This is a place that I come back to periodically to enjoy the amazing things that made my heart sing as a child. FLIES & INSECTS inside the bread windows and dirty atmosphere. too expensive. lousy and lazy cashier & server. rude when i told her about the flies. didnt care. now i go to la fiesta on commerce st next to martinez tacos. kind ladies, clean place, great, fresh tasting bread and great flour tortillas. i also most recently tried guerreros bakery at 533 n gen mcmullen across the funeral home. they sell great, fresh bread and tacos and have the lowest prices, clean place and great service. love those 2 places. read more

You will not find anything better around the San Antonio and Austin area. All the bread taste so delicious. The place is very clean, they cover the bread very well, and wear gloves to handle the money. The staff is courteous and friendly. I come to the culebra location every time I come to SA and so far I haven't gotten disappointed. Sweet bread and service was great but ambiance was a little dirty. Or somehow getting rid of all the flies would feel less dirty.

I really want to like la popular bakery, however the quality and freshness isn't as good as a grocery store or donut shop. This la popular bakery is better than the Marbach rd location (zero stars). This location had the cute little cakes. It's a yellow cake with a custard or strawberry filling. We purchased an assortment of powder and coconut on the sides with custard and jelly. They look very nice. The yellow cake is not moist or satisfying. The jelly is okay. The custard was okay. I wanted more jelly and custard than the cake since the cake was dry. The eclair was much better than the other la popular, it at least had filling. The slice with jelly filling was like the lamest pie slice you will ever taste. Shipley is more satisfying. La popular is disappointing. read more

I had a pleasant experience. The staff was nice the lobby was clean. They have a bench if you need to wait. The sweet bread was fresh and was very good. It's convenient to go pick up your sweets and keep going with your day. I had them put in the box i don't like it in a bag that's just me lol The prices are good not too expensive. read more

Has been our FAVORITE sweet bread place for many years. I bought A LOT of sweet bread for visiting family. While eating a sugary donut one of our guests felt movement in her mouth; spit out a piece that had a maggot worm in it. I have pictures and video. I took all the bread back to the store only to be told it was impossible and I was a liar. I just wanted my money back and brought ALL the bread back. Owner was nasty and told me he'd give me my money back but never go back there again. It's a shame. This could've gone differently. Maybe at least say they'd take a look at the shelves for cleanliness or something else. Anyway, I wouldn't be going back there to begin with after this experience. read more

This is as real as you can get. Old fashion real Mexican pan dulce! Living in Dallas I have only found bakeries selling Americanized "pan dulce". The panaderia I use to go burned down awhile back. I haven't had any luck finding any places in Dallas. So I was ecstatic when we came across this place while visiting San Antonio. Oh my goodness! It's good! The empanadas are amazing. It had the perfect ratio of bread and filling. Conchas and donuts also delicious. Soft and moist. Very fresh. The only downside...it's in San Antonio. Tears. This is the best bakery I've ever been to. I'd do anything for it to be a chain all over Texas. The strawberry rolled triangle slices are delicious. This is one of the best bakery's San Antonio. Once you step inside you are reminded of the place where your parents use to take you to pick up pan-dulce and tortillas. Hands down the best heart sugar cookies, best gingerbread pigs, pumpkin empanadas, and my ultimate favorite are the cinnamon cookies that look like a dollop of heavenly goodness and crumbles into your mouth at every bite!
