My bf had a minor sinus procedure today and no, it wasn't rhinoplasty although he was hoping for that too lol. He had Julio in pre op and said he was AWESOME. I had the pleasure of meeting the post op nurse Bridgett and she was so empathetic and helpful! I would have given La Peer Surgery Center 5 stars had I not had to deal with their billing department - where my original out of pocket quote changed the day before my procedure. But I don't want that experience to overshadow the superb facility itself. Absolutely the most flawless experience from beginning to end once I entered the facility. Registration - Zaira fabulous / Julio - Nurse - beyond the best you could ever have. Ask for him if at all possible. Normally the IV hurts. Not this time. Didn't feel a thing. He is outstanding on every level. Sophie - Operative Procedure staff - great. Recovery room - Kelsey - excellent. Anesthesiologist - outstanding. And of course my GI - Dr Tabib. Very nice staff. Easy checkin. I had some major complications to my prep and the anesthesiologist and my doctor both decided to cancel the planned procedure based on my labs when I arrived at the facility. The surgical center refunded my fee, which they didn't have to do as I still took up a time slot and was fully prepped for the procedure. I didn't even have to call to ask for it. That's first class in my opinion and I would absolutely come back. My health came first before profit and I wasn't charged for a procedure that didn't happen and I didn't even have to advocate. THE BEST CARE and STAFF! I cannot say enough great things about this surgery center! From prompt check in with Zaira to Amanda walking us out, we were treated so kindly and professionally with a lot of compassion. Kaley was our pre- op nurse who was kind and professional. She made us feel very comfortable and at ease. Erica, our Anesthesiologist was excellent. We briefly met Danielle and David prior to colonoscopy and they were very reassuring. Amanda... sweet Amanda. She helped us after the procedure. Called us when it was done, took care of our mom like she was her own. You want to see her sweet and kind face when you come out of anesthesia. Dr Zaghiyan is AMAZING. Not only is she the best Dr but her bedside manner is so gentle, kind and compassionate. I'll start with my only quibble: they occasionally have scheduling conflicts and delays. When it comes to the patient experience one you're there, everyone is friendly, helpful and professional. They check and double-check to ensure patient safety. They explain everything they're doing before they do it. Dr. Sanchez did my most recent anesthesia - one moment awake, the next waking up after procedure, with an easy recovery. I really could not have imagined a more seamless and positive experience than my most recent visit, and from what I overheard with other patients' interactions, all the same. It just seems like a well-run business that hires positive, professional people. No one wants surgery, but if you have to have it, hope for a place like this. read more

This is my 2nd colonoscopy and honestly the best experience ever! First off - Dr. Liza Capiendo is an incredible doctor in so many ways. She is highly knowledgable in her field and takes the time to explain everything and alleviate your anxieties. Her bed side manner is incredible - she is very caring. Dr. Capiendo was there before the procedure and there when I woke up to explain everything in a way that I could understand. The surgery center is wonderful - From check in to check out the experience was smooth and fast and everyone has a smile on their face. Very clean and well equipped. Honestly better than being in a hospital. The nurses Barbara, Amelie, Susie and Renee were so caring and made sure I was very comfortable. Thank you Susie! You are the pillow fluffer queen! LOL I've had sedation before and I DO NOT like it but kudos to Gary the anesthesiologist who made sure I had the best sleep ever. I had my procedure this morning. Check in was smooth, I was taken back in a timely manner and my nurse was the best, she was super kind and listened to my concerns and was able to answer all of my questions. I have some mental trauma from previous medical issues and I get really scared going into any procedures or surgery centers. I felt at ease here, the staff all had awesome bedside manners. This has to be by far the worst medical center. Their staff are untrained, unprofessionals and their manager Quintella Bigham is even worse. I spoke to her few times and she's just rude and aggressive. She can definitely use some training on customer service. Terrible service provided and she made me feel uncomfortable. La Peer Medical Center is not the facility for you or your loved ones to do any procedure. They are not gentle and they will throw you or your loved ones around. I had a procedure done here in early 2021, only because my doctor said it would take months to be able to get on the surgical schedule at the hospital bc of how things were functioning during COVID. I was concerned because I'd read reviews of people getting ridiculous bills from La Peer post op. I did my due diligence and called to get a quote beforehand and called anesthesia separately, which was linked to a much larger organization because they asked what state I was having surgery in. All in all I was given a reasonable estimate for this minor procedure. I was still wary of what I'd read online and felt something was off. Things went fine the day of the procedure, but then, weeks later, I got a bill for upwards of $60,000! I practically had a heart attack that a 30-minute procedure could warrant a $60,000-bill. Oh, and that was just the patient responsibility. The actual charges were more than $80,000. I have had a $60,000 surgery before. And it wasn't for something simple. Bones were broken and reset, stem cells injected, and at a world-renowned hospital no less. What I'd had done at La Peer was marginally more complicated than going to the dentist! I called in a panic and they assured me that that was not what I would be charged but that, "They had to send me the letter." Confusion set in, and I got two more letters. Still, they said all was squared away for the original, "reasonable" price. The letters stopped and my case was closed. Now, a year on, I got a letter from my insurance company who is auditing La Peer. No kidding. Something is definitely amiss at La Peer. If you'd like a serving of billing insanity with your surgery come here. I just can't feel good about a place that's clearly doing something super sketchy with billing. read more

The worst experience my Father could of had.!!! My father went for a procedure on Monday, our kindly driver took him. My father states that the nurse asked him multiple questions that are reasonable. But for a nurse to ask him how much cash he has? Can she go to vegas with it? Can he show her the cash? (which he did), then is sent home with no wallet.! Really.!!!!!! We call the place and they do nothing to presuit investigation, they care less and say wallet is not here. 1. Nurse jokes 2. Lead stickers left on him 3. I received zero contact from La Peer before my surgery. The day of my surgery I was assigned a nurse who I could not understand. She seemed nice but the language barrier was really awful, and it was stressful enough to be there without not being able to understand her. I had to keep apologizing to her, as this was a scary enough situation to be in, without additionally having to ask her to repeat herself. She then questioned me about my credit cards (which I did not bring as my doctor collected what they said was the total $$$ for everything up front). This put her into a "tither" and she kept getting more upset that I did not have credit cards with me - she said she needed to charge me for blood tests. Sorry - they should have DISCLOSED THAT BEFORE I arrived, and was laying helpless on a gurney with no pocketbook! The whole pre-op experience was very stressful and unnecessary. I kept asking her to call my doctor's office as they had both my insurance information and my credit card information, but she kept saying she "couldn't do that". She just kept lecturing me about me not having credit cards; there was nothing more I could do to appease this woman. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone because of how she treated me, never mind having to ask her to repeat herself many times because I did not speak her language. read more

Bad customer service , over price, and old place. They demanded up front payment even though I already met the deductible on my PPO insurance. It is very difficult to ask for a refund, and the billing department never answers the phone. I got my refund over 7 months after the service. I don't recommend this facility. My doctor is great but unfortunately this place was a total joke. The nurses are so rude. I was coming out of anesthesia, almost choking on my own blood or whatever what's on my throat and the nurses had no empathy at all. Overall terrible experience. It sucks if your surgeon picks this place. Plus it's just old and run down. Specifically for high prices on a BH location on top of it the anesthesiologist was the coldest dude haha at some point I had to tell him to not kill me as a joke since he's attitude was just creepy emotionless and cold. read more

This was not my first rodeo when it comes to surgery--but it will be the last time I go to LA PEER. I don't know if it's the nature of Covid, but this was a mess. I'll start from the beginning.... I spent the time at home filling out paperwork before my procedure digitally. They couldn't find the electronic file, so I had to spend another 15 minutes outside filling out the same paperwork. I was told to be at the surgical center by 7am--and was waiting outside until 8:10. This makes no sense during Covid. They should be scheduling so patients are not waiting together during a pandemic. The pre-procedure prep was fine. Standard. Clothes off and in a bag. I was made to confirm all the paperwork. They said my ride would receive a call 30-min before my procedure was finished. I was wheeled in and out I went. When I woke up. No one was there. I was in an incredible amount of pain and with what voice I had left ( because of the anesthesia), I had to call for someone to come multiple times. The nurse (blond woman) was incredibly curt and short to someone who had just woken up from surgery. She provided little to no information about how the procedure went and what I was meant to do for care for sutures, sleeping, medication...anything. She handed me my bag of clothes and ASKED ME IF MY RIDE WAS COMING?! WHAT? I literally just woke up from a surgery and you didn't call my ride contact? I had to drowsily find my phone and call my boyfriend who was in a panic because they hadn't called him and he thought my surgery was going an hour over. She left me to get dressed alone. For reference my abdomen had just been cut open. I rolled as best I could out of the bed and put my clothes on in one of the most painful moments I've had. After I was halfway dressed, she then asked if I needed help? At this point, it was useless. She asked for someone to bring a wheelchair. I told her my ride was coming--no thanks to anyone there. He came to get me and we were given no care instructions. I have 3 incisions...two still bleeding and have no idea what I am supposed to do? I get some of this comes down to my doctor--but this facility is not equipped to handle this many patients in a pandemic. If you can't give proper care to even 1 patient, you need to reassess your structure and management. It was negligent. *Side not--I mentioned to a nurse that a man wearing a hanker-chief needed to be given a real mask. This was unsafe for patients and medical staff. She refused to ask and said it's his choice. Really frustrating. read more

I was extremely scared to come get surgery here after reading the reviews on Google , but I'm so glad I did and I'm so glad I didn't let that stop me, they must've been people that were not in network that I've been leaving terrible reviews, my insurance was in network so I paid my deductible and my co-pay, the first nurse was pretty stern but she was extremely friendly she just knew that a job needed to be done, so she got it done. The nurses and anesthesiologist were awesome and my doctor is frankly amazing, they kindly answered every question I asked and when I was having trouble at the end of surgery the nurse who was with me after didn't make me feel like I was impeding on her day, she helped me until I felt comfortable. I've saved all my receipts and I'm hoping I don't get a bill in the future, that's a couple thousand dollars worth, that seems to be what everybody's reviewing about but just based off of the service I received from the staff here, five stars for me. This place took care of me so well. I went in for surgery and since I arrived the receptionist was very nice. Explained everything thoroughly- even though she was busy.. then I was greeted by a nurse, I think her name was Carlett, and she made me feel at ease (because I was nervous). But she was so nurturing. After that I was greeted by two more nurses who would be taking care of me in the O.R- I can't remember their names because of all the meds now lol but even the anesthesiologist was amazing. All of this because of my doctor (Dr. Gutierrez) who recommended this place, I owe her everything! Lastly another nurse, Amanda/Jennifer -The nurses who took care of me after the operation was angel. I was so out of it and queasy from the meds and in pain but she made sure I wasn't rushed and fed me and gave me liquids + food. I'm so thankful for everyone. Thank you! read more

I've been to LA Peer Surgical Center a number of times now. Let's start with the good. My doctor is awesome. I'm grateful to have found him and I really want to keep him. Also the anesthesiologist today was gentle and kind. That said, each time I've gone there, I'm less impressed and I'm inclined not to return if humanly possible. Besides the fact that it's old, seedy and needs much better air circulation, I was stunned by the ridiculously poor nursing I had pre and post procedure. Communication, communication, communication and the nurses I had today had none. Post-procedure, I wasn't offered juice, water or even a cracker. I got up to go to the bathroom and I was moved out of my recovery bed, into a chair in the middle of the nurses station. I've very recently had my 14th back surgery, am still on crutches and they couldn't have made me feel less physically comfortable. They also failed to call my ride home, so I sat in the middle of all that commotion, feeling awful from the procedure plus my back for 1-1/4 hours. When we did reach the person to drive me home, my nurse told me my driver was in the middle of something and couldn't leave. That was not true. On the fly, I had to get another ride home. Finally, my pre-op nurse and the one who gets the IV in thought it was funny to call me by a name I don't go by... never use. Yes, a legal name ,but no one ever calls me that, it's not my name and I explained if I'm not called by my actual name, I won't respond under anesthesia. One of them deliberately called my by that name post-procedure and said, "See! You do respond." What are we? 12 years old?! Maybe they're just too busy ~ roll em in, roll em out. I will move heaven and earth not to return here. Hopefully that won't mean having to find another doctor to accomplish that. read more

I accompanied my father for an outpatient procedure. I was not allowed inside because of Covid-19 precautions but I found the general staff to be helpful and friendly. One thing that was not too great was the parking garage which I found a bit confusing. The exit (which may be a temporary one) is uphill and quite steep, so I would advise everybody to take precaution entering and exiting the parking area. read more

I prepared for it, had someone flown in to take care of my kids, spent money on prescriptions for the procedure, only to be told two days before that my procedure has been cancelled due to a "scheduled OR maintenance". Unfortunately, most patients don't have a choice when they use La Peer Health Systems -- because patients need to go to the surgery facilities that their doctors tell them to go to. Our experience suggests that La Peer views its customers as the doctors who use its facilities and not the patients who are treated there, because the patient experience seems an afterthought. We've been here a few times and it's just maddening. They have voicemails that are either full or automatically hang up on you. Even if you find a voicemail that's not full, which likely won't be for a voicemail box tied to the department that you want to reach, they take 1+ week to call back. (Does anyone out there think that taking 1+ to return a medically-related call is ok?) When you arrive for your appointment, you spend 10 mins filling out paperwork and signing contracts...and they don't give you copies of anything that you've signed (which sounds illegal). Etc. I had surgery here in December and I had such a great and smooth experience! I won't lie, at first I was really scared I was going to get a huge terrifying bill like some of these other reviewers, but I did SO much preparation for my surgery with this to make sure this wouldn't happen to me. I reached out to their Biller/Appeals Clerk, a LOVELY woman by the name of Monica, about a month before my surgery to make sure they accepted my health insurance and how much I would be looking at potentially paying out of pocket after my surgery. Monica was SO patient with me and answered all of my questions when I explained my anxiety about getting a large bill like some of these other reviewers. Life Rule: The most important thing you can do is to ALWAYS make sure your insurance covers whatever it is that you are doing BEFORE your procedure/doctor visit/etc. That way, you do your homework first so you won't be in a situation where you have to "foot the bill." :) I just want to take a second to say how much I appreciate Monica! She was so incredibly helpful throughout my whole pre-op! She is so kind and even saved me having to pay the bill I got mailed to me after my surgery because she explained I had already paid it when I checked in on the day of my surgery! Who doesn't love that! This place is super clean, the nurses are kind and wonderful, and the front staff/check in staff are great as well! Overall, a really great experience here! The whole process was a disaster. My surgery was scheduled for 7:15 in the morning. However after getting there and checking in I was told oh there was another procedure that ran along which means it would be an hour before mine. However I also heard the nurses over talking that my doctor was not even there yet. So 3 hours later at 10:00 she finally shows up. I go into surgery which seemed to go fine but since I was anesthesia I'm not sure. And when I come out they apparently have lost my glasses. They took like 5 minutes to try to act concern and then it was like get out of your room so we can clean it. For the next person. Some people there had a complete lack of people skills and they were unconcerned that they were losing items that people brought into the hospital. They were more concerned about turning over rooms to move on to the next person. I would not recommend going back to this place. read more

The average price of a colonoscopy is between $1,000 and $3,000 dollars in the US. Be fully aware and ask questions! Great Surgical Center with highly recognized. Medical staff, nurses, Surgical Technologists and other Perioperative staff. The healthcare workers are attentive to detail, friendly and compassionate. The day after surgery I received a telephone call from them inquiring about my status or any needs I might had. For me is quiet a drive from the Valley and unless you valet your car, parking is precarious. However these are minimal inconveniences compared with the care received. What a racket. This health care provider is full of scam artists. They tried billing my insurance $72,623 for a routine outpatient service! I was initially quoted by LA Colon - Dr. Gary Hoffman - that the all in cost for the surgery would be "less than $600 out of pocket". There were no complications or extra services rendered during the procedure. I was forced by LA Colon to reach out to each "service provider" to receive quotes for the total cost. Side note, the fact that my insurance and I would be giving LA Colon thousands of dollars for this procedure and they couldn't even spend 5 minutes putting together a formal "all-in" quote is insane and a huge red flag. I should have left their office immediately. When I contacted La Peer, they told me their service fee was "$340.20". I made this payment at the surgery center the day of my procedure. I was then billed a further $68 by their pharmacy when I left, for painkillers - again was not included in all the quotes I had received. A month later, I received another bill for $170 for unknown costs. Literally, the invoice just said "Balance Due - $170.00". I went ahead and paid it figuring it was a remaining balance. I should have been more diligent, but healthcare is trash in America and I wasn't shocked to receive a surprise bill. THEN another month later I received AN ADDITIONAL $102.80 bill from La Peer - W.T.F. This doesn't include the other $40, $40, $167.65, $161.00 I've paid out to LA Colon. What was supposed to be a "less than $600" outpatient procedure has cost me $987, plus a $102.80 outstanding collections notice. Find another provider for your procedure! There are literally hundreds in LA County, don't let yourself be taken advantage of. La Peer, LA Colon, and Dr. Gary Hoffman are crooks! read more

I went to see Dr. Jamshidinia of La Peer surgery center for a bunion repair. All those years of wearing high heels had gotten to me, and I could no longer where high heels to go out. I had consulted with ?Dr. J? and asked how many of these procedures he had performed and the success rate. Both of those numbers were high enough for me to feel confident in having him handle my surgery. I am back to walking normal and feel great. read more

I had a wonderful experience at La Peer last month. I came to this out patient surgery center for my colonoscopy with Dr Nowain. This is the second time I have had a colonoscopy and my experience at La Peer was so much better than the first time I had the procedure done. From the moment I walked in the front door the front desk staff was very caring and helpful. They made sure I filled out all of the correct paperwork. Even when my wife was was sitting in the waiting room while I was having procedure, they gave her an iPad to use and gave her a dining guide for nearby restaurants so she could go eat lunch. The nurse who cared for me before the procedure was so sweet and helpful. The anesthesiologist was great. I went under very peacefully and when I woke up from the procedure it felt like I had just had the best nap ever. Finally, Dr Nowain was incredible. He recommended I have a Third Eye Colonoscopy (instead of the traditional colonoscopy) because it provides him with 2 view of the colon. He recommended the Third Eye for me because I do have a family history of colon cancer and this new technology increases the likelihood of detecting and removing colon polyps. I have never had such a great and easy experience at a surgery center before. I will be recommending La Peer to any friends and family in need of out patient surgery. read more
