For the last year, our teachers have been Jeremiah and Suzanne, and they have truly been excellent. My kids' swimming skills have grown so much with them. They are incredibly patient, while also being encouraging and determined to help the kids improve and gain confidence in the water. As a parent, it makes me so happy to watch my kids thrive in their classes. The connection and friendship they've built with the children is really incredible to see. Le Petite Baleen has been a great experience so far. We've been with them since March 2025 (referred by a friend). The kiddos currently have Martin and Aidan as their swim instructors for Levels 5 and 4, respectively, and we could not be more grateful for them. Both teachers are incredibly patient, kind, encouraging, and fun, which makes every class something the kids genuinely look forward to each week. What stands out most is how dedicated they are to helping each child grow with confidence. Under their guidance and support, I've been able to see noticeable improvements in my children's swimming skills week after week. Over the years I have also worked as a nanny for many families in the area, and I have brought several kids to La Petite Baleen to learn how to swim. Every experience has been wonderful. The instructors are patient, encouraging, and truly great with children, which makes such a difference when kids are learning something new in the water. This review is long overdue...I enrolled both my sons back when they were 6 and 4 years old. My older son, who is now 9, graduated last summer when he was 8 years old. My younger one is now 7 and is 2 ribbons away from graduating. Teachers Martin, Nico, Zack, Tina, and Theresa have been phenomenal. Whenever we run into a family asking us about teacher preference, I never hesitate to provide them. My younger son currently has Teacher Theresa and he truly enjoys the class. He looks forward to swim class every week. I also really like how they have 2 makeup classes per quarter. Both of my daughters (currently levels 3 and 4) are going through the LPB swim program in San Bruno and started in level 1 and in the parent and me class. My son started here when he was only 2 months old, and as a new parent, the staff has been so understanding and accommodating with us since the beginning. My daughter has been enrolled at LPB SB since she was a year old, and we've had several wonderful instructors along the way, as well as a few who weren't the best fit. But this instructor in particular has truly been able to help our daughter understand the basics of swimming in a fun, collaborative, and age-appropriate way. I'm not sure if this location is just not well run but we've had a lot of teacher turnover and our kids seem stuck without much progress for months. This was a good swim school for intro swimming (first few levels) but I feel like once you get to level 4/5 it's better to transfer somewhere else. Both our kids did not get timely corrections on what they needed to learn so they developed bad habits. We are 3.5 years into our swimming journey and the kids can't really do any of the basic strokes correctly. I just had a progress check in and had to explain to the deck staff that yes my younger daughter has been working on the same one skill for 3 months now and she's so bored of these lessons she's starting to throw a fit and doesn't even want to go anymore. My older daughter's class she's usually on the wall for half the class for a strokes class. I used to swim competitively as a kid and I don't remember having to learn the elementary backstroke, side stroke, etc. it just seems like a way to keep the kids in these lessons for several extra years. And yes, my swim team leader at the time was an Olympic medalist so I think he knew what we needed to learn? Extremely frustrated and wouldn't recommend. read more

An update to my last review - my kids have been coming to La Petite Baleen consistently for some time now and they absolutely love it. They are always looking forward to earning their next ribbon and never want to get out of the pool when the lesson is complete. All the teachers we've experienced have been great, but a special shout out to Teacher Mario! While the cost per session is not cheap, you can save some money by attending a class during off peak hours, which is during the weekday and before school is out. You also get two free make ups each season (every quarter), which basically act as two additional, free sessions you can take. You don't need to miss a normal, recurring session in order to use the makeup session. So I always make sure to take advantage of those makeups! It's also a good way to try out different class times/different teachers as each individual will have their own style and approach. I think all the teachers here have been trained well and well vetted to make sure that they have not just the technical skills to teach swimming, but also the EQ skills to deal with little kids who range in personalities, attention spans, and skill level. The teachers are always so patient in dealing with the students and they always have extra staff walking around the pool who can step in and help if a child is being more unruly or emotional. The online portal is easy to use and I always get a response back pretty quick. read more

We have had 3 little whales in LPB San Bruno for almost 15 years and love this school! My children can swim safely and confidently after finishing their levels at LPB. Both of my older kids who graduated from the program were able to pass swim tests on the first try for various activities and recreation centers, and I have peace of mind knowing that they have the right skills but also respect the water too. My younger one is now in level 4 with Jillian and we love how much attention she pays to making sure that he's learning each skill correctly. We've been swimming here nonstop since 2016. My bank account cries, but it's been worth the investment. I am very grateful for teacher Nick's work with all of our kids over the last ten years. When we first signed up for his class back when my oldest child was an infant, someone at the desk described him as a "coach type." I laughed; how do you coach a baby? To be honest I was just there for the free lessons before 6 months. Well, a decade later, that baby has graduated LPB but we are still orienting our family schedule around swim classes with Nick. He's an excellent teacher who takes his role seriously and provides individualized insights. Having tried a lot of the other teachers over the years, there is a great deal of variation in teaching skills, but Nick is the absolute best. read more

We've been coming here for years, and Rocio and Angelica are both absolutely amazing. They have always made our kids feel comfortable and confident in the water, both with us and now independently. Our kids have learned so much over the years thanks to their patience, encouragement, and incredible teaching skills. We highly recommend them to any family looking for great swim instructors. The only downside is that the chlorine levels in the pool can sometimes be extremely strong and have caused skin irritation for our family. This is the go to place to go if you want your children to learn how to swim. Everyone is amazing here at the San Bruno location. The teachers are amazing. Teacher Nico is with my Level 3 child and he takes his time to explain what he needs to do and he is very patient with the kids. My son enjoys coming to swim class because Nico makes it fun while learning. My other child is in Level 4 with teacher Shiloh. Shiloh is also amazing. She takes her time to teach and explains the correct way to do things. She also makes swimming fun. Progress reports are explained in full detail with what they need to work on to get a ribbon. My 4-year-old son started lessons 2 months ago, and my only regret is not having started sooner! He was really scared of water and cried a lot during the first two classes, but I was impressed by Javen's calm and professionalism. Now, he is so excited to go every week and loves showing me how he can put his head underwater. We just moved up to another teacher, Aiden (because he passed level 2). My son was nervous about changing teachers, but Aiden was amazing and made him feel comfortable within minutes.
