This is my high school, I'm a 2008 graduate and proud to have came to this school! I have so many memories and made a great deal of friends, especially life long ones! This school has a lot to offer and prepare you for college academically and physically. They have a lot of clubs and specialized programs. They always harbor top notch teams to compete in the valley! The staff here are supportive and accepting of any physical challenges. The security is on point now a days. I was apart of Health Academy and am extremely grateful to have been prepared for life after high school. I am glad on how they have expanded. I come in as a guest speaker for Mrs. Pedersen to speak about pathways to the Health Academy students once a year. This school boasts great teachers and always has a sense of pride amongst the students. The best high school in the valley in my opinion and can easily get 5 stars for what it has accomplished and offers. read more

LQHS is my high school that I am currently attending. The school is amazing, especially its programs. I'm a part of the IB program and despite being very rigorous, I find it to be very rewarding. I have friends I've known since freshman year because we are always in the same class. The teachers are wonderful - always willing to listen to what you have to say and offer any help they can. I would definitely recommend this school (and this program) as a high school option. read more

I graduated in 2008, and in the grand scheme of High School experiences I would say mine wasn't half bad at all. LQHS is the only school in the valley with the International Baccaleaureate Program (fuck, I was in it and I still don't know how to spell it) and if you're interested in your child becoming completely socially inept and needing anxiety meds from the age of 15, you should definitely have them apply. I only did the certificate program for English and Theatre because I love only completely impractical subjects. Mrs. Bickford was the best english teacher of all time. Mr O'Grady is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. He taught Calculus and I'm not sure why everyone why everyone was crazy about him because he only caters to people who "like math" and doesn't actually care to help the people who are left brained, and I remember once he actually told the class that all Humanities subjects were "useless." I loved most of my science classes, although went the non- IB route and took Anatomy and shit like that. I used to go back to visit Ms. Isbell and Mrs. Machiosek, before the school became like Fort Knox to visitors (you used to be able to just stroll in and walk around completely freely, now you have to give some sort of reason for going there aside from visiting teachers). Last I remember there were a gazillion clubs and whatnot to take part in, if you're into that. If you want to go to college and all, LQ is hands-down the best high school in the valley. When I got to UCSB I felt completely prepared thanks to all my creativity-crushing AP classes, so much so that I hardly even had to lift a book to study, which give me more time to work on my alcohol studies. read more

Because I am new to the community and my daughter was therefore new two this school, (La Quinta High), I believe that my sensitivity was keener than someone more acclimated. Immediately I found the registration process very accommodating and the appropriate counselors and staff helpful. My daughter entered in her junior year, the Baccalaureate program. That year her grades were high (A/B's). She is graduating this year but with low grades even fails. After taking meetings with her counselor I learned that because my daughter wanted a challenge her counselor supported the idea, her idea of taking advanced classes that she did not need. This lead her into an over loaded schedule of assignments. Needless to say, she will pass and graduate because she passed the testing needed to move on. The message and advice that I would give to parents with high functioning children is do not trust what the guidance counselors suggest as the best idea. Make sure that you are involved completely in your child's choices. We as parents want to give them space to make decisions of their own , on their own but be aware of the counselors. For me, I felt that my input to my daughters well being (scholastically) was over ride by the school. At the end of the day I have to say thank goodness we made it through and she is headed to college. It should had been a better support and effort on the guidance counselor to communicate (I thought) with me the parent as well. Signed Parent read more

I attended this school during my sophomore and junior year of high school. I can say that i genuinely despised both those years. Thankfully i had great friends those years, which made those years go by easier. Everyday was honestly depressing, and im not trying to be a critic and talk bad on the school but If you want your child to have good high school memories, try Fountain Valley High School or Marina. The school has no spirit, weird students from Vietnam, mostly bad teachers, harsh rules and a VERY small campus. The track is so poorly constructed and the football field is a joke. The pool is also disgusting. I cannot stress about how bad this school is, no joke... Mr. Tran was probably the coolest person there. (He is a counselor) read more

I am very disappointed to be coming to this school, I am doing my best to transfer because of how bad my experience has been. On the 3rd day of school it was 110F, I wore ripped jeans and the new top I got because it was my 16th birthday, they dress coded me and my friend who wore jeans and a t-shirt with about less than an inch of her stomach showing. They pay more attention to our bodies than our education, considering they took 70+ girls out of first, second and third period, it was a block day so 70+ girls missed their classes because of their clothing in summer. They pick and choose who they dress code, since boys can have hats on, wallet chains, naked drawings of women on their clothes and inappropriate flags on. Yet when girls dress according to the weather we are taken away from our education. I missed 6 classes cause I wouldn't let them take away my shirt, They talk about empathy but when I was sobbing in the office on my birthday, all they said was that they had to take my shirt, I was willing to put the shirt they gave me over my shirt but they wouldn't let me do that. The only person that seems to be dress coding these 14-17 year old girls is a 40-50 year old man. read more

Best high school in the valley, graduated class of 2015, woohoo! most people were extremely friendly and I ended up having a really great 4 years in high school! The school has so much spirit, especially when we play against palm desert birdcage is absolutely amazing. Only mean person I've ever come across was probably the vice principal and the disciplinary attendant Mr. Webb, however he is in disciplinary so I guess it's his job to be mean.
