My husband and I have been coming here for years. I don't know what happened. I'm not sure if the place in general has gone downhill or if I just ordered from a new worker. I attempted to call 2-3 times and it came back with a message about the number not being in Service. Maybe they were just really busy and there weren't any lines available, I don't know. But when someone did pick up I ordered what I always order and he was asking me clarifying questions that they don't normally ask, so I should've seen that as a red flag. But I assumed that my simple two cheese enchiladas with rice and beans order would be correct. It wasn't, I got some Chile verde smothered something and I was really disappointed. I know that the person taking my Order didn't mean to mess it up, but it ruined my dinner and my appetite. read more

Had the pleasure of having my first taste of Utah Mexican food. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The food here was very flavorful and good. So good in fact I forgot to take a picture of me smothered tamale. We also tried the fried ice cream with chocolate and caramel sauce. It was so good. They only lost a star because the service was non- existent. I think we sat for 20 minutes after they brought us chips, salsa and waters before they asked if we had been helped and our orders taken which was a big fat NO. First I'll say my wife absolutely adores this place and would eat here 7 days a week if she could. I enjoy that the food comes out fast they have excellent customer service and most of all they have the salsa tableside in a squeezable bottle so no need to ask for refills (besides the chips of course!) I always get the carb free fajitas (fajitas without the tortillas) I don't like the tortillas they make here. It's hit and miss sometimes it tastes unseasoned and bland others its beautiful. Overall if you want some cheap Mexican food with complimentary chips and salsa you got a great option with la puente. read more

I was right on the name La Puente the first time I left the review . I want to also add that the reason most Mexican restaurants are unsatisfying to me is because when you order a combo plate you get a giant soup on the plate: every item is blending into each other and tastes all the same. This was the first and last time we go here, the food was good the salsa not so much but the thing that really made me mad was being charged for using our credit card for almost $4.00. I understand we would have even been charged if we had used our debit card which is illegal because a debit card is the same as cash. No one said anything about adding on this charge when we handed it to pay if they had we would have paid cash. So instead of our meal being 22.74 it was 26.44. I'm surprised the have any business at all because of this. read more

I usually love the chile verde smothered burritos from La Puente, La Frontera, & La Fountain. I've been eating them for 35 years at a bunch of different locations. The ones we got at this location in February were virtually flavorless, as were the beans. It was kind of like eating taro or paste; very disappointing. Oh my gosh....crazy good rice and beans! Hubby has always loved their smothered burritos, and this was no exception. He snarfed it so fast...which he doesn't do. Lol The sift shell chicken tacos are my thing...all breast meat. This time was a little drier, but normally moist and well seasoned. Service is good...very friendly. Prices are decent. My wife and I tried this place Friday night, we were not real impressed, 2 cheese enchiladas and rice and beans were on special for $8.99 that made it affordable, I thought it was pretty poor quality food, there salsa tasted like catchup and water. No beer on tap, just $ 4.50 and up a can or bottle. We will give them another try, but if they can't do any better we're going to just go to Taco Time. read more

My husband started going to La Puente in West Jordan every Wednesday for his "father-daughter-date" and now we go as often we can. We can't get enough! Chips and salsa are BOMB!! We go weekly if we could. My husband and daughter get a smothered burrito and I get the cheese enchiladas and we are always so happy with the overall Experience. No matter what waitress or waiter we get, EXCEPTIONAL customer service. They really make you feel at home. Nothing more than a mediocre meal. You would do better going to 7-11 and getting a burrito. Service was poor and any complaints were just ignored by the hostess. Over charged for one meal that didn't come to the table until everyone else was half way done. And they still tacked on a 20% tip and a credit card surcharge. read more

Decided to check this joint out for taco Tuesday with some friends. It is in a pretty good spot! Lots of parking and the restaurant is cute! Inside it was nice and cool and I was helped by the host right away. I sat down and got the menu through the QR code on the table. It seemed to be an extremely long wait until we received our food. We had to ask the waiter multiple times for items and I had to ask three times for my drink to be refilled. When we finally got our food, it was not nearly as good as I thought it would be. Not a lot of flavor at all, however the portion size was very large! I got a meal that was about 11 dollars but it ended up being 18 at the counter. I guess they have a sign explaining that they give a cash discount but I didn't realize the bill would be doubled. Lol. Truthfully, my friends and I were super unimpressed with our experience here. I heard this place was great but I've had better here in Utah. I hope to visit again sometime and hopefully have a better experience! read more

Love their smothered burritos with cheese! If you are wanting to really live on the edge and need to put on another 10 lbs quickly try their French fries smothered with cheese. My husband can eat at this restaurant everyday because their food is awesome. We go to the Midvale restaurant and either we eat in or go through the drive thru. The staff are friendly and attentive. The only pet peeve I have is when they assume we are through eating and they try to take our plates. We like eating and resting so please ask us if we are through. Very good food. It's not fancy but roomy, clean, and good chips. The house salsa is at least a medium for those who have touchy tummies. Had the Chile relleno and one was mild but the other was a bit spiced. The beans are very good and authentic. Growing up making homemade, flour tortillas from my grandma's recipe, I love finding authentic tortillas similar to my own and La Puente has them. So many people think Cafe Rio or Costa Vida tortillas are wonderful, so they obviously have never had truly Mexican, homemade, flour tortillas. La Puente has smothered burritos which are delicious. Their smothered fajita burritos are also very tasty. If you are eating a low carb diet, they even offer a low carb (NOT low fat) fajita plate, which just happens to be very yummy, and not many Mexican restaurants offer this. The service is quick and friendly. If you are looking for Americanized Mexican food, La Puente is not for you. If you're looking for Mexican food coming to Utah through the New Mexico region, you have found the right place. read more

I love and crave smothered burritos but lately here I maybe had a tablespoon of beans inside of burrito a couple pieces of pork and hardly any chile or cheese. I've been eating at La Puente for nearly 30 years. In that time I've only ordered one item off the menu, smothered burrito with cheese no beans. There is absolutely no reason to get anything else, as this is as perfect a burrito as I've ever had. Nice thick tortilla with excellent chili verde smothered in a ton of cheese. I like to order a second tortilla to mop up the extra sauce and cheese. This location is every bit as good as the Salt Lake location and the location they had in Fort Union area. That location closed a few years ago and I was pretty sad until they opened this location, closer to my house than ever before! I've only eaten in once but ordered take out a half a dozen times. Highly recommended, but only for the smothered burrito. Enjoy! read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant because they would pack the plates full to stay or to go however this last time I went they put barely any food in my to go plates it was as if they cut up one potato and put half of that potatoes fries into the plate. Really disappointed because when I went back to complain the manager told me that they don't pack the plates anymore that they only serve small portions of food now. She wouldn't give me my money back or give me a new order of food. Will never come back! What a waste of $22.67 I would give the restaurant zero stars if I could. I left that place feeling sick to my stomach! I've been going to La Puente for 25 years. However, I don't think I will ever step foot in another. For starters. Their chili Verde recipe must have changed. It was way thick and gross. Second, their beef chimichanga was way too salty I couldn't taste the other spices. There were three adults and one child. Each adult ordered entre plates and we ordered a child plate, 2 drinks and extra chili verde because what they put on the chimichanga was like a spoonful. They brought out two bowls which was a lot but leftovers are welcomed in our home. Anyway, when the bill came it was $78.00 and some change. Ok, fine, I realized the prices have gone up. When I went to pay my bill there was a 3.5% increase on all card payers. What? Really? Raise your prices, I get it but to add the 3.5% on top of that? The food wasn't even good!!! When I commented on that increase the guy I was paying g said, "yeah, small family businesses need to add that for the card companies. Thanks for supporting us". I support a lot of family businesses and they never have charged that a 3.5% increase on me meal. Needless to say, I will never eat at a La Puente ever again, especially the one we went to. read more

We will meet our daughter here all the time because she loves Mexican food and can get the fajitas and has never had a gluten reaction!!! She has celiacs and they do t advertise as gluten free, but If you tell them, they are always accommodating and so nice about it! The food is exactly what you'd expect for a La Puente, although the chips we got when we sat down were stale. We were sat quickly and given chips and salsa quickly but our server ignored us for awhile (about 15 mins) before acknowledging our existence. We had considered leaving but had a toddler with us and were anxious just to get any food really. Our server then had an attitude the entire time during our stay. The restaurant interior itself needs some help too as it just doesn't feel super clean. Wasn't expecting a fine dining experience but won't be back at this location. read more
