I have loved every moment in Prague, it's been the experience of a lifetime, but other than the perfectness of the breading here nothing has stood out as superb. That said my wife and I walked by this place but the smell called us. We looked at other places but nothing called us like the delicious Garlic smell from here. It was the best meal I've had here. In Vienna on Business, I happened to be staying at a hotel near this super cute Italian restaurant. Lots of outdoor seating in the cobblestones rose adjacent to the Cantinetta. I had the Spagetti Fruti Di Mare which was good but I took off a star because it had too many "imitation crab" pieces. But plentiful mussels, clams and shrimp. Decent food for decent price and very popular with locals. All around me I could hear Italian, German, English and Arabic. Lovely setting! read more

the pizzaria la norma is a tiny little restaurant close to stephansplatz. prices are average for this area. I only tasted the pizza which was quiet good, but kind of oily. what i really liked is the onl funishing and the rustic ambience. the walls are all over with paintings reminding on old italian style, which is pretty cool! the service is very nice and not intrusive. read more

We came here for a late lunch at 4:00pm based on a Rick Steve's recommendation. This Italian restaurant is located near the Cathedral on Singerstrasse. Outside of Italy, this is the next best thing. We live in Los Angeles and haven't found any Italian restaurant that compares to this!! That's how good this place is. We were warmly greeted and served promptly by Hany. Rick Steves says that Paco is the owner, bur it looks like the 3 brothers run this place. We asked for recommendations and told him that we were open to ANYTHING. He STRONGLY recommended the Filetto La Norma and the Pollo alla toscano. The Filetto La Norma is listed as Rindslungenbraten with mushroom sauce & rice. The not so heavy cream based sauce was out of this world. Maybe Marsala, maybe a fusion of Viennese & Italian. Very tasty.The steak was perfectly prepared at medium. The Pollo alla toscano was prepared in au gratin dish, oozing with Gorgonzola, fresh mushrooms & spinach and swimming in a decadent tomato cream sauce. My daughters are a little more conservative and got Tortellini Spinaci and the Margherita pizza. The tortellini was excellent. The pizza was ok. Really yummy!! So: an Italian joint run by Egyptians in the very heart of Alte Wien. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, no? Miraculously, it's not; if anything, it's a little blessing in the midst of a bustling, touristy area. La Norma serves remarkably fresh, tasty, thoughtful food, as traditional and simple as if Mamma herself were in the kitchen. The cosy interior is dominated by the colorful murals that cover every surface; the outdoor tables benefit from the lovely little square on which the restaurant sits. Only a block or so from the busy, hideously overpriced Kartnerstrasse, La Norma goes on its own way serenely, serving out generous portions at good prices, topped by friendly, sympa service. What better way to while away a late summer evening than to have a glass or two of Montepulciano d'Abbruzi, a hearty plate of prosciutto over perfect melon, and a little tagliatelli that would not be out of place in the center of Rome? read more

My wife and I recently spent time in Prague and walked past this restaurant on the way to St Stephens church. I am a pizza junky and was in the mood for pizza after eating authentic Czech Goulash multiple times during our trip. All I can say is 'WOW'! Absolutely the best pizza (Diavolo) in my life. It was so good, we came back the following night for more pizza and it was just as amazing. The owner and staff were extremely friendly and gave us a shot of amaretto after our dinner on the 2nd evening. If we return to Prague in the future, we will definitely seek out this restaurant for one of our meals! read more

First the good news: the gnocchi a la piemontese was robust and flavorful, and a glass of the house montepulciano was likewise hearty, balanced, and generous in size. Now the not so good news: the salad greens were not at all fresh, the piped in music was cliché with some exceedingly poor selections, and the decor, which I usually don't care about much, was poorly designed and poorly executed. But the experience would have still merited 3 stars if I wasn't overcharged. No bill was presented. The amount was only spoken to me, and it only dawned on me as I was walking to my hotel that the price charged was roughly 20% above the menu's posted prices of the items I ordered. read more

Very ordinary Italian. The pizza tasted like your basic $7 pizza from the frozen foods section of your local supermarket. My pasta wasn't bad but it wasn't anything that blew me away. On the plus side, service is excellent and the selection of wines by the glass is quite solid. read more

I found La Norma by accident when I was walking around sans a map and a destination. I took a right turn into a beautifully-looking street on the right side of Stephansdom and before I knew it, I was looking at a tiny, quiet little square with a couple of tables standing in the middle. I decided to sit down when I saw that they served Prosecco Aperol for a couple of euros. La Norma also appealed to me because there weren't any tourists walking around and the people who occupied the tables looked like normal Viennese citizens (a 30-something couple with a cute toddler, a lone suite-clad business man and a middle aged man who appeared to be the owner or something along those lines). I sat down, took out my book, ordered my prosecco aperol and enjoyed the awesome atmosphere. It was quiet, calm, normal and I loved it. People passing by greeted the man who appeared to be the owner and the waiter was nice which I appreciated. I didn't go inside so I can't say anything about the interior but the exterior of La Norma looked very warm and inviting. After 10 minutes or so of my being there, the table next to mine got occupied by two 60-something ladies who ordered lasagna and a salad. I didn't have anything to eat but the dishes the ladies ordered looked really great, so maybe the food's worth a try as well. In general, I fell in love with La Norma and I hope I'll get to visit a second time during my next stay in Vienna! read more

Took the advice below and went in early to book a table. Very friendly owner gave us the small one in the window when we came back which was good but there were only two other couples in there all evening. Probably because the food isn't actually that good. The Antipasti was a mix of a few boring quite tasteless things (salami, dried tomato, artichoke, mozzarella) taken out of the fridge and put on top of some salad on a plate. The Pizza Diavolo was very bland and the base was undercooked. I asked for some chilli oil which at least spiced it up but all a but disappointing. My daughter had an average soup and the Gnocchi alla Gorgonzola which she said was quite good. The wine was OK and not expensive. Conclusion: nothing special and there are better Italians not far away. Wouldn't go again - unless everything else was full! read more

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Vienna. We ate at La Norma twice during our week long stay and enjoyed the food and the wonderful wait staff very much. The ambiance is great, small and intimate. The prices were quite reasonable, considering the great quality of the food. We ate indoors both times, but the outdoor patio seating was also very popular. Excellent authentic Italian food and ambiance is found at this lovely little cafe. A secret spot inside the inner city Vienna with only 9 tables inside and if weather permits, outdoor tables too. Make a booking as you walk by earlier in the day as it is close to the Franciscan Platz and church. Ask for a table next to the open window. We went after it rained and the air was cool as we watched people walking by....drink Gavi de Gavi wine, split a feta and rugula salad and pasta. Save room for profiteroles. First, I picked the restaurant just because of the charm factor with painted designs on the walls and cozy atmosphere. Since it is small, you will have plenty of attention if you want it- wine glass is not empty for long, and suggestions are given if you ask. I had the Melanzane alla fiorentina which was kind of an eggplant casserole in a tomato meat sauce with divine mozzarella broiled on top - it was delicious!!! Originally found this place on Yelp and then also saw mentioned in the Rick Steves guide book. About 10 tables inside, but we were able to get a table without a reservation at 20:00 on a Saturday. A good number of items on the menu to select from. I had the lasagna and my husband had the tortellini with tomato sauce, bacon, and mushrooms.
