This little hidden gem is tucked away from the madness of downtown, at the bottom of a dead end street on the other side of the river. Between the fresh produce from Cali, the homemade 'Pan & Pan Dulce' aka bread and sweet breads, the snack bar and the fried chicharrones... I've found my new favorite spot in town. I've been there a few times now and I just want to keep going back!! First time I went I got some Pan Dulce, a dozen pork tamales, 6 Quesabirria tacos w/ consume and elote from the snack bar. I went home and between my son and I, we ate all the tacos and Elote. Then I, over the coarse of a week, ate all the tamales for lunch! And the sweet breads are my favorite midnight snack. The pork tamales were so fricken good! They were flavorful, even a bit Smokey and a good size! The Pan Dulce is amazing. I fricken love that bread and it's always fresh! There are no words for how good those Quesabirria tacos are. Ask for consume to dip them!!!! Best tacos in town hands down. The corn was awesome and I put hot sauce on it! The second time I went I found chicharrones con carne and just HAD to get some. Now usually I just eat it the way it is as a snack, but the lady at the register told me I should do it en salsa! So I made homemade salsa roja and cooked them in it. It was out of this world!!! I want to make it that way all the time now! Passing through town to meet up with some family and wanted some yummy Mexican food because we can't find any in Utah. This place did not disappoint!! I don't have any pictures to post because we annihilated the food!! It was a little hard to find where to order, as this is a little grocery store as well with amazing produce and authentic pastries. We want to go back and get more and we haven't even finished! The Quesabirria tacos... the best. The consume was so tasty, and the beef was so tender!! The pupusa was crunchy on the edges, yet soft and cheesy in the center as well! The staff was super sweet and helpful, service was quick and brought right out. This may be a tortilleria though I saw no sign of machinery. They are, however a vendor of produce, of beer and liquor, of Mexican pastries and candies, of general groceries. The produce is inexpensive and if that's not good enough, they have bags of over-ripe produce for a buck each. We got lots of mangos and avocados in these bags, most of which were in good condition, maybe a bit ripe. Just wolf them right down! Lots of Mexican beer. Candied sweet potatoes. Vegetables I've never seen - for instance a tasty kind of hybrid purslane at 50 cents a bundle. I wish they had this place near where I live. It is hard to find. We were crossing the bridge and noticed a sign for produce down below on the side of the bridge. We turned around after crossing and came back. It's at the end of a dead-end road. On the weekends they have food prepared and raspados (snow cones). Most everything I have gotten there is really good and affordable too.

This place is a hit or miss on the prepared food, but always exceptional on the produce, including prices and unique goods.

I used to love going here for all my veggies. But lately the veggies are going bad within the two days of bringing them home. I think they are not buying as good of produce as they used to. Sucks!!! read more
