But this experience completely changed that. A huge part of that is thanks to Kelly, the owner. She is incredibly patient, calm, and intuitive as a coach. She meets you exactly where you are, never rushes the process, and somehow knows exactly how to help you push past fear without feeling overwhelmed. The environment is supportive, encouraging, and completely judgment-free--something that makes all the difference when you're learning as an adult. If you've ever been hesitant or afraid of the water, I can honestly say this place can help you overcome it. Exceptional facility, outstanding coaches. Grateful doesn't even begin to cover it. Highly recommend.

My daughter had tried group swim lessons previously with another organization, but never got comfortable with the most basic skills like putting her face in the water. Shawn was patient, encouraging, and did a great job balancing when to push and when to give my daughter a break while she was trying something new and difficult. By the end of the lessons, my daughter was so comfortable in the water that the biggest challenge was getting her to keep her head out of water long enough to listen to the next instruction! My daughter looked forward to every lesson and always wanted to keep swimming at the end of the lesson. We did 12 lessons, 45 minutes each, three times a week, and it was the perfect way to start the summer by building a strong foundation from which we will keep practicing on our own. Highly recommend Shawn for young kids who need individualized instruction and confidence in the water.

They are located in a residential neighborhood and the only downside is the parking. Naturally, the residents do not want people going to the school to park in front of their homes and tend to leave their garbage cans etc. out on the street so get there early to find parking. The club itself does not have onsite parking. I looked at their website and called them because I could seem to be able to create an account and Joe, who answered, was very helpful. It turned out that I needed to use a different browser. The price is $140/month with a $45 one time registration fee. There are no makeup classes, which is also a downside. The pool itself is clean, with instructors in every lane. There were 3 kids assigned to the instructor that day with a max of 4. The instructors were patient and knowledgeable. There was one point of contact who was evaluating the swimmers and providing instructions. There is plenty of space for parents to hang out during the half hour class or you can leave but they ask that you stay close in case of an emergency. There are showers and loaner swim goggles and caps. They are close to the Cabana Club pool.

She's been fantastic about working on improving my kids' strokes so they are more efficient in the water, and my wife and I really like her. As for waterworks itself, it's very customer oriented in our experience and we've been quite happy. Where they lose a star with me has to do with a couple things. First, the curriculum is very much focused on the standard swim sport strokes. This is great through breast stroke, but I think there could be more focus on more practical and survival skills (notably, teaching side stroke, more emphasis on treading water, and survival floats). Second, the Sunnyvale location has had a lot of closures for various reasons. I acknowledge it's been out of WW's hands, but it's a drag to go all the way to the San Jose Bascom location (which is actually kinda awesome as there's a free play pool).

Two of the three instructors we had were great, however, one of the instructors left our 4 yr old daughter unattended with their back turned to her while working with another child (typically the other instructors would put her on their back). My daughter then got out of the pool to find a pool toy that they normally play with during their time and was very close to the edge to the point of almost falling in (if she fell in she would have drowned as it was too deep for her to stand in). This lasted for a good five minutes with both my husband and I watching and close. I walked over to my daughter and instructed her to sit on the edge and wait and then asked the instructor for a safer alternative for her. As we have been going to this swim school for some time I called customer service moreso as a safety concern as if we had not been watching her so closely this could have easily turned into a drowning incident with the instructor halfway down the pool with her back turned. We never received a call back. We were overall very disappointed at the lack of response both from the instructor and the swim school.
