Nice little neighborhood place. We went twice in one day - for lunch and dinner!
They have a nice patio with umbrellas over the tables. There are a few too many pigeons hanging around because some silly people feed them so they get used to eating the food left on the tables or given to them.
For lunch we had fried calamari - we love fried calamary but haven't had any this good in three or four years. They were light, with crispy breading and very tender. The strange thing is that they are called rabad and I thought they were frog legs when someone mentioned that the restaurant had good ones. But luckily they had a picture of a promotion for two beers and a plate of fried rabas so we ordered it! We also had an individual size crispy pancetta and arugula pizza. It had just enough tomato to give it flavor but not overpower the pancetta. They also threw four whole purple olives on top - of course with the pits still inside!
For dinner we split a small fugazetta empanada - that's the flavor of choice here - that is mozzarella, sautéed onions and some all of oil, this also had some ham. It was very tasty but small for 33 pesos. It is Neapolitan style so the center crust is flimsy and you need to support the bottom of it otherwise the toppings fall off on the way to your plate.
My better half ordered the chicken Suprema Charcas (that's the name of the street this is on) which was a Finley pounded chicken breast breaded and fried top with slices of ham and mozzarella cheese and then browned. It was delicious. It was also served with a hard-boiled egg cut into a slice of tomato and some peas on the plate. Large plate full of perfectly cooked thick cut french fries and two onion rings accompanied his chicken.
Unfortunately my order was not so good. It was merluza (it whitefish very popular in Spain) and it was served with a nice cream and wine sauce but the fish itself was way too fishy. It was perfectly cooked however and it was a huge portion - probably at least 8 ounces of fish. It came with steamed vegetables which were very tender - broccoli, spinach, a small round green squash they serve here I don't know the name of and some pumpkin.
Service was very good, and all of the servers and the guy in charge you could tell as he was coming to the front as people entered to tell them where to sit was very nice as well. We also had a bottle of wine and the total cost was 818 pesos - about $42.
The place is very crowded with families and people tend to eat a little bit earlier in this neighborhood. We came at 8:40 and it was nearly full, only two tables open. After that people were starting to wait for a table. They do a pretty good carry out business on the pizza as well. read more
