The owner had us jump through several rounds of hoops/interviews/aspects of the application process, only to visit our home yesterday and decide our neighborhood (note: not us, not our actual home specifically, but the neighborhood itself) wasn't appropriate for an adoption. (Worth noting - our address was included on the initial adoption form...) The owner (Jasmin) did not even have the decency to even call us to confirm we weren't accepted to adopt the dog, but instead posts a Facebook picture immediately after leaving our home, saying that the dog is available. I followed up with her via email today, and received the below in response. How does how other owners care (or don't care) for their pets have any impact at all on my abilities as a potential pet owner? No idea... "I am so sorry about yesterday. I was ready to adopt Eloise to you. It is the neighborhood that concerns me. My rescue friend adopted a dog to someone who paid a lot of money ($450) for the dog in the same neighborhood. The dog was hit by a car and dumped at North Central Shelter. My rescue friend got the dog back and had to pay a lot of medical bills as he had a broken leg. After I left, there was a chihuahua with out any collar walking down the street. I mention that the final adoption is determined on the home check as photos let me know if we should continue on. I feel that you would be great adopters, but I will not adopt to the neighborhood.." Sitting here heartbroken, and disappointed that despite being great dog owners (which she even concedes to in her note) we're still being discriminated against. Hollywood and city residents, please do not apply I guess... http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/East-Hollywood-woman-heartbroken-dog-adoption-application-is-denied-after-rescue-group-founder-deems-neighborhood-unsuitable-293757721.html

Horrified! Just…read moreawful. Extremely disappointed in Saving K9 Lives. The owner Jasmin seemed more interested in interrogating my personal life asking about my relationship status/future possible marriage plans (Seriously?), rather than informing me about the puppy's needs. Not to mention she was so keen on selling her "only sold in England" products to people. I tried to hide my disgust since the other ladies were very nice. So today I decided to write a review to save some of you from disappointment. Had I read these reviews prior to sending my adoption application and attending the meet/greet I would've avoided this scam entirely! So this past Saturday Claims: 1) Want what is "best" for the puppy 2) Told that they wanted to consider all applicants thoroughly (since there were a few others). And since Jasmin's birthday was on Monday, she wouldn't review any applicants until Tuesday/Wednesday. She made that clear by saying that twice. So I felt reassured. Reality: 1) Who is willing to offer "pay" the most for this puppy? 2) Puppy was apparently adopted on Sunday. Period. I would never recommend them to anyone who is looking to adopt.

I saw Harper and went to one of the adoption fairs. I first signed up as a foster. Fostering was free and I had two week periods to foster and help dogs socialize at home peacefully before being adopted. Food was provided and one of the responsibility is dropping them off at the adoption fairs. As you can assume, I went back to the adoption fairs only to start the adoption process. The organization truly cares about their dogs, making sure they get the best medical treatment and are placed in the right homes. There is no pressure in adopting the dogs so if you are only capable of committing a short amount of time, they express nothing but gratitude. They finalize the adoption by doing a home inspection, making sure the home and family are suitable for their rescues. My parents have also adopted a dog a few weeks later and the whole experience was organized, comfortable and smooth. I highly recommend fostering, donating to DWB and/or volunteering in this organization. Their staff and network of volunteers are truly angels .

My husband primarily dealt with them on the admin side of things, so I wanted to comment on how they appear to choose their foster parents really well. The woman who fostered the dog we adopted was amazing. She really cared and helped Chloe and Nicole be selective about the best home for what has turned out to be the best little dog ever. DWB rescued him from a South LA shelter and he has very happily landed in a loving home with us. We worked with a few organizations while looking for a rescue pup and I would be happy to work with them again if and when the need arises. Always remember to adopt don't shop!!

We had a very disappointing experience at Pet Orphans of Southern California. We adopted a dog…read morethrough spcaLA and were referred there for his neuter procedure, which was required as part of the adoption agreement. The issues began at drop-off. I arrived on time at 8:30 a.m., but there was a long line of owners and dogs waiting outside. Many of the dogs appeared to be puppies, fosters, or newly adopted pets still adjusting and difficult to manage. I waited approximately 20 minutes while trying to control my 65-pound dog. When I reached the front, staff said they had no record of our appointment and asked, in an unprofessional manner, whether I had completed the intake form that was supposedly emailed to me. I had never received it. I was then handed paperwork to complete on-site while continuing to manage my dog in a crowded environment. On the form, I disclosed that my dog had been experiencing chronic diarrhea since being picked up as a stray, that we were actively working with our veterinarian to identify the cause, and that our veterinarian had cleared him for surgery. Staff then told me they would not proceed if he had diarrhea. I explained that this condition predated the adoption, that the neuter was required by the shelter, and that we had already obtained veterinary clearance. Staff repeatedly went back and forth between me and the veterinarian before eventually presenting a high-risk consent form. The communication around this was especially concerning. When the form was presented, I was told that by signing it, I was accepting that if anything happened to my dog, it would be my fault. I understand that additional risks can exist, but this was handled in a dismissive and inappropriate manner. If the clinic had sent the intake paperwork in advance or reviewed the medical concerns beforehand, this could have been addressed prior to my driving an hour from West Adams to Van Nuys with a dog who does not travel well. I was also disappointed that additional charges were presented for items such as an e-collar, pain medication, and IV fluids. For a required adoption procedure, these added costs felt excessive. Pick-up was similarly poor. When my dog was returned, a staff member commented, "Make sure to take care of the diarrhea because he still has it," despite our earlier detailed discussion of the condition and treatment plan. While loading him into the car, I noticed feces on his cone, tail, and legs. This suggested he had soiled himself and had not been adequately cleaned before discharge, which was both upsetting and concerning from a sanitation and post-operative care standpoint. Overall, this experience reflected poor communication, lack of professionalism, and inadequate attention to patient care. I would not return to Pet Orphans of Southern California and would not recommend this clinic to others. I also plan to share this experience with spcaLA so they are aware of the concerns regarding this referral partnership.

Post that phone call, my feelings about the way she handled herself Changed, and I was wary of her. Despite her assertion that I had no idea what I was looking for, I told her precisely what I was looking for: a bonded pair of cats that were a little older, say two years old or older. I had just lost my cat and my dog. I had also just lost my husband. All this within four months. I found my house too quiet without the pets and my husband, and that is why I reached out to Rhae. I wanted something to care for, a bonded pair of cats seemed exactly what I needed, having had cats all of my life. I never bad mouthed other rescue organizations, other than mentioning the southern golden retriever organization from whom my husband and I adopted two fabulous golden retrievers. While the dogs were great, the organization was not. Unfortunately, I am in very good company as pertains to being dissatisfied with that group, and I only mentioned it to Rhae when she specifically asked me if I had worked with other organizations. The forum of yelp asks for reviews. They do not ask for only positive reviews, they asked for both negative and positive, and I have given both, so on that issue and only that issue, Rhae was correct. The vetting of my house was not done by Rhae, it was done by the other woman, and we had a delightful time. Rhae is clearly a bitter and unhappy human being who calls anyone slightly older than she "elderly. "Indeed, I have let my hair go salt and pepper since Covid. That does not make me elderly. Indeed, I shared with Rhae that I had a major back surgery the year before, which is why kittens were out of the question because I could not bend as often as they might need me to. That does not make me elderly. That makes me aware of the limitations of my body and reluctant to jeopardize my health. That also makes me someone who wants to completely fulfill the needs of whatever cats I adopt. Don't believe Rhae's gaslighting. It is as fake as she is.
