am in Mälmo. read more
