A group of six of us enjoyed dinner at La Robla on a Saturday evening. We were seated at a huge round booth that was comfortable. Service in Argentina is slower than in the U.S., so adjust your expectations. Unfortunately, our server was even slower than we normally experience in BA and seemed depressed. Even in BA our expectation is that a basket of bread (or something) and menus would be brought to the table within a couple of minutes. Instead, we sat with nothing until the server appeared 15 minutes later. It took another 15 minutes for her to return. Very disappointing service.
We ordered a pair of tortillas as an appetizer, which were perfectly fine, and then several paellas to share as a communal dinner. The portions were very generous, but amounted to a great deal of rice and not much seafood. very ordinary and uninspired. Such a shame for a Spanish restaurant.
We used to come here often when it was inhabited by an excellent restaurant called Roof. We were dismayed when it closed. The ambiance, was upscale, dark and sexy. Service was excellent. Understandably wanting to establish their own personality on the space, La Robla changed the ambiance completely. It would be okay, but the bright lighting destroys any sense of .atmosphere or drama.

This space, which quite large, has so much potential and could be easily transformed by a skilled designer into something special But none of that matters when you almost never get a visit from your server. read more
