Busy this morning. Waited in line for meat market. The number machine was empty so I had to watch…read morepeople leave to keep my place in line. Ten people later my turn. Asked for 3lbs ground beef. Showed me taco meat. No I need ground beef. I asked Butcher to help me choose from the prepackaged ground beef. Apparently foodsco does not ground their own. Only sell in prepackaged I told him I don't trust it fresh. Last two times it was taken home and no good. Smart this time got to car. Punched open pack of meet and it was no good. Smelled like rotten eggs got a refund. This is the third time within four months this has happened. From now on going to buy ground beef from Farmers Market in Gonzales. It was fresh and five dollars less than foodsco. At foodsco if you buy ground beef and the plastic on top is a tight balloon I bet it is rotten. Happened to me three times

I went through the checkout line as usual, and once I was given my total, I gently placed a $20…read morebill on the register where the cashier could easily pick it up. At no point did I throw the money, toss it at her, or behave in a rude or malicious manner. When the cashier, Andrea G., gave me my change, she placed it on the checkout belt. I had no issue with that. However, there were several coins included in my change, and before I had finished gathering all of it, she began placing another customer's groceries onto the same belt. I politely said, "Excuse me, my change is under there," because the other customer's groceries were being placed where my change was. Andrea responded, "It's over there," in a manner that I felt was unnecessarily dismissive and rude. At that point, I told her, "You're being extremely rude." I want to be very clear that I was respectful throughout the transaction. I did not throw money at her or treat her disrespectfully. My concern arose from the way my change was handled and the way I was spoken to when I tried to retrieve it.

My dad especially likes the chile rellano and chile verde plates, however, he recently tried the carne asada fries and said they were a hit as well! The 2nd star goes to the bakery section: my dad and I have slowly worked our way through the desserts, all of which are fresh and so delicious....I especially love the tres leches (cake or cup, its worth the taste). The selection of pan dulces is always plentiful, and the bolillo is on point!!! The 3rd star goes to the butcher section/ meat counter: my dad and I love picking out different meat to take home. I especially love the HUGE chicken breasts! The selection is always plentiful and fresh! Why I couldn't give 2 more stars: 1. the staff here is always so friendly and helpful, but there are a select few (1 bakery, 1 taqueria, occasionally a cashier) that seem like they would rather die than have to speak to me. I may be a white little country girl, but I'm also half Mexican and it seems some of the staff likes to throw a little shade at me like I'm not good enough to order from them or speak to them....in which case a customer is a customer no matter the race or culture. 2. The grocery selection is very basic, which is a bummer because the only other market in Gonzales is nil in comparison. We often have to resort to do most of our shopping in Salinas or Soledad, when we would much prefer to shop locally and make Sante Fe our primary grocery.

Carnitas plate to go $16.30…read more The CARNITAS were DRY, SMALL, SHREDDED CRUMBS. Texture of dry shredded wheat cereal. Not what anyone would buy. Terrible. The corn tortillas were hot but stale like they've been out all day. The beans, rice, salad topped with pico and three slices of avocado were delicious. So were the red and green salsas. The main dish was a FAIL. I posted a picture of what was tossed into the garbage. Make sure you open your to go food to check for freshness. I trusted Santa Fe to provide quality out the door. A Mexican food place that doesn't sell quality Carnitas. The service was quick without a smile nor a hello. The employees were speaking Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish you can't work here. If you don't know English you can work here. The store was full of neatly stacked fruits and vegetables. Clean store.
