We shared a cup of chips and guac whilst waiting for our dishes. The guac was zesty and there was plenty of it but I would've preferred it to have been chunkier and less mushy. The veggie tamale cake bites with spinach and butternut squash was a nice dish but a little sweet for my taste. I also had the halloumi and pineapple burrito, which I wasn't hugely keen on - again the sweetness put me off. However, I tried some of my friend's sweetcorn fritters with green tomatillo dipping sauce and wow they were delicious so who knows, it's possible that with different choices I might have enjoyed it more!

Dimly lit and a little red (british mexican restaurants appearing slightly like brothels stereotype: check!) Cocktails are great, but unsurprisingly heavy on the crushed ice, but I wasn't drinking post op, and went for some awesome fruit juice, which I won;t lie, was also ice packed too! It's nice to be able to pick and chose small portions to try more. My Gringa quesadilla was great, and so were my prawn tacos (when we'd stopped giggling at it being such an excellent euphemism)

This place only opened four years ago but has come on in leaps and bounds and now attracts a very trendy and upmarket crowd who are not afraid to splash their cash. The food and drinks here are exceptional and there is a variety of Mexican beer on offer which I have grown to love as it certainly washes down a hearty meal well. The food is mouth watering and there is so much to choose from that it may take some time for you and your fellow diners to decide. This month they even made a graduate menu to entice finishing students inside and this really sums up the friendliness and care that embodies Savina. Take a look at the website and you will see photos of people enjoying themselves in sombreros and generally having a great time. Savina is fun and classy and most of all tasty.

And I'm willing to wade in with my tuppence worth of opinion. This is a really excellent Mexican restaurant, and one I'd visit so much more if I could. It's a dimly lit, atmospheric and architectural delight, decorated very prettily and speckled by lovely relaxing background music. It's definitely well laid out. The staff are very accommodating, bending over backwards for requests and treating you with that perfect compromise of friendliness and respect. Plus they have a great sense of humour, or at least the ones we dealt with did. The food's darn good too, mostly an unusual twist on most traditional Mexican dishes and a very sophisticated one at that. A noteworthy point for example is that the chilli, instead of being made with mince, is made with quality steak. Without a doubt one to keep in mind for those meat lovers! There are tons of veggie and fish options too so there's certainly something for everyone. The fajitas in all their forms are really excellent and the drinks, wine and cocktail menus have an equally Mexican flair. Plus the prices are reasonable for central Liverpool, so you won't be out of pocket after indulging here. One of the best Mexicans I've stumbled across for a good while. Do give it a go!

If there's one thing I love, it's a bloody good Mexican meal. Burritos, enchiladas, fajitas,…read morenacho, chilli, quesadillas - you name it, I love it. So imagine my delight when I discovered this lovely slice of Mexico on Waterloo's South Road. As with many restaurants of its ilk, La Parrilla lays the whole Mexican theme on pretty thick, with various decorations and ornaments adorning the place. The décor of the restaurant only serves as a distraction for the diner until your food arrives, which is absolutely delicious no matter what you have. I have managed to sample many of the different types of dishes available (can you tell I've been here more than once?) and would highly recommend the quesadillas as I am a big fan of their gooey, cheesy texture and tasty fillings. They also do a good few different cocktails which are well worth a try when getting into the Mexican spirit, with a selection big enough for even the manliest man to find something without a pink umbrella sticking out of it.

All of the meat, fish etc is top quality and everything tastes delicious from the little dish of marinated olives you are given on arrival to the steak and fajitas. I loved the chili chicken starter. The restaurant is INSANELY clean - you can see into the kitchen and it's spotless as are the restrooms. The staff are super friendly and helpful. It would be a great restaurant for dinner with the family, a hot date or a night out with friends.
