Tamales hands down some of the best I've ever had. Definitely will be my Tamale spot in PDX!

Nice little market of Mexican goods on Cully with a very friendly owner. I go as he offers home made Manteca de Puerca.

If you're like me, you've driven past the little market at Cully and Wygant without a second glance, assuming it's the kind of place that sells lottery tickets, international phone cards, and beer.

Noodles, condiments, sauces, coconut milk, candies, hot sauce - so many brands and various size portions. Was in my way to my favorite Asian grocery store, Hong Phat Food Center, to buy Chinese cabbage, chili paste and coconut milk when I noticed this market which I've probably passed hundreds of times! It's across the street from Safeway on NE Sandy. There are various sized cooking vessels, bowls, woks and tea pots in the front of the store. The rest are grocery items including fresh meat and veggies in the back. Since I'm making wontons, I picked up ground pork which was only $2.49 a pound, half the price of an American grocery store. Cabbage, onions and scallions were also half price. The owner was super friendly. Store was clean, aisles well stocked and organized. Loved walking up and down every section marveling over items that are so foreign to my palette. I found the green Chinese slim tea I sometimes drink when I'm having digestive issues. It was half the price I pay on Amazon. Whenever I need to pick up Asian condiments or pack of mung bean noodles for meal prep, this will be my go-to place. I will go to Hung Phat when I'm stocking up or need prepared food ps and bakery items.

I've been a longtime, low-key regular at Hồng Phát for all things Vietnamese and random grocery needs, but this time I found my reason to shout about it. After what felt like a lifetime of hovering and debating, I finally went for it and picked up their Pâté Gan (liver spread) from the refrigerated deli case near the front. Let me tell you: SPREADABLE GOLD! 8oz hand-filled container for $5.95 and worth every single bite. Listed ingredients? Pork Liver, Pork Fat, Pork. (We all know there's more in there, but I'm not here to investigate, just to celebrate.) As a pâté-obsessed Bánh Mì DIY, this blew me away. -Texture: Silky and spreadable perfection. -Taste: Deep, rich, and satisfying without being overly gamey. - Smell: Divine, for those who love a good pâté, you know what I mean. This is officially my new go-to pâté source, alongside my other favorites scattered along 82nd Ave. TIP: Since it's hand-packed from a larger batch, look for condensation inside the container. It can give you a clue about how fresh it is and how long you've got before the quality dips. Don't just rely on the "Sell By" label. Honestly, I still can't believe I slept on this for so long with my skepticism. If you're even mildly into pâté or making your own Bánh Mì at home: run, don't walk.

I didn't get to purchase any of the hot foods from take out counter located in back of Lily Market. During this recent November trip, I finally got some hot foods to go. Finally got to try it and loved it, wish they open Mondays and Tuesdays, as we visited on a Saturday. I wanted to come back to grab some extra sausage to bring to back home, before our flight. Lily Market is grocery store with so many Asian offer a wide range of products from produce, perishables, snacks, plants, frozen foods. If I lived here I would be shopping here so often. I was so happy to see Mama brand in the Flat noodle pack. I saw a reel on noods and so I bought the last of the 8 bags on the shelf. The prices are good and no tax, is perfect for me to stock up on Asian goods but we were short on time, I grab what I needed quick. The staff/owner that helped me was very friendly! Let's talk about the hot foods, I got 3 item plate ( $11.95) it is also by weight, 2 side of sausage ( $2.50 per) sticky rice, and pandan desserts. We ate at the food at the park and truly enjoyed the delicious hot meals. Wow.,the sausage was full of flavor! Everything we had was so good! There's a table in shop if you want to enjoy your meal there. All in all, I love Asian grocery stores & what a bonus with the hot deli, talk about kill 2 birds w/one stone. Lily Market will be on must visit, when at Portland.

They have a cozy indoor seating area with a classic bar backdrop. Or if you feel like sitting outside but being shielded from any wind, rain or coolness - there is a cute picnic table area out on a tree shaded side street. We had an out of town guest and we did not want to fuss with cooking at home nor sitting in a stuffy noisy (or super quiet) eatery! Sitting out side before sunset, was the perfect setting on our Monday night. Our waitress was super interactive and very genuine with her assessments of the dining & alcoholic beverage choices. For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. I was starving so we ordered the LARGE Radicchio salad and it was Big & filling. A side of fresh Broccolini complimented our individual entrees. My hearty Italian dish was the Ricotta Cavatelli. I even had enough for lunch the next day! My two lovely lady dinner mates had meals of Mafaldine pasta and Spinach Fettuccine (with Grana Padano cheese added). We gladly finished our comfortable dining experience with a shared and inhaled Tiramisu dessert. If you have time, spend a few minutes browsing the Italian Market refrigerated food and alcoholic options. Plus the well stocked and reasonably priced Italy sourced dry goods are worth a view

I've been a customer at both the Montelupo & Focacceria in Sellwood spots for quite some time now…read more  I came into Montelupo recently with my wife to place a takeaway order. The woman with dark brunette hair at the register (who processed the transaction below) was extraordinarily rude & impatient with us. Candidly, I've never been treated so poorly by someone taking my money before.  We were at the register for a mere 90 seconds, and it was nowhere near as busy as it has been in prior times that we've patroned the establishment. We also shared with this woman that we'd only order 4 dishes to go - and by the time we were ordering the final dish, she literally asked us to step out of line & come back later to order once we'd figured things out. I've never had a cashier ask that before. We proceeded to put in our final order and complete the transaction. I made a conscious decision not to include a tip due to the way she was treating us, and when she saw that I hadn't included the tip she gave me a dirty look, turned around and said nothing to us. Not even a "thank you" or "your order will be ready in X minutes". I had to check myself with my wife to see if I was misinterpreting the circumstances, and she responded "no, that was horrible service." When I came back 20 minutes later, this same woman was at the counter and refused to acknowledge me. I was standing 5 feet away, and there was not a single other customer in the market area. She just stood there looking elsewhere & avoiding eye contact. I finally saw the bartender come over and ask me if the order was mine - he picked up my order that had been sitting there and handed it to me.  I've never had an experience like this at Montelupo nor the Focacceria before. To be honest, I've never had an experience like that anywhere. It's hard for me as a paying customer to feel welcome in an establishment where the mentality of the cashier is adversarial toward patrons. It's very clear to me that the customer service at Montelupo has a long way to go to catch up to the quality of the food being served there. When I shared this feedback directly with Montelupo's management team, they never even responded. Clearly, they don't care about their patrons. I sadly won't be returning to Montelupo again as a customer - I value the money I work hard to earn, and want to spend it at businesses that value me as a customer.
