This is a easy choice. Stupendously delicious with generous amounts of sauces in each dish. When you are wondering, where is the olive oil or butter for the bread you realize you don't need it because you'll want to dip your bread in the sauces. Just a wonderful harmony of flavors, whether red meats or seafood. What's more impressive to me is they clear your plates quite a few times when you share some entrées and appetizers. If you're lucky to come on a crystal clear day, you'll maybe sit in the patio area under the umbrellas. Order a bottle of their La Orza house white for dirt cheap and your meal is complete. Certain high seasons, you may not be able to get a reservation, however, all the local guides know the owner so ask your tour guide how you can maybe get in. read more

Great food, but badgered for alcohol 7 times in one hour. The food and ambiance were good, but the service was unacceptable. I was dining with my teenage son, and despite ordering a full three-course meal (two appetizers, two mains, and two desserts), our server treated us like we were an inconvenience because we weren't ordering cocktails. There seems to be an unspoken rule here: if you don't order at least two alcoholic drinks per person, you aren't welcome. Our waiter was smug and self-important, pressuring me to order alcohol seven (7) separate times over the course of an hour. When I politely declined, he actually scoffed and told me, "In Spain, everyone has wine with their meals." We had already ordered two Cokes and two bottles of sparkling water, yet it felt like our "value" as guests was tied solely to a liquor quota. It is incredibly off-putting to be lectured on cultural drinking habits while trying to enjoy a meal with my son. If you're looking for hospitality rather than a high-pressure sales pitch, look elsewhere. read more

One of the best dining experiences I have had in several trips to Spain. The meal, by itself, was worth the short train ride from Madrid. The crowd seemed generally local but I was pleasantly surprised that our waiter spoke near perfect English. I enjoyed the duck and it was probably the best preparation of duck I've ever had. The owner, Leo, visited our table and clearly has tremendous passion for his guests and the food. A memorable dining experience. Happy we talked ourselves into visiting this restaurant After a day of hiking up and down the roads of Old Town we were ready for dinner. Located just behind the Sercotel Pintor El Greco hotel where we were staying is Meson La Orza. We had initially decided against this restaurant, thinking it was too expensive. Now faced with another climb we reconsidered, and glad we did. Turned out it wasn't terribly expensive, the two of us got out for about 70 euros, and it was excellent. Shiny dishes and sparkling glassware added to the upscale appearance, and service was impeccable. We began our meal with a Castillian-style bread soup, a new experience for me. They brought a bowl with very finely diced ham, egg, and garlic, and poured in a brown liquid. There was no bread, except apparently the brown liquid included pureed bread. It was good, but I didn't notice any bread flavor. I suppose not having any bread texture confused my palate. I have since had a potato soup at another restaurant, same deal, and struggled to find any potato flavor in the liquid. My palate needs training. On to my main course, Beef Tenderloin, salty waffles, parmesan gnocchi and chimichurri. Nicely plated, the beef was outstanding with the chimichurri. I thought the gnocchi would be better described as pesto gnocchi. On to dessert, and my wife and I shared a Marzipan cake. Wow. You can see in the photo there was more to it than just cake, and it was delicious. I'm glad our tired legs led us the short walk to Ozra. read more

La Orza is clearly an upscale, fancy-ish restaurant in Toledo. If you're looking to splurge a little, this is definitely the place. We came here for lunch after a day of trekking around the city. We were on the earlier side, and were seated on the patio outside. Everything we ordered was presented beautifully and looked delicious. There were maybe 2 dishes out of the 6 we ordered that were a bit lackluster. In particular, the roasted pork belly was a bit gamey. Overall, the service was exceptional, all the dishes looked incredible, and most of the food tasted great as well. read more

Eric R. and I had a phenomenal lunch here at La Orza. We were starving after getting stuck in the once-a-year processional for the Corpus Christi holiday that we did not know was on the one day we were there. It took us three hours to walk a 12 minute walk to see the sites we wanted, and since this was a public holiday, our sites closed early so we rushed through them. We were seeking a meal around 3:30 PM (typical in Spain for lunch) and La Orza was packed. I had read briefly about it in wikitravel and it had a beautiful ambiance, inside and on the patio. The bathrooms had copper sinks! The manager was very friendly and described the menu to us in English. I ordered the monkfish (my first taste of it besides the liver!), served over rice. Eric R. had the local partridge on a mushroom rice which was soooo flavorful. The partridge was similar to quail. The meal was divine and we also had a delicious house white wine to accompany the meal. At the end of the meal, the server gave us shot glasses of "something non-alcoholic" on the house. After drinking it, it tasted nutty (like non-alcoholic amaretto). I asked the manager what it was, and he told us acorn juice! Maybe this is why people like the jamon that feed on acorns, but that I will never know. If you are a better planner and visit this city when it is not a holiday, make a reservation. read more

Hard to rate as we sat, ordered the vegetarian option and was told they were all out (but how...? We were the 1st seating of the night). Thus, we left after the could not provide any options for me other than a salad. I expected more flexibility from a Michelin star chef and restaurant. Perhaps this is on me, I could have. & maybe should have asked to speak to the chef to see if I could be accommodated. However, I failed to do so. I felt watched and exposed at this point (why were the lights so bright...were we eating or performing surgery? Maybe inspecting corners for dirt post COVID is a thing now. Beautiful off the beaten path feel of a restaurant although really close to sites you want to see. We came for a late lunch and shared a delicious plate of Cheeses with 2 different types of Iberico Ham. The Meat and Cheese Croquettes with Fried banana were also outstanding. The staff could not have been nicer - they topped off the experience with a complimentary Acorn Digestifs. With a bottle of beer & water the bill came to around $50 US. While in Toledo we ate here twice, and both were the best meals we had in Spain! In the heart of Toledo's Jewish Quarter, it's a stone's throw from the El Greco Museum and many other attractions. However, this place doesn't feel the least bit touristy, serving great local cuisine in an inviting unpretentious setting. You're served with complimentary warm fresh bread and crostinis to keep you busy until your orders arrive. Amongst various dishes we ordered amazing fish croquettes, and a beautiful plate of seared vegetables. We got mains of roast venison and tuna, both with the unusual flavour combinations and perfect seasoning. The service is impeccable and the maître d' is incredibly friendly and very professional. This is extremely high quality food, but with sizeable healthy portions. You probably don't need to get a starter and main; we were famished and got six dishes between four of us. If I return to Toledo I won't hesitate to visit Mesón La Orza again. read more

Defdinitly the nicest restaurant in Toledo, we stayed one night in town and made reservations well in advance for dinner via email knowing the limited evening options. Glad we did as they were fully. One deduction because we were not presented a wine list until AFTER we placed our food order, and the appetizers arrived before they even took the wine order. That said, we shared the artichoke appetizer that was creative and perfectly cooked. My partner had the lamb and I had the venison, both were very flavorful with unique presentations. We ordered two deserts that were fantastic! Easy to navigate wine list, very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend if you stay overnight. read more

The concierge at my hotel in Madrid recommended it and actually made a reservation which is a smart thing to do in Toledo the restaurants are small. I had a delicious garlic almond, mango asparagus soup that is chilled and so good. The presentation is neat, you are served this beautiful presentations of the vegetables wrapped in fruit then the creamy soup is poured over. The venison tataki with creamy almond cream truffle with sauce was so perfectly plates and tender. I've never had better venison than this. Try it. For dessert the mandarin lime sorbet and an espresso is great and then the waiter brought a complementary mazipan liquor shot with a wafer. Terrific. You won't regret it. read more

Ordered the cured pork cappuccino with I've cream cheese, it's great. The tomatoes salad with Tuna is also tasty, tried the salmon salad, it's very interesting and. refreshing. Mushroom with truffle is good, the amount of truffle is not overwhelmed and with the eggs all mixed together, it's perfect. It tastes so good that I reordered. Tried the deer and the bull tail, I like the deer meat better, they cooked it rare and tender. However, the bull tail is slightly on the sweet side. My top choices are the mushroom with truffle and the pork cappuccino. read more

We went to this restaurant after reading the yelp recommendations. Bottom line impression: excellent setting and service, pretty good food at somewhat high prices (€100 for our family of 4-2 kids ages 7 and 12). First: the restaurant is quaint and well appointed. It has a nice, relaxed and comfortable feel. The wait staff is well managed and supervised, friendly and knowledgeable. Second: the wine by the glass that was recommended was superb and I consider us to be very picky wine drinkers. For the food, we ordered 4 dishes that we all shared. 1. a grilled vegetable tapa which was tasty but overcooked. I am not a fan of soggy veggies. 2. Filet with mustard sauce. We thought this meant filet minion but it is rib eye. It was good quality but a little under seasoned. 3. Sucking pig: this dish was very tough. It was a struggle to cut with a knife. The flavor was ok but a little dry. 4. Monk fish: the fish was tender and tasty. The best dish we got. Portions are generous. We would have been fine with one fewer entree. Prices: When I saw $$, I didn't think this would be as expensive as it was. In Madrid and Barcelona, we were paying far less at the same $$ rating. Tapas are €12 to €18 and entrees are €18 and above. Sunny afternoon, beautiful outdoor setting and spectacular food! Double thumbs up to Toledo's best restaurant (by far).... To start with, I ordered Gazpacho - a refreshing Spanish tomato soup with garden fresh toppings. The soup was served along with complementary warm fresh bread and crostinis with tomato dressing - what a perfect beginning to an awesome meal! The choice for vegetarian main course is limited. So I would recommend to skip the main course (if you are a vegetarian) and try one of their fantastic dessert. I ended my meal with a superlative Marzipan with chocolate truffle - a perfect concussion of distinct rich flavors that just left me craving for more. My experience at Mesón La Orza ended with a complimentary pousse-café/ Digestifs - Bellotas/Acorn (which was just the icing on the cake). Do not miss this fantastic place on you trip to Toledo. We came here after reading some positive reviews about this restaurant, and was quite disappointed. We booked a table here, and while we were received warmly by the staff when we arrived, everything else went downhill from there. Food was okay, not amazing. We didn't received much attention throughout our dinner, although we did notice that other tables were getting more attention than we do. I'm not sure if it's because we were seated in a corner, or we did not order enough? We got 2 entrees and 1 glass of wine. I was also surprised to see that there's an additional 10% tax on top of the total bill, especially since in Spain, prices on menu are usually inclusive of tax. Bread was an additional cost too, and we did not know that until we saw the check. Personally, I find that rather sneaky and that really adds a negative impression I have of this place. Definitely a tourist trap place, and one of the most expensive places we have been to in Toledo (but not one of the best, sadly). Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Excellent food, only surpassed by extraordinary service. Waiter was exceptionally responsive, we got free desserts and creme de marzipan in addition to our meals. With only 2 days in Toledo, we wanted to make it count, so after reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided to eat here on our first night (we were also looking for something else besides tapas). WOW! We were not disappointed. By far, the best food we've had to date on our trip, and we've been travelling around Spain for almost 2 weeks now. The service was excellent, just the right amount of attention, and the wine and food fantastic - we tried the tuna and roast pig. The desserts were heavenly. Just the right amount of everything.
