We came here for the giant charcuterie board, and were not disappointed! We waited outside right before opening and got seated immediately, and soon after it was quite busy inside. I loved how they had a bunch of different toast flavors spread amongst all the meats and cheeses, as well as fresh fruit. The chicken spread on toast was by far my favorite, and the mortadella was outstanding too. One of my new favorite cured meats! I'm not a huge cheese person but my friends like it. Words can't describe how amazing La Prosciutteria was. While it presents as a bit of a gimmick, I promise you it's totally worth it. The quality of the food was unmatched. Everything was fresh and there was a huge variety of items to choose from. We tried a board and a sandwich paired with some of their house beer. The beer was perfect to wind down on a hot day. The board had a nice variety of meats, cheese, and an assortment of other delicious items. The sandwich was also unreal. The bread was light and fluffy and a great complement to the meat. The price was also extremely reasonable, they are not trying to gouge you at all. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy. Everyone was extremely kind to us and immediately accommodated even though we didn't have a reservation. They even brought us an extra side table for our food so we wouldn't be so cramped. This is a fun spot if you're playing tourist in Bologna. They've got beautiful meat boards available with cheese and other treats. They've even got gluten free bread if that's a concern for you (although, it's not the best). We got a meat board with prosciutto, salami, mortadella, and another mystery meat we can't remember. Five stars! This is a fun place with a huge variety of interesting sandwiches and charcuterie offerings. It is very popular. When you arrive locate a table. There is seating inside, outside by the door and across the alley. At first the inside seating looks limited but they have a few rooms that you can't see from the door. The menus are inside by the register. Once you decide go to the counter and place your order. When your food is ready they call your name so you can pick it up. I was recommended to La Prosciutteria Firenze by two of my friends who stumbled upon it while roaming the streets of Bologna. Immediately, I was head over heels for the vibe of the place. The outside was covered with beautiful, bright purple blooming flowers and little string lights. Inside had a real rustic feel, with mismatched tables and chairs, meat hanging from the walls, shoes on the ceiling, artwork of cute pig cartoons, and various other bold art pieces strung about. I ordered the #14 schiacciate toscane, which had vegetables, dried tomatoes, and mushroom sauce sandwiched between two pieces of flatbread. The food was delicious, salty, and earthy. It absolutely exceeded my expectations and was very easy to devour. The one negative comment I would make is that it had a bit too much bread-to-vegetable content. My friend and I both had to remove one of the pieces of bread to enjoy the sandwich fully. I absolutely loved the no-waste mentality of the place, with little to no use of plastic and all materials (forks/wrap/plate) being sustainable and recyclable. I understand that a lot of Italian restaurants have adopted this sustainable mentality. The prices were reasonable, the staff were friendly and spoke English, and the service was fast. Seeing the past 5 star reviews I thought this place would be good, but that was a big mistake. This place is talked about as if it's something unique or special, but in fact it is just a chain restaurant tourist trap that takes very little care of its meats and serves them poorly. After eating a mind blowing meal last night in Bologna, this place should be out of business if it was not for the endless stream of idiot tourists (me included) that are suckered in by "good" (ignorant) reviews. We were helped by an English-speaking employee who let us know that there were two kinds of boards, the 15 euro one having a superior variety of meats. We tried that one. I recognized all the meats, alas, so it wasn't the variety that I thought we'd get, but there was one mortadella that was so flavorful it was a religious experience. I found out that was mortadella with truffles. Oh my goodness. That was worth the extra 5 euros a piece. You get cheeses, fruit, breads (with a truffle spread, no less - no wonder I liked it!), a pot full of fresh bread slices, jam, a chestnut honey (I think it was - it was similar to one I had in France last year), pickled vegetables and olives. The glasses of lambrussco we got were a bit flat and flavorless and even the bottle of their prosecco wasn't that good. But it was certainly an enjoyable meal and the staff was very nice. Let me just say, that if there's two of you and you aren't particularly super hungry, just share the one serving (it's about 10 euros), which comes with cheese, meats, bread+spread and some sundried and pickled veggies! And he will show you the wooden boards hanging behind him. Basically, you choose the size of board you want (5, 10, or 15€ per person depending on the size) and then they will fill it with a wonderful array of breads spread with cheese or olive pate or tomato sauce, and charcuterie, cheeses, olives, and veggies. You can ask for fruit, too. They'll bring it out with a pot of bread, and you will be completely delighted. The meat is fresh and incredible quality, the cheese phenomenal, and the spreads on the bread choices pair so well with the meats and cheese. This place is hopping! Clearly the place to visit when visiting Bologna. Stopped in here for meat and cheese, and boy did we pick the right place. The meat and cheese boards here are like the mother of meat and cheese boards.
